As you all know, Microsoft accidentally pushed Windows 10 Build 18947 to all Insiders.
Some people didn’t get a chance to install the build as Microsoft quickly took it down. However, many Insiders managed to sneak-peak at the latest features.
This build brings a redesigned Start Menu. Recent reports suggest Microsoft has revamped the Control Centre UI as well.
As a quick reminder, Microsoft unfolded a new Control Center design back in 2023. The concept was pretty interesting as it allowed you to quickly access the system settings.
It came with some toggle buttons similar to those you can find in the Windows 10 Action Center. That Control Center is back
Many Windows Insiders reported that Control Center is back again in Windows 10. You can edit the Windows Registry to enable it.
You can try the hidden Control Center if you are currently running the Windows 10 Insider Build 18947.
— Rafael Rivera (@WithinRafael) July 24, 2023
This time, Microsoft divided the Control Center into two separate parts Action Center and Quick Actions. You will see all the notifications in the Action Center.
However, you can use the Quick Actions panel to activate or deactivate different options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can see a list of options by dragging the adjustable panel upwards.
You will now see all the new notifications slightly above the Control Center. The latest Control Center features a compact interface design. Microsoft is currently testing the new functionality and it may not work as expected.
However, the full functionality will be available once Windows 10 20H1 is available next year.Steps to enable the new Control Center UI on Windows 10
This feature is currently available in Windows 10 Build 18947.
Follow these steps to enable the hidden Control Center on your system:
Navigate to the following path in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionControl CenterUseLiteLayout
Create a new DWORD and change its default value to 1.
Many people didn’t like the buggy update at all. That is why Microsoft is highly recommending all users to roll back to a previous stable build.
Generally, the rollback option is available to Windows 10 users for a period of 10 days.
Moreover, those who have not installed the update yet should delay the installation for 7 days. You will see that this build is no longer available in the Windows Update section.

There are a couple of tweaks to be found in Cydia that claim to allow you to customize the sections in Control Center, but only one of them is worth your time. CCHide is the tweak that you should target should the need arise to remove sections from Control Center in iOS 7.
Ever since iOS 7 was released in beta form, I’ve been dying for a way to customize Control Center. It comes as no surprise that just a few days after the iOS 7 jailbreak released to the public, a deluge of Control Center tweaks hit Cydia allowing you to do just that. CCHide is one of the best Control Center tweaks available, and it is hands-down better than its closest competitor, CleanCC.
As we tend to do, we’ve created a video walkthrough showcasing all of the features and functions of this excellent new jailbreak tweak. Have a look inside as we take CCHide through a thorough spin on video.
As with most jailbreak tweaks of this type, once CCHide is installed, you can find its options in the Stock settings app. Inside of CCHide’s preference pane, you’ll notice several toggles dedicated to the different sections to be found within Control Center.
The following toggles are contained within CCHide’s preferences:
Settings Section (toggles)
Media Controls Section
Quick Launch Section (app shortcuts)
There’s also a toggle for enabling conditional media controls. This toggle forces media controls to stay hidden unless it detects that music is currently playing. Unfortunately, this conditional control didn’t want to play nice with Spotify, so the media controls stayed hidden, even though music was playing by means of the Spotify app. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in a future update.
The best thing about CCHide is how easy it is to use. You can literally disabled a toggle for a specific section, and have that section immediately disappear. The CleanCC jailbreak tweak that I mentioned earlier tries to do a lot of the same things as CCHide, but judging from that tweak’s preferences, any changes require a respring. Sadly, I was unable to totally confirm this, because I couldn’t get CleanCC working properly on any of my jailbroken devices.
I don’t know about you, but there are some sections in Control Center that I rarely use. The one that’s most obvious in that regard is the AirDrop/AirPlay section. I rarely use that section, so it was the first one to go as I was testing out CCHide. But it doesn’t just stop there. You can hide every section to be found in Control Center, if that’s your desire. In the end, you can make the Control Center overlay nothing more than a small little nub due to it being completely devoid of sections.
Simply put, if you’re searching for a cleaner looking Control Center in iOS 7, then look no further. CCHide can be downloaded free of charge on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. If you decide to take it for a test drive, let us know what you think about it, and what sections in Control Center that you’re using it to hide.
AMD’s polishing up software support for its new Fury X and Radeon R300 series graphics cards with the release of new WHQL-certified Catalyst 15.7 drivers. This sweeping update plays nicely with Windows 10, adds the clamored-for (and oft-delayed) CrossFire multi-GPU support for FreeSync monitors, and extends some of AMD’s formerly exclusive features (like frame rate target control) to the full range of older Radeon R200 series graphics cards.
