WhatsApp’s new voice messaging features include multitasking while listening to a message, waveform visualization, draft previews and more.
WhatsApp is rolling out five enhancements for voice messaging in its mobile app
New features include out of chat playback, message previews and more
The rollout will take several weeks to completeFive new features for WhatsApp voice messages
Meta-owned WhatsApp announced the new voice messaging features in a blog post. There are five new features that improve WhatsApp’s voice messaging experience:
Out of chat playback
Pause and resume recording
Fast playback on forwarded messages
WhatsApp has been extensively testing these enhancements with a small number of users. The service is now gradually expanding the voice messaging improvements to all users. Keep in mind that this is a staggered rollout that will take a few weeks to complete. Therefore, if you don’t have the new features after updating WhatsApp to the latest available version [App Store link], check back in a few days or weeks.1. Out of chat playback
Out of chat playback lets you listen to a long message while multitasking within the app. Who wants to sit and stare at their screen while listening to a 5-minute message from a friend who goes on and on? Well, now you can start message playback and then navigate away from the chat thread to read and respond to other messages while listening to the audio message (you can’t record video or another voice message until you’ve finished listening to the current message).2. Pause and resume recording
Recording a long audio message can take multiple tries if you get interrupted unless you’re reading from a script. So instead of forcing the recipient to sit through your long pauses and “uhms,” you can now pause the recording whenever you feel like recollecting your thoughts, then resume when you feel ready to continue.3. Waveform visualization
The recording interface has received tweaks such as a visual waveform representing the sound of your voice as it’s being recorded. It’s a quality-of-life improvement because the waveform helps you follow the recording and see whether you’re perhaps talking too quietly. Read: How to send view-once media on WhatsApp4. Draft preview
When finished recording a message, you can review it before sending. Previewing a message could help you prevent catastrophic mistakes such as sending the voice message to the wrong person. Listen to your voice messages before sending them also gives you a chance to hear whether you have omitted an important information from your recording. Your messages may be short and up to the point, but that doesn’t mean your friends are as succinct in their voice messaging as yourself. So now when you receive a particularly long voice message, you can play it back at 1.5x or 2x speeds. This works for both regular and forwarded messages. If you’re not exchanging voice messages with friends, you’re officially old. Of course, WhatsApp is hardly the first messaging app to integrate voice messaging. But still, this form of messaging has become very popular in the past few years. Blame it on the teenagers, who would rather record a long voice message than type it out.
According to WhatsApp itself, people send more than seven billion voice messages on average. Recorded messages are private at all times because WhatsApp secures them with end-to-end encryption. With end-to-end encryption, the key to decrypt your communication is stored on your device rather than on WhatsApp’s servers. Messages are encrypted at rest (on your device) and in transit (while being sent to and from the cloud) to prevent eavesdropping.

After Microsoft first announced Windows 11, it released some major Windows 11 previews, including Build 22000.51 and 22000.100, to Windows Insiders a good look at all the new features. And today, Microsoft has finally released the first stable build of Windows 11 to all eligible users. If you are excited to try the next-gen Windows OS update, we have written a tutorial on how to upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10. We have been testing Windows 11 for weeks now and have come across some of the best new Windows 11 features that you should know about. From hidden features to the major ones, we have covered all the new features of Windows 11 in great detail here.Best New Windows 11 Features (Updated October 202`1) 1. New Start Menu
Of all the new Windows 11 features, the new launcher-style floating Start Menu is the most distinctive part of Microsoft’s next-gen desktop OS. Unlike the traditional Start Menu, the new Start — as Microsoft is calling it — sits right at the center of the taskbar. It has a flyout design with pinned and recommended apps accompanying each other. So far in my usage, the recommendations are pretty good. It quickly offers me access to documents, photos, and apps I have recently installed.
