Suggested January 2024 4 Reasons Why You Should Automate Employee Onboarding In 2023

Employee onboarding is acquainting a new hire with the company’s working and operational culture. But the process isn’t always smooth: A study done by Gallup found that 88% of employees believe their organization does not onboard well.

There are mainly 4 reasons behind companies onboarding poorly:

Inadequate interdepartmental cooperation,

Not briefing the new hire on company culture and policy,

Having a one-size-fits-all onboarding material for all new hires regardless of their new position,

And not training the new hires with the business’ existing applications.

An automated onboarding process can remedy these four shortcomings because it will systematize the way that new hires are integrated into the company. In this article, we will go in-depth into how and why.

1. Automated employee onboarding makes it easy to learn about the company

New hires have to absorb large chunks of information, very quickly, during their orientation. Therefore, it’s normal if they happen to forget some detail here and there.

For instance, they might not remember the amount of paid vacation days the company offers. Or might forget the first name of their department head.

It’s time-consuming, and antiquated, to refer back to knowledge sources such as an email or an employee pamphlet to get one’s answers. Besides, if the knowledge sources are not up-to-date, they might cause misunderstanding and spread false information.

Companies can leverage RPA-enabled conversational AI technology to create a chatbot that can act as an interactive knowledge source between the employee and the company. The benefit is that employees can ask their questions 24/7 and receive instant responses.

2. Automated employee onboarding streamlines interdepartmental cooperation

A new hire needs to understand everything that pertains to them, such as the:

Legal responsibilities they have,

Financial obligations they face,

Performance metrics they should meet, and more.

Moreover, it is claimed that a new hire to complete over 50 activities during their onboarding process, such as signing documents, setting up their desk, learning the company culture, and acknowledging their contractual responsibilities.

The particulars each come from a separate department. This means a thorough onboarding requires a simultaneous interdepartmental cooperation. For instance, if:

The company’s insurance doesn’t cover a specific health package, the HR department should make it clear.

The company has a more strict NDA policy than the industry average, the legal department should make it clear.

The company measures performance success by specific metrics, the management should make that clear.

Or if there are any specific company laws that a new comer might be unfamiliar with, the management should make it clear.

Failure to explain each policy clearly throughout the onboarding process could result in legal, financial, and operational complications both for the employee and the employer.

Onboarding software allows for creation of workflows that will be set off by trigger schedulers. For instance, anytime a new employee is added to Quickbooks, through API and RPA, the software can:

Extract their information,

Schedule onboarding meetings,

And provide them with log-in credentials to company portals.

3. Automated employee onboarding personalizes the onboarding experience

The onboarding process does not have to be bland and generic. The onboarding software can automatically gather the new hire’s information through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) from the ERP systems to curate a personalized onboarding experience.

For instance, if there’s a PowerPoint presentation, the intelligent RPA bots powered by OCR can read the employee’s name, extract it, and insert it onto the slides to convery a sense of familiarity.

Moreover, the presentation that will be shown to the hire will be specific to the department they will work in. So a new accountant, for instance, will sit through a presentation that is curated for the accounting department. This means manual mistakes, thankfully, get minimized and that there is no waste of resources.

Or if there are any emails that should be sent to get the new staff up-and-running, the content will be personalized (see Figure 1).

4. Automated employee onboarding familiarizes the employee with the business’ applications

An automated training system can be implemented wherein the usage of each application is  recorded through screen recording and shared with the employees, on demand. In addition, the chatbot can also be used in this stage: It can be scripted to copy-paste the most relevant answers to the employee’s technical questions by recognizing certain keywords.

Let’s imagine the new finance hire does not know where to find last month’s invoices. The user would ask the chatbot, “where can I find last month’s invoices?” The software would recognize the words “find” and “invoices,” and would then copy and paste the relevant answer from the database.