The story behind the story: AMD is often criticized for failing to release new WHQL-certified drivers at the same blistering pace as Nvidia. That said, the abundance of new goodies enabled in Catalyst 15.7 proves that AMD can stay feature-competitive with the GeForce gang, even if those features are released at a slightly slower pace—and they’re sure to bring a smile to the faces of Radeon gamers everywhere. What’s new in AMD’s Catalyst 15.7 drivers
The first of many improvements in the drivers is FreeSync support for CrossFire setups. AMD’s FreeSync (and Nvidia’s competing G-Sync) force your monitor and your graphics card to synchronize their refresh rates—hence the name—to provide a silky-smooth gaming experience free of screen-tearing and stuttering. Simply put, they rock.
The first FreeSync monitors rolled out in March, but without support for multi-GPU CrossFire setups. That was kind of a bummer: FreeSync rocks, but buying a FreeSync-compatible monitor essentially locks you into using Radeon-brand graphics cards for five to ten years. That makes it most appealing to AMD’s Team Red diehards—a.k.a., the very people most likely to be running a multi-GPU CrossFire setup. AMD had to cancel its initial plans to release CrossFire FreeSync support in April, stating “it’s now clear to us that support for AMD FreeSync monitors on a multi-GPU system is not quite ready for release”—but now it is. Hallelujah! (AMD dual-GPU configurations that pair an APU with a single discrete graphics card aren’t supported, however.)
More importantly for gamers with more modest setups, Catalyst 15.7 extends support for AMD’s nifty Virtual Super Resolution and Frame Rate Target Control technologies to a wider range of older hardware.
Virtual Super Resolution debuted with AMD’s feature-stuffed Catalyst Omega drivers last December, but it worked only with a handful of high-end graphics cards (the R9 285, R9 290, R9 290X, and dual-GPU R9 295X2), ostensibly due to the need for internal hardware scalers. Well, somebody at AMD must have figured out some software trickery, because VSR is now supported on those GPUs, the full range of new Radeon R300 series graphics cards, and all Radeon R7 260 and above GPUs, along with all A-series 7400K and above desktop GPUs. (Hallelujah!)
Frame Rate Target Control, on the other hand, appeared in the launch drivers for the Radeon R300 series graphics cards in June. This technology essentially lets you set a hard cap on your frame rates in games, which—as our extensive testing proved—can provide tangible, large benefits for both power and heat use when it’s enabled with titles that push a tremendous amount of frame anyway.
Power savings provided by enabling FRTC at various cap levels in BioShock: Infinite.
I decided to write this article because, there are still many people that don’t realize that if they are using Windows 7 Home Premium, Ultimate, Professional or Enterprise, they don’t just have the most powerful operating system today, but they also have Windows 7 Media Center (MCE), and this feature in Windows is frequently ignore. Media Center is a powerful piece of Microsoft software, very stable, that enables you to convert your computer screen or TV into an entertainment hub; where you are able to stream and enjoy, in a whole different way, your music, videos, movies, watch and record live TV (With the addition of TV tuner cards), Internet TV for free, Netflix; etc.
With Windows Media Center you can:
Watch and record TV shows in either over the air HD, Digital with CableCARD; or standard antenna, cable or satellite signal, although satellite could be a little challenging to configure.
Burn your recording to a DVD or transfer them to a compatible potable media player.
New TV guide integrates broadcast TV plus Internet TV, all in one Place.
Setup Parental control to help you to control what your children watch.
Pause and resume live TV shows and also Windows Media Center allows you to fast-forwarding through commercials of recorded shows.
Sport Channel: Full sports coverage, previews, highlights, interviews, analysis , follow your favorites players, and more.
Watch Internet TV: This a new feature in Windows Media Center that delivers a lot of entertainment over the internet for free. There are a lot of full length TV shows that you can watch; as well as video podcasts, thanks to the Zune market place.
If you have Netflix member ship, you can order your DVD’s with the remote control and stream a wide variety of movies and TV shows.
Play DVD or Blu-Ray movies. (Additional hardware and/or software may be required for Blu-Ray).
Easily rip your own audio CD’s and save your favorites tunes in the MCE library. You can crate playlists and also play music that you already have in your computer or other computers around the house. You don’t know what to play? Both music and pictures categories now have a “Play Favorites” that learns from items played in the past.
Turbo Scroll: It would be pretty difficult to sort through thousands of items; press and hold the left or right arrow in your remote and titles will start flying by, until you see a blur, and letters will start to appearing as clues to let you know when might be time to stop. This works for music, pictures, and TV guide.
Browse media while watching TV or doing other tasks.
