Pair your new M2 Mac mini with an all-time low on Apple Studio Display

Amazon is now offering one of the first chances to save on the recently released Apple Studio Display. Discounting just the base offering, you can now drop the display down to $1,300. Normally you’d pay $1,599, with today’s offer delivering the best discount we have ever seen. On top of just being one of the first offers, it’s a notable $299 off while also beating our previous mention by $199 in order to deliver that Amazon all-time low.

Arriving as a new, more affordable version of the Pro Display XDR, the new Apple Studio Display is designed to pair with everything from the just-released M2 Mac mini and all of the other M1/M2 machines. Measuring 27 inches, the 5K monitor is packed with the latest features from Apple, including a 12MP FaceTime camera backed by Center Stage. The studio-quality mics and six-speaker sound system are balanced by the A13 chip. Around back is a single Thunderbolt 3 port with 96W host charging as well as three downstream USB-C ports for connecting peripherals and the like.

Apple’s Magic Keyboard outfits your 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro

Amazon is now offering the Apple Magic Keyboard for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro at $300 in the more recent white colorway. Normally fetching $349, you’re looking at a $49 discount and the lowest price we’ve seen in nearly two months. This is right around the third-best discount to date and a fairly rare chance to save over the past few months.

24-inch M1 iMac on sale for the first time in months

Delivering the first price cuts in months, Amazon is now marking down Apple’s latest 24-inch M1 iMac to some of the best prices ever. Now starting at $1,100 in several colorways, this is down from the usual $1,299 going rate and the first markdown in several months. The $199 in savings deliver the best we’ve seen from Amazon to go alongside the other configurations we break down below the fold.

Apple’s latest 24-inch iMac arrives with an integrated M1 processor and a sleek design that includes a 4K Retina display with True Tone, as well as a 1080p FaceTime camera. Other notable features include 256GB or more of onboard storage, at least 8GB of RAM, and six speakers capable of supporting Spatial Audio. You’re also looking at the improved 8-core processor and a pair of Thunderbolt ports supplemented by two USB-C slots, as well as Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and Ethernet in the power brick. Get a closer look in our launch coverage.

24-inch M1 iMac models on sale: Philips Hue Smart Outdoor HomeKit Lightstrip sees rare discount to $66

Amazon is now offering the Philips Hue Color Ambiance 7-Foot Outdoor Lightstrip for $66. Normally fetching $130, you’re looking at the second-best price to date at $64 off. This comes within $7 of the all-time low set over Black Friday, and is the first chance to save since.

Perfect for bringing some ambient lighting to your patio ahead of spring, this Philips Hue lightstrip is an easy recommendation for expanding your setup outdoors. It sports a weatherproof design and measures 7 feet in length to bring color illumination to your outdoor space complete with HomeKit, Alexa, and Assistant control via the Hue bridge. I’ve had one of these for quite awhile now and find that it’s a great way to take your setup to the next level.

Spigen OneTap Pro MagSafe Cupholder car mount hits $36

Spigen’s official Amazon storefront now offers its OneTap Pro MagSafe Cupholder Car Mount for $36. Normally fetching $43, you’re looking at the first discount in months to go alongside the $7 in savings. This is the lowest we’ve seen since all the way back in August, and the second-best discount to date.

Comment: Apple, Please Don’t Overthink Your Next External Display

Apple hasn’t made an affordable high quality external display since 2024 when they retired the final iteration of the Thunderbolt Display. The company has a long history of offering the best possible mass market monitors for notebooks and desktops, dating back to the late 90s or the early days of the Studio Display. Apple’s made a lot of weird decisions over the past decade and this certainly falls under that category. Now that the company has started to reboot the Mac and meet the needs of clamoring customers, it’s time for them to step up and make the display we actually need.

Rumors of a new display

Rumors have started to pick up about a new more affordable Apple display that could come this year. Just this morning, Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reported that the company is indeed planning to release a display in 2023 that’s half the price of the Pro Display XDR. But the Pro Display XDR is $6,000-$7,000 leaving this rumored display to be around $3,500 still. This product isn’t what most of us are looking for. It’s not even out yet and most customers in the market for an Apple display have been priced out.