Apart from that, you can hover your mouse over the Search menu, and it will offer you a few suggested apps based on your past searches. Overall, I think the new Start is the best thing about Windows 11. It’s fast, resolves your queries smartly, and offers the best results within seconds.2. New Action Center
What’s more interesting is that the Bluetooth connection is now much faster, and you don’t need to dive into Settings to pair your device. It also houses the notifications in a clean design with badge support and offers ample space to reply or clear the clutter. Not to mention, the new Action Center is responsive in comparison to the laggy mess that was Windows 10’s Action Center. Kudos Microsoft!3. Universal Media Control
Yeah, you can now control all your media playback from the new Action Center on Windows 11. No matter if you are playing a YouTube video, Spotify playlist, a Twitter clip, or a local video, everything shows up in the Action Center. Note that I tried playing a video with VLC, but it didn’t show up. However, when I played the same local video through the native “Films & TV” app, it worked flawlessly. So yeah, Universal Media Control is another neat feature in Windows 11.4. Modern File Explorer
The File Explorer on Windows has been a major point of contention among Windows users. Diehard fans have disapproved of any change to the File Explorer, stating why to change something if it works perfectly well. That said, it indeed needed a modern makeover, and I am happy to report that the new File Explorer is functional and has all the features you need. You now have colorful new icons, a new Context menu, and a Command bar up top, which replaces the existing Ribbon menu bar.5. New Microsoft Store
The newly-designed Microsoft Store is another great new feature of Windows 11. It’s built from the ground up and now supports Win32, .NET, UWP, Xamarin, Electron, React Native, Java, and even Progressive Web Apps. You can even find themes and extensions for Microsoft Edge on the new Microsoft Store.
Frankly, I have never been a fan of Microsoft Store because of the sluggish and janky experience in the past, but the new one truly looks great. One thing to note in the current build is that you still can’t view the last updated date of an app. Moreover, the new Microsoft Store will also support Android apps, but support for the same will arrive at a later stage. You can read more about it right below.6. Android Apps Support in Windows 11
A major highlight of Windows 11 is that it can now run Android apps powered by the Amazon App Store. However, Android app support has not been rolled out in the stable Windows 11 build. Microsoft has confirmed that the option to install Android apps will arrive in the upcoming builds. But wait, there’s more. The best part is that you can even sideload APKs on your Windows 11 PC. How cool is that?
As for the implementation, Microsoft has taken the same approach as WSL 2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux). That means Android apps will run natively on Windows 11, and the performance will be pretty good. Not to mention, Android apps will run both on Intel and AMD processors, irrespective of the Intel Bridge technology that brings this amazing feature to life. To learn more about Android app support on Windows 11, check out our explainer on Project Latte.7. Redesigned Settings App
You also get a power and battery usage report (screen on time in Windows 11) similar to smartphones, some stunning themes, and more. All in all, I really like the new Settings redesign, but in its current form, it’s a bit slow and not as responsive as one would expect. And for those who are wondering, yes, you still have Control Panel at your disposal.
Yes, you read that right. With Windows 11, you will have a much faster Windows update process, thanks to the background installation mechanism. Microsoft has promised that Windows updates will now be 40% smaller, making the process even more efficient.
Not to mention, if an update installation is pending while restarting your PC, it will show you the estimated time required to complete the update. This nifty addition will save you time and hassle. The new update system is one of the best, if not the best, features of Windows 11.9. Snap Layout & Other New Multitasking Features
Snapping was already great on Windows 10, but Microsoft has taken it a notch further with easier Snap Assist. This new feature is called Snap Layouts. Now, when you hover your mouse pointer over a window’s maximize button, you will find various layouts for how you want to position the window. You can also invoke the snap layout option with the “Win + Z” Windows keyboard shortcut. If you use a large monitor, this will help maximize your productivity.10. Windows 11 Widgets 11. New Context Menu & Rounded Corners
Windows 11 has finally brought a modern context menu sans the sharp corners. It gels well with the overall Windows 11 aesthetics. But let me tell you something, there was no “Refresh” button in the context menu in the initial builds. Don’t worry, though. Microsoft listened to user feedback and brought back the “Refresh” button in recent Windows Insider preview builds. And well, the “F5” shortcut still works in Windows 11.
If you take my opinion, I really like the new UI, and the new Mica effect used for Windows UI elements is great. Besides that, you will find rounded corners everywhere, and I hope Microsoft maintains this level of consistency as we move along.12. Teams Chat Integration 13. New Your Phone App
Since its release in 2023, Microsoft has continuously improved the Your Phone app, but after the stable Windows 11 release, it seems a new redesigned version of Your Phone has come to Windows 11 with the stable release. Recently, during the Surface event, a new version of the Your Phone app was teased, and it’s built on the Windows 11 aesthetics to match the rest of the UI.
