Suggested April 2024 401(K) Matching: What It Is And How It Works

401(k) employer matching is the process through which an employer matches an employee’s contributions to their 401(k) retirement account.

401(k) employer matches can improve employee morale and retention, attract better hires, and provide tax benefits to your company.

When offering 401(k) matching, you should set employer match contribution limits, review the IRS’ contribution limits and include vesting provisions.

This article is for business owners and employers interested in 401(k) matching.

Retirement plans are among the benefits employers most commonly offer their employees. Some employers take their retirement offerings a step further by offering 401(k) employer matching, which incentivizes employees to participate in the company’s 401(k) plan by adding money into their retirement savings based on how much they contribute each pay period.

If you’re thinking about opening retirement accounts for your team, want to improve your existing 401(k) options, or are in need of a new 401(k) plan for a startup, you should consider setting up a 401(k) employer match. Before doing so, though, you need a clear understanding of what 401(k) employer matching is, what the benefits are and how you should operate your matching program.

Editor’s note: Looking for the right employee retirement plan for your business? Fill out the below questionnaire to have our vendor partners contact you about your needs.

What is 401(k) employer matching?

401(k) employer matching is the process by which an employer contributes to an employee’s retirement account based on the employee’s contributions. Employers tend to set their 401(k) contribution limits based on the employee’s annual salary. In other words, an employer’s contribution rate may be at most a certain percentage of the employee’s salary. For example, an employer may be willing to match 50% of an employee’s contribution, up to 6% of their annual salary. So, if the employee contributed 6% to their 401(k) plan, the employer would contribute an additional 3% to the employee’s retirement savings.

Rarely, some employers instead set a contribution limit of a predetermined dollar amount that’s unrelated to the employee’s annual salary. In either case, these contributions are typically made per pay period and reflected on the employee’s paycheck.

Key Takeaway

401(k) employer matching is when an employer also contributes to an employee’s retirement account based on the amount the employee contributes.

What is the maximum amount you can contribute to 401(k) plans?

When determining how much money you should contribute to an employee’s retirement account, you should also consider the annual contribution limits that the IRS sets for both you and your employee. For 2023, the limit on elective salary deferrals – retirement plan contributions an employee voluntarily makes – is $20,500 for a traditional 401(k) plan. For a SIMPLE 401(k) plan, this limit is lowered to $14,000. Employees age 50 and older can contribute an additional $6,500 in elective salary deferrals to a traditional 401(k) plan or $3,000 to a SIMPLE 401(k) plan.

The total contribution limit a person can make to an employer-sponsored retirement account during a year is the sum of elective salary deferrals, employer contributions and allocations of forfeitures. For 2023, the total contribution limit is $61,000; for an employee with an annual income below $61,000, the limit is whatever their income is. Notably, if an employee has a retirement account with your company and a separate 401(k) they contribute to through side income they generate as an independent contractor, that separate account is unaffected by the limits on the employer-sponsored account.

How does 401(k) vesting relate to your 401(k) matching program?

As an employer, you can take ownership of part or all of your employer match contributions through a practice known as vesting. The legal definition of “vesting” is the right to ownership over a future payment, benefit or asset. When applied to retirement accounts, vesting describes the process of employees earning greater rights to access their employer contributions as time passes. That’s why the vesting schedule you set for your 401(k) employer match is a crucial component of your program.

If you’re considering borrowing from your 401(k), keep in mind you can only borrow against the vested amount of your employer match, not the gross total that includes the non-vested matching funds.

Your vesting schedule can incentivize employees to stay with your company longer because the longer your employees stay with you, the more their nonforfeitable rights to your employer contributions grow. After a set number of years, your employee can leave your company while taking all of your employer matching contributions with them, but employees who leave too soon may forfeit some or all of your employer matching contributions.

Alternatively, offering immediate vesting is an appealing benefit for employees too. They’ll have the comfort and security of knowing that should they leave your company for any reason at any time, their 401(k) funds are going with them regardless of how long they’ve been employed with you. This option is likely to make your business more attractive to new hires.