I fear that Apple is overthinking their external display strategy. Not every Apple customer is making multi-million dollar movies or editing professional photography. I know that we’ve all been talking about this for years now, but the answer to this problem is staring us right in the face.

Strip the iMac down

Apple launched the new 24-inch iMac in April of 2023 and it’s proven to be a huge hit for the company. It revived an aging product line that desperately needed attention. It packs a gorgeous 24-inch 4.5K Retina display that has spectacular color reproduction and viewing angles. It also comes in an ultra thin beautiful package. It’s not too big and not too small. It’s arguably the perfect size.

Apple should take the same display that’s in the 24-inch iMac, remove the computer and the chin and ship it as a display. One change I’d make is to the foot, it should be able to move up and down just a bit to match the height of the iMac. The thin bezels make these a great candidate for sticking two together. There’d be very little space between them for your cursor to cross. Like the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, they could offer the display in both silver and space gray. The silver model could have the same light gray bezel as the iMac, while the space gray one could adopt a matching black bezel. You could pick the right color based on your working space or even to match your machine.

Affordable pricing

The iMac starts at just $1,299. That base model comes with a Magic Keyboard ($99) and a Magic Mouse ($79). Right off the bat, you can remove $180 off the price. Apple’s displays don’t need to come bundled with other accessories. Then remove the actual computer. I can’t really say what the computer inside of the iMac would cost, but it’s likely that the display itself is a more expensive component than anything on the motherboard. Apple could probably charge less, but to maintain a healthy margin they could sell their display for just $999. In fact, that’s the price of the last consumer display that was retired in 2024.

That price is the sweet spot and it means that more people could have an Apple-designed display on their desk. There are so many individuals and organizations that have Thunderbolt displays on their last legs, this isn’t a product category for the company to ignore. If Apple were to make a $999 display like this, they’d start to appear all over the place.

Apple’s latest 21-inch iMac offers a more affordable desktop experience for students or users working on light content creation, emailing, and web browsing. Notable specs here include a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 16GB worth of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. There’s both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-A connectivity on the back, along with 802.11ac support, Bluetooth, and more.

iPhone SE is one of the best budget devices

Cricket Wireless offers Apple’s iPhone SE 64GB for $50. Simply switch from a competing service to Cricket. No longterm plans are required. That’s down from the regular $399 price tag and $120 less than our previous pre-paid plan mention.

Headlining is a 4.7-inch Retina display that’s wrapped with slim bezels alongside Touch ID support across the bottom. The backside reverts to a glossy coating that pairs with a new water-resistant design for the first time on Apple’s smaller handset. Inside, you’ll find a battery that supports up to 40 hours of use depending on your usage, but most will find around 14 hours. A 12MP wide-angle camera features ƒ/1.8 aperture and digital zoom up to 5x.

Sonos Beam delivers a compact way to upgrade your TV’s built-in speakers without sacrificing on features. It packs AirPlay 2 functionality alongside built-in Alexa and integration with the rest of the Sonos lineup.

Double Mockup: 12.9″ Ipad Pro + Next

Apple may not be interested in making a full-on television set after all, if Yukari Iwatani Kane’s scathing book, titled Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs (available on the iBooks Store), is anything to go by. Needlees to say, that’s not stopping those mockups from coming.

Take, for instance, German website chúng tôi which today put out an interesting concept envisioning Apple’s rumored oversized iPad, the iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch edge-to-edge screen.

The same outlet previously mocked up a next-generation Apple TV concept sporting an interesting looking remote with touch controls that resembles the iPod touch. Unlike some other crazy concepts, the publication did its homework by basing the renderings on rumor-mill reporting.

Let’s take a look at the iPad Pro concept first.

Back in June of last year, The Wall Street Journal set the tongues wagging by quoting by citing people familiar with Apple’s plans as claiming that the company had been testing a prototype iPad device with a 12.9-inch screen.