While the existing version of Your Phone app supports launching Android apps from your phone, but it’s only limited to flagship Samsung phones. We hope that the new Your Phone on Windows 11 brings app mirroring to all Android phones.14. New MS Paint, Photos, MS Office, Media Player
One of the best things about Windows 11 is that Microsoft is not just reskinning the OS to the new Fluent UI, along with rounded corners and Mica material, but the company is also showing similar effort to redesign its first-party apps. Microsoft has overhauled one of its oldest apps, Paint, to the new design language, and it looks beautiful. The recent Windows 11 Dev build brought the new Paint app and it syncs with the rest of the UI elements.
Furthermore, the Photos app has also been updated with rounded corners and new features such as side-by-side comparison, floating toolbar, smart categorization, and a lot more. If you have not got the new UI, follow our tutorial and learn how to manually install the new Photos app on Windows 11.15. Focus Sessions
Focus Sessions is one of the best new features of Windows 11 as it brings something new to Microsoft’s desktop OS, similar to what we have seen on smartphones. To be productive on Windows 11, Microsoft wants users to utilize the dedicated Focus Sessions feature in the Alarms and Clock app. You can link your Microsoft To-Do list to manage your tasks and integrate Spotify to listen to your favorite music during work.
It also reminds you to take a break after longs hours of work, lets you set timers so that you remain disciplined to the task, and brings a helpful dashboard to keep track of your progress. What I love the most is that there is a widget as well for Focus Sessions, which you can place on the desktop for quick glancing. If you want to learn how to use Focus Sessions on Windows 11, go through our linked guide.16. Voice Typing
Voice Typing is among my favorite Windows 11 features as it makes typing much easier and acts as a great accessibility tool. You just need to press the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut “Win + H“, and you can dictate whatever you want to write.
I use Google voice typing on my Android device, and it’s fairly accurate, but I was surprised to find that Microsoft has indeed improved its voice recognition algorithm, and it works wonderfully well. It even supports auto punctuation which is just awesome. So go ahead and try out Voice Typing on Windows 11.17. Advanced Gesture Controls
After testing the Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22000.51, I can confidently say that the new gestures feel smooth while moving between apps, virtual desktops, handling webpage, and more. You will almost feel like you are interacting with a tablet. I love the three-swipe down gesture to minimize all the open windows instantly.18. New Minimal Lock Screen
While everyone is pumped about the new design and what is inside Windows 11, let me tell you that the new lock screen on Windows 11 looks stunning as well. It applies an acrylic blur in the background, and the new variable Segoe UI font makes things even better. If you don’t want all the links and recommendations on the lock screen, you can disable them from Settings for a clean lock screen.19. New Wallpapers & Sounds
Along with Windows 11, Microsoft has also brought a series of beautiful wallpapers, sounds, and themes. Wallpapers such as Captured Motion, Flow, Sunrise, Glow are some of the nicest wallpapers you can find on a desktop OS. Also, the startup and notification sound is really good. You can download Windows 11 wallpapers and listen to Windows 11 sounds from our linked articles.