Key Takeaway

To figure out how your 401(k) matching process will work, determine your employer match contribution limits, familiarize yourself with the IRS-mandated 401(k) contribution limits and determine a vesting schedule that drives employee retention while minimizing your financial risk.

What Is Apple Watch Family Setup And How It Works?

At the ‘Time Flies’ event, Apple announced two new Apple Watch models – Series 6 and SE. One big highlight was a new feature in watchOS 7 called Family Setup. You can now set up the Apple Watch of family members from your iPhone. Here’s how to do this and all the other related information you need to know!

What is Apple Watch Family Setup?

With Family Setup, now a parent or guardian can set up Apple Watch for kids or older people who do not have their own iPhones. The parent can use their iPhone to manage the kids’ Apple Watch.

Once set up, kids can use the Apple Watch freely without needing an iPhone. They can go to school, sports practice, picnic, and anywhere without any concern, and the parent can know about the whereabouts.

To know more what’s in it for kids and parents, please take a look at the subsequent headings.

What Kids Can Do With Apple Watch Family Setup?

Make and receive FaceTime audio calls and standard phone calls.

Send and receive messages and emails.

Connect to other Apple Watch users with Walkie-Talkie.

Connect Apple Watch to AirPods or any Bluetooth earphones & speaker and use Apple Music.

Use Apple Cash Family: This lets parents load money to kids’ Apple Watch, which they can utilize where ever Apple Pay is accepted.

Have kid-oriented personalized Activity goals/Activity rings.

Use custom Memoji right from the Apple Watch using its Memoji app.

Use the health and safety features of Apple Watch (without needing an iPhone), like Emergency SOS, Maps, Siri, Alarms, and the App Store.

What Family Members Can Do with their Apple Watch in Family Setup?

Receive Emergency SOS Notification

If the parents or guardians are set as emergency contacts (which they should be), they’ll be notified in emergencies. Kids can look at their Medical ID for relevant information. Plus, the guardian can also view the health and activity of their family members using the iPhone’s Health app.

Set Schooltime Schedule

During School-time, the kid’s Apple Watch shows a yellow circle on the watch face. This helps the teachers in the classroom (or parent tutoring at home) easily recognize the apps’ whose access is restricted, plus Do Not Disturb can be enabled on the kid’s Apple Watch.

Apple Cash Family

This lets the parents load money to kids watch via Apple Pay and choose to receive notifications when they spend it. The parent can even see the kid’s purchases in the Wallet app on the iPhone. This is a fine example of training the young generation for the coming cashless future!

Other Features

Parents can allow certain contacts, and kids will be able to communicate only with these approved persons.

Set Content Restrictions and Ask to Buy: This lets the parents manage which category of apps are available for download on kid’s Apple Watch. Ask to Buy sends the parent an approval notification when the kid tries to purchase an app or make an in-app purchase.

Share the kid’s location using the Find People app on the Apple Watch. Parents can also receive location notifications, such as when the kids reach their school or basketball practice.

How to Set up an Apple Watch for a Family Member

Before You Begin:

Make sure the watch is running watchOS 7, and the iPhone is running iOS 14.

Turn ON Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the iPhone.

Erase the Apple Watch if it isn’t new.

Ensure you have an Apple ID for you (parent or guardian) and one for the kid or older person whose watch you are setting.

Family Sharing must be set up.

Wear the Apple Watch and switch it ON by pressing and holding the Side button.

Bring the watch near the iPhone. Wait for a moment, and you should see “Use your iPhone to set up this Apple Watch” on the iPhone screen. Tap on Continue. After this, tap on Set Up for a Family Member → Continue. In case you do not see this, open the Watch app on iPhone → All Watches from the top right → Pair New Watch.

Point the iPhone over the animation on the Apple Watch screen. You will see a message that says the Apple Watch is successfully paired.