The benefit of automating the tutorials or the technical FAQs is that the new hire would receive their answer faster than they would have done if they asked one of the personnel. The other benefit would be that the other employees wouldn’t have to spend time dealing with such issues. Instead, they could be better spending their time elsewhere.

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Invest In Robotics In 2023

The greatest method to utilize both parties’ distinct strengths is to use robots as partners who work for people in human situations. Robotics in 2023 will be the biggest trend and in this growing market it’s best to invest for higher profits in the future so moving forward we’ll discuss the reason why you should invest in robotics.

1. Lower Operational Expenses

Robotics provides you the ability to cut both direct and overhead expenses, greatly improving your competitiveness. Take energy as an illustration. Robots can lower your energy costs since they don’t require a minimum level of lighting or heating. According to current estimates, there might be an 8% savings for every 1°C decrease in heating levels, and needless lighting can result in savings of up to 20%.

2. Enhance the Consistency and Quality of the Product

A consistently high-quality finish is possible with robots since they don’t experience the consequences of weariness, attention, or repeated and tiresome jobs. They are programmed to obey instructions, and their inherent precision and reproducibility guarantee a high-quality finish for every product created!

3. Boost the Productivity of Workers

Because employees are no longer required to labor in hot or possibly dangerous areas, the introduction of robots can enhance working conditions for personnel. They can also get useful programming skills and engage in more interesting employment.

4. Boost Manufacturing Output Rates

Robots can operate unsupervised day, night, and on the weekends, allowing for higher productivity levels to meet order deadlines. There is no downtime, illness, or focus lapses with a robotic solution. Programming robots to handle new goods offline also increases flexibility while assuring a speedier overall output.

5. Increase Flexibility in Product Manufacturing

The production line can benefit from flexibility thanks to robots. To get the most out of your investment, use robotics equipment for a range of items once the necessary procedures have been put into the robot controller.

6. Lower Material Waste and Boost Output

Robotics significantly improve product quality. The quantity of breakages and waste created as a result of subpar or irregular finishing decreases when more goods are completed at the first try to the standard expected by consumers. Greater yields result from more completed items being produced.

7. Boost Workplace Wellness and Security

Tasks presently performed by manual employees that are unpleasant, difficult, or dangerous to their health can be easily performed by robots. Robotics considerably reduces the risk of mishaps brought by coming into touch with machine tools or other potentially dangerous manufacturing equipment. Additionally, they aid in the eradication of conditions like repetitive strain injuries that are linked to rhythmic or demanding activities (RSI).

8. Reduce Staff Turnover and Hiring Challenges

The greatest levels of expertise and training are needed to achieve the high levels of accuracy that today’s industrial processes demand. Robots provide a perfect substitute for highly trained manual labor, who are getting harder and more costly to hire. Once they have been programmed, there are no expenses involved with hiring new employees or keeping existing ones trained. Additionally, robots provide more flexibility in terms of work schedules and the capacity to manage various production activities.

9. Lower Capital Expenses

Robots can cut down on waste and the cost of consumables. Businesses can forecast the manufacturing rate with confidence and guarantee a quick and effective service by getting items through the production process more quickly.

10. Make High-Value Production Areas More Compact

5 Reasons Why You Should Buy A Mechanical Keyboard

There you are, sitting on your office chair. Feeling comfortable and good about yourself. Let me tell you something. You are lost. You are a nobody. Why? Because you don’t have a mechanical keyboard in your life! Like some evangelical preacher, I have an idea I need to sell you. That is the glory of the mechanical keyboard. If you accept the mechanical keyboard into your life, you could be experiencing increased comfort, improved productivity, and glory! It will change the way you type forever! Don’t just ask me, there are plenty of fanatics that have forever converted from using cheap, rubber-dome keyboards to high-quality mechanicals. I have made a short list of five reasons why you should switch to a mechanical keyboard. I have faith that you will see the light.