Needless to say, Windows 11 has support for both light and dark mode, and this time around, the dark theme is pretty consistent across UI elements. We can disregard the few legacy components in Windows 11 build 22000.51 since Microsoft will polish it before the final release.20. Snappy Animations
Swipe away the widgets panel or close the Action Center, every UI element responds to the neat animation, and they look and feel amazing. As far as UI and UX are concerned, I think Windows 11 has knocked it out of the park, incorporating functional elements and beautiful design.21. Touch Keyboard Improvements
We know that Microsoft has removed the tablet mode from Windows 11, and for a good reason. It has now developed a unified interface that works for both desktop and tablet form factors. To enhance the tablet experience, the touch keyboard has got some major improvements in Windows 11. This includes support for themes, background image, the ability to customize text size, typing behavior, and more. So if you have a Windows tablet, Windows 11 is going to bring a whole new experience to your device.22. Auto HDR and Dynamic Refresh Rate
During the Windows 11 unveiling, Microsoft announced support for Auto HDR that would elevate the viewing experience while playing games. While we have not tried it on our system so far, it sure sounds like a great feature for the massive gaming community on Windows.23. Clipboard Syncing
Currently, it does not support image and video sharing through cloud clipboard, but we might get these features in the future. If you want to learn how to sync clipboard across Android phone and Windows 11 PC, follow our linked tutorial.24. Screen Time and Battery Usage
As Microsoft has completely overhauled the Settings page, some new features have also made their way to Windows 11. You can now find out how long the screen has been turned on after a full cycle of charging the battery. Apart from that, it also displays a graph of battery usage so that you can gauge the battery health of your laptop. Not to mention, you can also discover the list of apps that have consumed the battery juice.
For Windows laptops users, this is a great Windows 11 feature, and you should definitely check it out. To learn more about how to check screen on time in Windows 11, head over to the linked article.25. ARM Emulation
Not many have paid attention, but Windows 11 has also brought support for 64-bit emulation on ARM PCs with the ARM64EC layer. It’s a huge development, and Microsoft has made a great effort after many years of stagnation. Finally, you will be able to run Win32 64-bit apps on ARM-based Windows 11 PCs.Check Out the Best Windows 11 Features Available Today
WhatsApp has a chat moderation feature that lets you report suspicious conversations. The feature is intended to curb hate speech and misinformation in the platform, along with reducing spam. While the messaging app has allowed users to report contacts for a long time, WhatsApp is now rolling out the ability to report individual messages as well. So to give you a better look at how to tackle spam, abuse, or misinformation, we have compiled an in-depth guide on how to report WhatsApp messages.Report Messages on WhatsApp: A Step-by-Step Guide (2024)
First spotted by tipster WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently testing the option to report individual messages in beta. It’s live on WhatsApp beta version 184.108.40.206 and newer. If you are not using the beta version, we have also added steps to report a contact, which in turn shares five recent messages with WhatsApp. So without further, let’s jump right in!Why Should You Report WhatsApp Messages?
Reporting a WhatsApp message helps avoid unwanted interactions on the platform. You could report a message if it is problematic in nature or is a spam message. Once you submit a report, WhatsApp’s moderators will review it and may even ban the user if they violate the company’s Terms of Service.
Moreover, contrary to recent reports, reporting a spam message or contact doesn’t undermine WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption (E2EE) practice. The messaging app submits a copy of the last five messages of the contact you report. It does not share the entire chat history and break end-to-end encryption in any way.How to Report Individual WhatsApp Messages
2. Press the new ‘Report’ option to proceed further. It’s worth mentioning that the Report option will appear only when you select a single message. Reporting multiple messages is not supported right now, but there’s a workaround in the next section.
3. A pop-up will now appear clarifying that the message will be forwarded to WhatsApp, but rest assured, it will not notify the said contact. Press the ‘Report’ button to flag the potentially harmful message. You can also choose to block the contact from right this screen by selecting the ‘Block contact’ checkbox. How to Report a WhatsApp View Once Photo or Video
WhatsApp recently rolled out the option to send disappearing photos and videos called View Once to users worldwide. These photos and videos self-destruct once you have viewed the content. Now, if someone shares potentially sensitive or harmful content using View Once with you, report such photos and videos with ease. Follow the steps below:
1. Open a conversation window and long-press on a View Once message. Then, tap on the three dot menu icon on the top right corner of the screen. Select the ‘Report’ option here to share the contents of that disappearing message with WhatsApp.
3. Alternatively, you can also report contacts while viewing the disappearing photo or video. Simply tap the three dot menu icon at the top right and select the ‘Report [contact name] option.
If a chat has multiple messages you would like to report, choose to report the contact instead. This way, the last five messages from the person will get forwarded to WhatsApp.
1. To get started, open the chat window, tap on the three dots menu icon, and choose ‘More’.
2. Then, tap on ‘Report’ and press ‘Report’ again from the pop-up that appears. You can block the contact and delete the conversation on your end by selecting the ‘Block contact and delete chat’ checkbox.