Agree to the terms and conditions (if you do), select text size, and set a passcode for the Apple Watch.

Select a family member from the screen or tap on Add New Family Member. Now, enter the kid’s (or the family member’s) Apple ID and proceed. It is a good idea to tap on Turn on Ask to Buy. (more about it above)

Set up cellular (if the carrier supports) and Wi-Fi on the Apple Watch. After this, you may turn on other options like location, Siri, Apple Cash Family, Health data, etc. You can also set up Schooltime and shared contacts. Once you are done, tap on OK. Now, the kid can start using the Apple Watch.

Family Setup Compatible Apple Watch and iPhone

Family Setup is available on cellular models of Apple Watch Series 4 and later running watchOS 7. You can pair the watch with iPhone 6s and later running iOS 14.

Note: Apple says that ‘a cellular plan isn’t required to set up an Apple Watch for a family member, but is necessary for some features.’

Regions and Carriers That Support Family Setup

At launch, 18 carriers in 12 countries and regions support Family Setup. This is a carrier support-oriented feature (separate phone number, data plan, etc.) Thus, in the coming months, it will expand to other regions and carriers as well. For more information, like availability and pricing, contact your carrier.

Views On Family Setup

In my opinion, this is a great feature. Now, you can give the kid an affordable Apple Watch SE or your old Series 5, and they get the power to stay safely connected to people that matter.

One thing that I feel strange is that Apple discontinued Series 4 and 5 but kept Series 3. And unfortunately, Family Setup requires Series 4 and above. So, that’s a bummer!

Now, instead of giving a smartphone, it is convenient to have a powerful tiny computer on the child’s wrist (that they won’t misplace) when on baseball practice or friend’s house. Likewise, it lets keep track of older people more conveniently.

Overall I think it’s a smart move to get Apple Watch to more people in an affordable way!

What Is Double Vpn & How It Works? (Quickly Explained)

You probably don’t realize how visible and vulnerable you are on the web. We’ve written a series of articles to explain your first line of defense in Internet security: a VPN. We discuss what they are, why they’re effective, how they work, and the best VPN choices.

But what is a double VPN? Does it make you twice as safe? How does it work? Read on to find out.

How a VPN Works

When your device connects to a website, it sends packets of data containing your IP address and system information. Your IP address lets everyone know where on earth you’re located. Most websites keep a permanent log of that information.

It’s like you’re swimming with sharks. What do you do? A VPN is where you should start. VPNs use two techniques to protect you:

All of your traffic is encrypted from the time it leaves your computer. While your ISP and others can see you’re using a VPN, they can’t see the information you send or the websites you visit.

All of your traffic goes through a VPN server. The websites you visit see the IP address and location of the server, not your own.

How Double VPN Works

Double VPN adds a second layer of security for ultimate peace of mind. Not everyone needs this level of security and anonymity—a normal VPN connection offers enough privacy for daily internet use.

It chains two VPN connections together. Ideally, the two servers will be in different countries. Your data is encrypted twice: once on your computer and again on the second server.

What difference does this make to your privacy and security?

The second VPN server will never know your actual IP address. It only sees the IP address of the first server. Any websites you visit will only see the IP address and location of the second server. As a result, you’re far more anonymous.

Trackers will know that you’re connected to a VPN server and what country it’s in. BUT they’ll have no idea there’s a second server. As with a normal VPN connection, they won’t know which websites you access.

You’ll be able to access online content as if you’re located in that second country.

Double encryption is overkill. Even conventional VPN encryption takes billions of years to hack using brute force.

In short, double VPN makes it much harder to track what you’re up to. Users behind China’s firewall could connect to the United States via a country in Africa. Anyone watching their traffic in China would only see they’re connected to a server in Africa.

Why Not Use Double VPN All the Time?

That extra security sounds appealing. Why don’t we just use double VPN every time we go online? It all comes down to speed. Your traffic is encrypted twice instead of once, and it passes through two servers rather than one. The result? Network congestion.