The second reason why you need to switch to a mechanical keyboard is ergonomics. Mechanical keyboards generally have higher quality keycaps which are rounded to let your fingers rest on them more comfortably. Traditional laptop keys, with the exception of Lenovo’s, are flat. Flat keys are good for space-saving designs but you not only lose precision, but also comfort. I find flat keys uncomfortable to type on for long periods because I have to hit them “head on” in order not to make an error. Also, it is very easy to hit these keycaps on the corners which will cause your fingers to slip and mis-type. If you hit the corner of a keycap on a mechanical keyboard, you still have a good chance of registering the input. The longer “throw” of mechanical keyboards are also more comfortable for long typing sessions compared to the short engagement point of chicklet-style keyboards. For a long time, I thought the main attribute of an ergonomic keyboard is shape. After using the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard for 2-3 years and using my Leopold Tenkeyless for about 5 months, I realize that it’s not about the shape. The main reason mechanical keyboards are better is the key switches.

The third benefit is reduced strain. I realize this is closely related to comfort but I felt that this deserved its own section simply because of RSI(Repetitive Strain Injury). We use our computers for hours and some of us do not take RSI seriously. I take good care of my hands. And so should you. For most people, their hands are their livelihood. Hand health is very important if you are a musician, laborer, or athlete. One thing I’ve notice after spending a few months with my mechanical keyboard compared to keyboards of my past is finger pain. I use to get finger pain after prolonged typing on the rubber dome keys. They were all I knew so I didn’t question. It wasn’t until I was in the market for a better keyboard where I found out about mechanical key switches. Subsequently, it wasn’t until I was typing on them for hours until I realized my finger pain was mainly caused by the cheap rubber-dome keyboards. If you are on the computer for hours, or if your profession involves extensive amounts of typing, consider investing on a mechanical keyboard for this very reason. These key switches will reduce finger strain. Your hands will thank you.

The fourth benefit of using a mechanical keyboard is improved speed. A more precise, comfortable keyboard means improved typing speed. I was never a speed typist. Barely being able to type 25 WPM, after a few months of serious training, I can now type 60-70 WPM. Your mileage may vary but you will improve your speed. If not in burst typing, definitely in endurance typing. That’s typing long essays or reports. Wiki has the average typing speed rated at 33 WPM. If you are over this, you are doing very well.

The last and most important reason why you need a mechanical keyboard? They’re fun! That may sound silly to say but after getting one, I now enjoy typing. I like the sound of these Cherry MX browns. Some people like the blues. You can’t go wrong either way. They’re great to type on. Mechanical keyboards have their own unique personalities. From the simple Leopold Tenkeyless to the highly sought after HHKB Pro 2. Typing shouldn’t be a chore. Most people probably won’t be competing on typeracer for leisure, but mechanical keyboards will make you smile. It’s like buying a luxury car. Sure, you don’t NEED leather heated seat with power everything but if you can afford it, why not treat yourself? Especially a tool that you will spend years using. Once you punch the keys, you will see the light

4 Reasons Why Qr Codes Are Better Than Rfid

Like RFID in the late 90s, QR code technology has rapidly become very popular over the last decade. Everywhere we look, there are QR codes waiting anxiously to be scanned by our smartphones. This is not surprising considering the benefits that QR code technology has to offer.

Top reasons why QR codes are better than RFID

#1. Very obvious where a QR code is present

No one can ever complain that they were unable to find a QR code. The square code is distinct and easily visible on any surface that it is printed on. As a result, people do not have to be notified separately about the existence of a QR code; they can see it with their own eyes. However, the same is not true for RFID.

People have to be notified that a device is RFID capable or contains a transmitting RFID chip. This is the main reason why QR codes are preferred over RFIDs, except maybe for the espionage sector. If you are not James Bond, you are better off dealing with QR codes.

#2. Easier and cheaper to get QR codes out here

It is substantially cheaper and easier to get QR codes out to the public. For RFID, special RFID chips have to be deployed that transmit the relevant code. By contrast, all one has to do with a QR code is simply have it printed out on any surface that they wish. Even generating a QR code is a lot cheaper and is relatively hassle-free; one can generate a QR code on their smartphones.