1. Open a conversation, tap on the three dot icon at the top right corner. From the drop-down menu, select ‘Menu’, followed by the ‘Block’ option.
2. From the pop-up menu that now appears, tap the ‘Block’ option. You can also choose to report the contact once again while blocking them at the same time by selecting the ‘Report and Block’ option.
3. Alternatively, you can tap on the contact’s name or phone number at the top and scroll down to the bottom to find the ‘Block’ option.Report WhatsApp Messages in Easy Steps
You could consider reporting individual messages when it’s clearly a spam message. For other conversations, we suggest using the report contact option to report multiple messages at once would be a better option to give moderators some context. So yeah, considering it is in beta, it shouldn’t be long before the company brings the individual message reporting feature to all users via the stable version. Once you have reported the message, you can continue using all the best WhatsApp tricks, including the option to use WhatsApp as 2FA on Instagram.
iOS 16 is here for iPhone users, and it’s a nice update with some handy features that you’re sure to appreciate.
By far the biggest and most flashy new feature is the ability to customize the lock screen, but there are also many smaller useful features, including marking messages as unread, editing messages, unsending messages, scheduling emails, customizing Focus modes to lock screens, merging duplicate contacts, and more. Read along to check out these great new features, and how they work on your iPhone!1: Customize your Lock Screen with Widgets & Fonts
You can now use custom fonts and add widgets to your iPhone lock screen. Hooray!
Want to see the weather forecast on your lock screen? The time of sunset or sundown? Movements in the stock market? Activity data from Apple Watch? All of these widgets are available and more.
Customizing the iPhone lock screen is easy, all you need to do is long press on the clock at the Lock Screen, login to your iPhone as usual, and you’ll immediately be in the customization screen.
You can also access the lock screen customizations from the Settings app, of course.2: Mark iMessages as Unread
Ever wished you could mark a message as unread? Now you can, using the same simple swipe gesture that marks emails as unread on iPhone.
How many times have you read a message, but you can’t respond to it at the moment, or you want some time to think before responding? Or perhaps you accidentally tapped on a message marking it as read, when you didn’t want to do that quite yet?
Now with a simple swipe to the right, you can mark that iMessage as unread, and return to it later.3: Edit Sent Messages
Sent an embarrassing typo? Meant to say something else? Regret whatever you typed and sent? Now you can edit sent iMessages and correct those issues.
Long-press on a sent message and you’ll find the ability to edit the sent iMessage. You have up to 15 minutes to edit a sent message.
Note this works seamlessly on iMessage between fellow iMessage users, but not to SMS text message Android users, who simply get sent another message of whatever the correction is.4: Undo Sent iMessages
Ever sent a message you regret sending? Welcome to the club! Now you have 5 minutes to undo the sending of that iMessage.
Tap and hold on the sent message and choose “Undo Send” to retract the message. Phew!
This only works with fellow iOS 16 users, so if you’re trying to undo sending of a message to someone using an earlier version of iPhone system software, or Android, it’s not going to work.5: Focus Mode Ties to the Lock Screen
You can now have Focus Modes reflected on your lock screen. This allows you to enter a Focus mode and then have the lock screen change to accommodate whatever that Focus state is. For example, maybe you have a Focus for exercise, in which case you can have an inspirational lock screen image combined with stats from your Apple Watch shown as widgets. This is a fun one to play around with and customize.6: Schedule Sending Emails in Mail App
The Mail app on iPhone now has the ability to schedule the sending of emails. This is great for planning ahead, whether you’re on vacation, busy, want to send off an email at a specific date or time, send a birthday or holiday greeting, time your resignation email perfectly, or an infinite number of other obvious scenarios where the scheduling of an email would be useful.
You can access the email scheduling feature by long-pressing on the send button in any email composition window.7: Merge Duplicate Contacts
The iPhone finally has a native ability to merge duplicate contacts.
To access this feature, open the Contacts app, and if any duplicate contacts are found, you will have the option to “View Duplicates” visible at the top of the screen. You can then review the duplicates and merge them.
Cleaning up your address book is now easier than ever before, and no longer requires the trick to use a Mac to accomplish the same task.