How much slower is it? That’s likely to vary depending on the location of the servers. When I reviewed NordVPN, one of the few VPN services to offer double VPN, I ran some speed tests to find out.

I first tested my internet speed without using a VPN. It was 87.30 Mbps. I tested it again when connected to several of Nord’s servers using “single” VPN. The fastest speed I achieved was 70.22 Mbps, the slowest 3.91, and the average 22.75.

I then connected using double VPN and ran a final speed test. This time it was just 3.71 Mbps.

The extra overhead of double VPN drastically reduces your connection speed, but it also makes it extremely difficult for anyone to track or identify you.

So What Should You Do?

In most cases, a normal VPN is all you need to protect online privacy and security. Your traffic is encrypted and passes through a VPN server. That means no one can see the information you send, the websites you visit, your real identity, or your location.

That is, no one except the VPN service you use—so choose one that you trust. That’s an important decision, so we’ve written several articles to help you choose wisely:

But there are times you might choose increased security and anonymity over connection speed. Those who live in countries that censor the internet may want to avoid government surveillance.

Political activists would prefer that their online activities not be tracked by authorities. Journalists need to protect their sources. Perhaps you just feel strongly about security.

How do you get double VPN? You sign up for a VPN service that offers it. Two great options are NordVPN and Surfshark.

Squad is a teamwork-based tactical FPS that aims to provide players with an accurate combat experience. The game is set in a present-day warfare setting, so you won’t catch a glimpse of plasma guns or Gatling laser weapons.

What Squad manages to pull off is embossing a sense of virtual camaraderie between same-team players. If you’re expecting something along the lines of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter-Strike, or other FPS titles, you’re in for a disappointment.

The bottom line is that you won’t be able to achieve victory on your own. Using a broad range of communication-centered mechanics including planning, coordination, building, tactics, and neatly-integrated VoIP, on the other hand, might give you a fighting chance.

But, here’s the thing. Squad is a multiplayer game, so it requires an Internet connection. And like any other online game, it may be subject to a series of connectivity issues, such as high latency and packet loss.

What is packet loss in Squad

Packet loss behaves almost the same regardless of where you may spot it. It’s described by the inability of data packets to reach their intended destination, which is why packet loss is different than high ping.

High ping/latency – data packets need more time to reach their destination (they’re delayed)

Packet loss – data packets never make it to their destination (they’re usually dropped)

Therefore, it’s somewhat obvious that packet loss is also more severe than high latency. Here is a list of potential symptoms of high packet loss in Squad:

Rubberbanding (freezing and suddenly teleporting someplace else on the map)

Unresponsive menus

Sluggish character movement (often accompanied by rubberbanding)

Delayed text chat (or messages that never make it in the text chat)

Sudden game crashes or server disconnections (by far the most severe symptom)

What causes Squad packet loss

Many are curious as to why packet loss happens, especially in video games. If you were to leak packets while reading a news article, for instance, a simple refresh in your web browser would fix the issue and make you forget it even existed.

However, in certain computer programs and processes, things are somewhat different. And for good reason, too.

Let’s take video games, such as Squad, for example. During a gaming session, your PC establishes a connection to the game server, which also hosts the other players.

Considering that a Squad match supports up to 100 players, it’s safe to assume that playing Squad can put a lot of strain on your connection.

In order for you to enjoy Squad, the connection must be kept alive, so it’s inevitable to encounter certain hiccups such as jitter, high latency, and packet loss (you should notice a packet loss symbol).

Here’s what causes Squad packet loss:

Network congestion (by far the most common cause)

ISP bandwidth throttling

Poor ISP traffic management (routing)

Outdated drivers on your system

Using Wi-Fi instead of wired connections

Having an outdated firmware version on your router

Insufficient bandwidth due to Internet subscription plan

Using high quality settings that the connection can’t accommodate

Server-side issues

And that’s barely scratching the surface. There are a lot of reasons why you might encounter packet loss in Squad. Furthermore, the issue can be on your side, on your ISP’s side, or on the game server host’s side.