This is a far cry from the amount of effort and the high cost that goes into generating RFID tags. For most small and medium-sized businesses, QR codes are a much more financially viable option.

#3. RFID requires specialized equipment

One of the things that make a real difference is the kind of equipment required by the end-user to decode information. For RFID, this usually involves an expensive piece of scanning equipment that is designed to do one job only – scan and decode RFID tags.

Comparatively, all one needs to scan a QR code is a smartphone. All smartphones can be equipped with a variety of QR code reading and generate apps, irrespective of which operating system they use.

This makes QR codes a lot more accessible and is the main reason why marketing campaigns make use of QR codes.

#4. QR codes are web oriented and more flexible

The sad truth about RFID is that you need a database for the technology to be really effective. Without a proper database, there is nothing for RFID scanners to decode, even if they have detected an RFID transmitting chip.

A custom QR code does not need access to any database in order to decode and provide the user with relevant information. QR codes are web-oriented and whatever information is not stored in the code itself is often provided via web links.

This makes QR codes a lot more flexible and practical than RFID.

The 4 reasons mentioned are why every business sector is trying to incorporate QR codes into every aspect of their business model and not just restrict it to marketing campaigns.

Why You Should Create A Child Theme In WordPress

WordPress powers around 23% of all websites, and many users often need to customise the themes they use in some way. Some people choose to edit the theme files directly, but that poses a major problem: once the theme is updated, all modifications will be lost. This is where creating a child theme comes in.

What are child themes?

Child themes are simply custom themes that inherit the functions and style of the parent theme. By creating a child theme, you can easily make modifications to the parent theme and keep those changes even when the parent theme is updated.

Now that you know what a child theme is, let’s look at a few ways you can create child themes and some of the best practices to follow.

Getting started

I will be using the Twenty Fifteen theme for this tutorial, but this will work for any theme you choose to use.

To create a child theme, simply navigate to your “wp-content/themes” directory and create a new folder for your child theme. You can name the folder “twentyfifteen-child” or something like that.

Next, you’ll need to create a “style.css” file within your new child theme folder and populate the file with the following content:

/* Theme Name: Twenty Fifteen Child Description: Twenty Fifteen Child Author: Ayo Isaiah Template: twentyfifteen Version: 1.0.0

You can replace the theme name, URI, description and author name with details relevant to your child theme. The “Template” part, however, must be named after the directory of your parent theme.

In this case, the directory name for our parent theme is “twentyfifteen,” so the Template will be “twentyfifteen.” If you are using a different theme, don’t forget to update the template accordingly, or your child theme will break.

The next step is to properly enqueue the parent theme’s stylesheets so that your child theme can inherit the styles of the parents, and you can build from there. Some websites recommend that you use @import to do this, but that is no longer the best practice and should be avoided.

The best way to enqueue the parent theme styles is to create a “functions.php” file in your child theme folder and add the following contents:

That’s it; your child theme is now ready to be activated.

Activating your child theme Creating a child theme with a plugin

Making Customisations

Now that our theme is activated, you can view your website to see how it looks. Assuming you did everything correctly, it will appear exactly the same as the parent theme. From this point on, you can add custom CSS to your child theme’s chúng tôi file to override styles in the parent theme. Note that the styles you declare in your child theme will take priority over those in your parent theme, and you can now update the parent without any fear of losing your work.

If you want to add a new function to your website, you’ll need to declare the functions in your child theme’s “function.php” file which will be loaded alongside the parent theme’s “function.php” file.

Other template files

Other PHP files must be copied to the child theme directory and modified there. This is because unlike the “functions.php” file, the parent theme’s equivalent file will be ignored in favour of your own, so make sure you place the original file in the same position within your child theme as with the parent theme so everything works smoothly.