Use your computer as a remote control: Now you can stream from media player 12 audio or video to Windows 7 Media Center.
Play FM radio if your tuner is capable.
On the go: Sync audio, video, pictures and TV recording to a compatible portable media player or compatible phones.
Play audio, video or pictures from external storage, compatible portable media player or compatible phones.
Show off your vacation pictures using MCE. Create slide shows of your favorites photos and share them with friends and family; sitting in your living room couch while playing music.
Slide Show Screen Saver: When you are not using Windows 7 Media Center, your TV will be converted into a giant picture frame, from the collection of pictures in your library.
Play Windows games.
Enjoy recorded TV shows, music, video; even when it’s not stored on your PC. The new HomeGroup feature makes media available to any PC running Windows 7 in the house.
Extender for Windows Media Center: An extender is a device that allows you to stream your Windows Media Center content, wired or wirelessly, from your PC or laptop to a TV screen. There are devices in the market that allows you to do this, but if you have an Xbox 360 you already have it. When you are using extender you can pause whatever you are watching and resume where you left of in another room.
Install plugins: These are applications that could be either from Microsoft or a third party software company. They will add more functionality to your Windows Media Center.
Microsoft has improved Media Center in a whole new level with its new features.
To see if you have Media Center:
2- In the search box type “Windows Media Center”, if the green Windows’ logo appear in the list, you have it and is waiting for you to start using it.
There are many devices in the market that are capable to work as a media center, like Apple TV and Tivo to name a couple. In my opinion both, Apple TV and Tivo, lack of features in comparison; most of them can be found in Media Center. Remember that when you get Tivo, you also need to pay a monthly subscription feed; which is not the case when using Media Center. Once you give it a try, you will be hooked, Windows 7 Media Center is an excellent media hub and great DVR solution.
After months of testing as a part of the technical preview, Microsoft recently made its ‘Project Honolulu’ ‘generally available’ to the users at no extra cost. What’s added, this project now has a new official name: Windows Admin Center (WAC).
According to Microsoft’s guesstimates, the software has been downloaded more than 50,000 times during its testing phase and has been deployed by over 25,000 customers; these numbers surely confirm the existing exhilaration surrounding the Windows Admin Center.
For Windows administrators who are tired of dealing with opening several consoles and management apps to administer networks, WAC is the one-stop shop.Windows Admin Center
Windows Admin Center is a locally deployed, browser-based app for managing servers, clusters, hyper-converged infrastructure, and Windows 10 PCs.
Simply put, WAC is kind of centralized hub which brings together several consoles that IT admins use. These might consist of “Event Viewer, Device Manager, Disk Management, Task Manager, Server Manager”, and many more. Basically, WAC is a “simple and elegant” answer to managing Windows Server and Windows 10 deployments, and the best part is that it comes at no additional cost. What Can Windows Admin Center Do
To clear all doubts, WAC doesn’t aim to replace the Microsoft Management Console or the Remote Server Administration Tools. Both these features are not included in the WAC and users will still have to use those tools to manage things like Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
WAC mainly incorporates a bunch of different tools into one single interface. Behind the scenes, it performs its tasks using PowerShell and WMI. It can be installed on a client machine or remotely on a server, depending on organizational needs. The main intent behind WAC is that it should replace the mix of remote and local admin tools that are used for ad hoc administrative tasks, many of which might traditionally be done with Remote Desktop. To that end, WAC has interfaces for tasks like:
Managing network settings
Listing and ending processes
It currently supports the Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers on Windows 10 version 1709, commonly known as the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Note: other browsers are not compatible). WAC doesn’t require internet access and doesn’t have any cloud dependencies, as such it doesn’t have any dependency on Azure or any cloud service.
Read: How to remove Roles and Features in Windows Server.Advantages Of Using Windows Admin Center
Microsoft is pitching WAC as a tool to help IT administrators in four key areas:
Modern & Simple Management Experience – WAC is a simple lightweight, browser-based GUI platform, and toolset which empowers the IT admins to remotely manage Windows Server and Windows 10 machines.
Hybrid Skills – WAC can manage Windows Server and Windows 10 instances anywhere including physical systems, virtual machines on any hypervisor, or running in any cloud; Basically, it allows the users to leverage the power of the cloud.
Integrated Toolset – Get a holistic overview of your resources and dig further into granular details. WAC eliminates the need to switch between several different tools and contexts.
Secure Management – Allows users to control who manage servers and get acumens into the actions administrators perform in the user’s environment.
Another standout feature is the Windows Admin Center SDK. This feature will be soon released for public testing; also, according to Microsoft, it will allow developers to build their tools to extend WAC features.