Knowing the cause of experiencing packet loss can greatly help you in finding an efficient fix for it.

How to detect packet loss in Squad

Locate the IP address or host address of the Squad server where you suspect leaking packets

Note it down someplace (unless you have an incredible memory)

On your Windows 10 PC, launch a CMD instance

Type pathping chúng tôi in the CMD (replace chúng tôi with the IP you previously noted down)

Wait for the test results

Check each hop’s packet loss values

If you drew the short straw and are leaking packets, you might want to run some tests just to make sure you’re not confusing it with something else.

Each node you see belongs to a part of your connection (i.e. the connection between your PC and the game server).

Rule of thumb: the first hop (zero) always belongs to your PC, and the last one corresponds to the server you run the text against (i.e. chúng tôi the IP you used earlier). If you’re confused, just use the screenshot above for clarification.

That’s it. If you see a high packet loss percentage on any node, it means your connection is experiencing this issue.

How to fix Squad packet loss? 1. Use a VPN

Buy a premium VPN subscription (we recommend Private Internet Access)

Download and install the VPN on your PC

Launch the VPN client and log into your account

Choose an appropriate server and connect to it

Launch Squad

Check if there’s any improvement

Optionally: run the pathping test once more to make sure

Private Internet Access (PIA) is an excellent VPN service from Kape Technologies and one of the few providers who offer 24/7 live chat support to its customers.

Aside from its privacy and security features, PIA can also fix certain connectivity issues and bypass geoblocking.

Using a VPN can improve packet loss by routing your traffic away from your ISP’s limited connection. However, as you may have figured out, it will only work if your ISP is to blame for your packet loss situations.

Therefore, using a VPN won’t improve packet loss if the issue is on your side, or the game server’s side. Therefore, make sure to rule out your PC/the server host as causes for your packet leak situation before investing in a VPN.

2. Flush your DNS

On your Windows 10 PC, launch an elevated CMD instance

In the CMD window, run the following commands, one by one:

Restart your PC immediately after running the last command. Once the boot sequence is finished, try launching Squad once more and check if you’re still experiencing packet loss.

More often than not, clearing up cached data build-ups can have a great effect on your connection’s well-being. As it turns out, flushing your DNS can help you achieve just that.

3. Troubleshoot your connection manually

Restart your PC, router, and/or modem, as necessary

Make sure your system drivers, especially network ones, are up-to-date

Restart the game and check if there’s any improvement

Use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi packet loss happens more often)

Upgrade your Internet subscription plan, if possible

Inspect your home network thoroughly for any malfunctioning component

Fix, replace, or upgrade worn-out Ethernet cables

Close any bandwidth-heavy apps or services running on your PC (torrenting, VoIP clients)

Lower Squad’s video/audio quality settings

Call your ISP and ask them if they can take a look and/or fix your issue

Avoid peak hours to eliminate network congestion issues (or use a VPN)

Switch the channel your wireless router broadcasts on

Note that these suggestions won’t necessarily eliminate (or even reduce, for that matter) packet loss, especially if the issue is not on your side.

However, performing maintenance on your connection every once in a while can keep many connectivity issues at bay.

Final thoughts on Squad packet loss

To sum it up, Squad is an awesome game, there’s no way around it. However, occasional packet loss issues might turn Squad into an unpleasant experience for you, especially if you notice a pattern starting to form.

If you want to patch it up quickly, a VPN can come in really handy. On the other hand, this quick fix only works if the packet loss is caused by your ISP (i.e. occurs somewhere between you and the game server, excluding the endpoints).

Last, but not least, you may want to perform a bit of manual troubleshooting. It may not eliminate packet loss like a charm, but at least you’ll have a healthier connection, and you can rule your system out as a potential cause for packet loss.

Your connection is not secure – websites you visit can find out your details:

Use a VPN to protect your privacy and secure your connection.

World of Warcraft, or just WoW for friends, is a game that needs no introduction. Or shouldn’t. It goes way back to its launch in 2004 and has grown a lot since then. Well, technically. Most players are not exactly impressed by the latest expansions.

But the reason why we’re talking about WoW is not its awesomeness. Not by far. It’s because sometimes, like any other massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), WoW faces a series of challenges.

We’re talking about the usual suspects: high ping, jitter, connection timeouts, and even packet loss if you’re unlucky. However, most of these issues arise due to network congestion.

If that’s the case, there’s little you can do to improve your situation other than waiting. As such, playing when the networks are the least loaded seems to give the best results.

On the other hand, sometimes network congestion isn’t the culprit. So who’s to blame in that situation? That’s exactly what you’re going to find out in the following few sections.

What does packet loss in WoW look like?

In WoW, packet loss looks almost the same as in any other game or program.

Therefore, your character moves slower, if at all, interacting with the menus is delayed, you might even rubberband every now and then, and if you’re truly unlucky, you can get kicked out of the server.

If any of the above has ever happened to you, you might’ve experienced packet loss. The good news is that most of the time, this situation fixes itself. The bad news is that most of the time, this situation fixes itself. Get it?

However, waiting shouldn’t be your default course of action, even though it has a high success rate.

What is a normal packet loss for WoW?

If you’re tech-savvy, you might understand that losing packets is perfectly natural. However, losing too many regularly is when things start getting out of hand.

So what is a normal packet loss for World of Warcraft? Ideally, it should be none. But realistically speaking, any value less than 1% can be deemed as good.

If this percentage goes up, you’ll start noticing anomalies in the game, such as slowdowns, sluggish movement, and such.

How to check packet loss in WoW?

Hit the Win key on your keyboard

Select Run as Administrator

Go to

the chúng tôi website for the IP addresses

Select World of Warcraft from the menu

Check the server’s IP address for the region you’re interested in and note it

Type the pathping chúng tôi command in your CMD prompt (replace chúng tôi with the IP you’ve noted above)

Wait for it to complete

Check the hops for high ping values. If any hops yield high ping values, you might have a packet loss issue. You can check our comprehensive guide to learn more about packet loss and how to detect it effortlessly.

How to fix WoW packet loss? 1. Use a VPN

Download Private Internet Access and deploy it on your PC

Launch it and log into your account

Connect to a server you prefer

Launch WoW

Check if you’re still having packet loss issues

Private Internet Access is a great VPN tool from Kape Technologies that can help you secure your connection, keep it private, bypass geo-restrictions, and curb issues such as ISP throttling or packet loss.

Private Internet Access

Losing packets in WoW? PIA can lend you a helping hand.

$2.85/mo. Buy it now

But in order for this fix to work the packet loss must be triggered by the ISP. Thus, using a VPN won’t fix packet loss if it occurs on your side or if it’s the WoW game server’s fault.

2. Troubleshoot the connection and isolate the problem

Run the packet loss test as we’ve explained above

Determine which hop has the highest ping value

Take action according to your findings

There are four different locations where packet leaks might occur. Namely:

Your home network, including your PC, router, home line, and even Ethernet cables

The ISP’s network

Network distribution company’s connection (the one that’s above your ISP)

WoW game servers

Therefore, depending on the packet loss location you discover, you can take different actions. For instance:

Check your side of the connection thoroughly (your PC, cables, home line, and router)

Contact your ISP if the problem seems to occur on one of their hops

Ask your ISP to contact the big network distribution company

Contact Blizzard and ask them nicely to look into the issue if their servers trigger packet loss

WoW might lose packets, but it’s not the end of the world

Long story short, it’s perfectly fine for you to lose packets while playing WoW every now and then. It happens all the time, and if it doesn’t last long or happen frequently, waiting for the issue to fix itself can be the best course of action.

However, sometimes there might be underlying issues that trigger the problem, and that’s when you should step in.

Ranging from changing your Ethernet cable, using a VPN, and switching to a wired connection to calling your ISP and contacting Blizzard, there are plenty of fixes you could try out before calling it a day.

Your connection is not secure – websites you visit can find out your details:

Use a VPN to protect your privacy and secure your connection.

Warframe is a free-to-play fast-paced cooperative third-person game. Part of its popularity likely emerged from the fact that you can play the game for free.

Sure, some of its players are reportedly upset that the game follows a pay-to-win pattern. However, the truth is that most of the game content can be unlocked through grinding, except for a few cosmetic items.

But we didn’t gather here to talk about game economics and micro-transactions. Since it’s an online game, Warframe is subject to the same technical issues as any other game you play over the Internet.

We’re talking about high ping, various bad connectivity issues, and, of course, the much-dreaded packet loss.

What is packet loss in Warframe?

Packet loss already has a bad rap, regardless of where you spot it. This apparently harmless issue can severely affect your in-game experience to the point that you can’t even play the game without the burning desire of rage-quitting.

If you’ve ever seen someone rubberbanding in Warframe, you’d guess that they have a high ping. However, most of the time packet loss is the culprit. But what exactly is packet loss?

On a usual Internet connection, you send and receive packets all the time. Ideally, the percentage of packets you send and/or receive should be as close as possible to 100%.

Packet loss happens when some of the data packets that get transmitted through the connection never make it to their destination, whether the destination point is you, or another bounce in your connection.

In Warframe, packet loss could lead to various other issues, including but not limited to rubberbanding, high latency, or even sudden connection drops.

It’s easy to see why such an issue could have a dramatic effect on your gameplay.

What causes packet loss in Warframe?

There’s no unique culprit when it comes to packet loss, regardless of where you experience it. In Warframe, you can experience packet loss because of network congestion, for instance.

If it is network congestion indeed, the packet loss will come and go. Thus, you can simply fix it by avoiding peak hours. However, sometimes there’s a simpler underlying cause.

For instance, having bad Ethernet cables can trigger a packet leak episode. Even if you prefer using WiFi instead of wired connections you can trigger packet loss.

Thus, it’s easy to see why it’s so difficult to spot the main cause of losing packets accurately.

How to detect packet loss in Warframe?

Launch CMD with Administrator rights

Run a packet loss test as we’ve described in our guide

Wait for the pathping test to come to an end

Check the number of the hop where you notice packet loss

If you can use a game server’s IP address in the pathping test, the test will yield more accurate results. If not, you can use another external IP address and see if there’s something wrong on your side of the connection.

How to fix Warframe packet loss? 1. Use a VPN

Download Private Internet Access

Deploy it on your PC

Launch it and sign in to your PIA account

Connect to your server of choice

Check and see if the packet loss issue still persists

It’s worth mentioning that if you choose a server that’s far away from your physical connection, you might experience high ping. For this purpose, try connecting to a server that’s nearby.

On the contrary, if you think that the issue is triggered by the game server, try connecting to a server that’s in the same location as the game server, or at least nearby.

2. Troubleshoot the issue manually

Use a wired connection instead of WiFi (WiFi packet loss occurs more frequently)

Check and fix any troublesome component on the network, including Ethernet wires, routers, adapters

Try to avoid peak hours if possible

Contact the game server’s owner if you suspect the packet loss occurs on their side

Talk to your ISP if you notice that the pathping test indicates trouble on their side

Restart your PC, modem, and router

These fixes are not guaranteed to work, but maintaining your network running at optimal parameters can make sure other issues won’t be as likely.

Warframe packet loss is frequent but can be fixed

All things considered, if you’re experiencing packet loss in Warframe, it’s not the end of the world. Most of the time it’s caused by network congestion and can be easily fixed.

You can use a VPN such as PIA to reduce packet loss. However, this fix should only work if your ISP is throttling your bandwidth or has routed its network in an improper manner.