The rumor-mill readily picked up the report though recent reporting seemingly suggests that Apple may have put the project on hold. The usually reliable Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, for instance, thinks we won’t see the iPad Pro until 2024 although the company is accelerating development of the device.

And earlier this month, the hit-and-miss DigiTimes claimed Apple had actually shelved the project due to various developmental issues, based on supply chain and channel inventory sources.

A few salient points by

The iPad Pro design is pretty close to its siblings, the iPad mini Retina and iPad Air. Curved corners and a flat back. Sound is provided from speakers that are placed left and right from the Lightning connector.

Touch ID is integrated in the saphire glass protected home button, which was introduced for iPhone 5s.

The screen is 12.9 inch wide and has a 4K-solution with 3,072×2,304 pixels (298 ppi), using LED-backlights and IPS-technology.

Even though it’s wider, it’s still as thin as the iPad Air: 7.5 mm.

The bigger screen with more pixels requires an A8 chipset with 64-bit-architecture.

Apps for the iPad Air are shown optimized by the iPad Pro. Dedicated apps – labelled with “Pro” – use the higher resolution and performance of the all new iPad Pro.

New pencils may fully employ all the features like pressure sensitivity. But don’t hold your breath for a multi button pen made by Apple.

Here’s the full gallery of iPad Pro mockups.

For what it’s worth, I’m not entirely convinced that the iPad Pro makes sense. Even though such a device would no doubt win heats and minds of creative professionals – think touch-optimized Aperture and Final Cut Pro on a 12.9-inch multitouch screen – it would admittedly lack mass-market appeal and Apple rarely caters to niche markets.

And now, on to’s Apple TV concept.

The website is envisioning a 4K resolution-capable next-generation Apple TV thanks to an HDMI 2.0 port, driven by the A7 chip already used in the iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.

“The main attraction is the revamped remote control, completely redesigned as a touch device that might be wirelessly rechargeable via Apple TV,” the story notes, adding you’d still be able to control the set-top box through Apple’s free Remote iOS app.

And here’s the full gallery.

The publication goes on to put DVD Audio, SADC, Dolby Digital Plus, True HD and dts-HD, 32 channel audio and 1536 kHz sample rate on their wish list. We’re of course expecting an Apple TV App Store for games as well, in addition to speedy 802.11ac Wi-Fi networking, Bluetooth and more.

At any rate, these mockups are just that – mockups – so don’t read too much into them as we’re reposting the images here for the discussion’s sake.

Deals: Airpods Pro 2 Land At $200, Apple Pencil 2 All

All of Thursday’s best deals are now up for the taking, courtesy of our pals over at 9to5Toys. On tap today, AirPods 2 have returned with a $49 discount attached to land at the second-best price yet at $200. If you’re looking to upgrade your iPad now that Final Cut Pro has launched, an all-time low has returned on Apple Pencil 2 at $85. Then go shop all of the Apple accessories in Twelve South’s 20% off Memorial Day sale. Hit the jump for all that and more in the latest 9to5Toys Lunch Break.

AirPods Pro 2 with improved ANC lands at $200 (Reg. $249)

Amazon today is offering one of the first chances this year to save on the new AirPods Pro 2. Apple just refreshed its flagship true wireless listening experience last fall, with a handful of discounts set to follow over the past few months. Now on sale for $200, the latest pair of earbuds from Apple arrive with $49 in savings from the usual $249 going rate. That not only marks the second-best price to date at within $1 of the all-time low, but also the lowest we’ve seen in two months since back in March. Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 continue the legacy left by the original pair of the high-end earbuds by delivering one of the most robust listening experiences on the market.

Everything comes centered around one of the hallmarks of the Apple ecosystem, with the H2 chip enabling quick handoff between devices, as well as upgraded audio processing for even more peaceful active noise cancellation. There’s Spatial Audio to throw you right into the center of your favorite album and studio sessions, improved battery life that means the 6 hours of onboard listening is 33% more than the first-generation pair, and a redesigned charging case that delivers MagSafe charging on top of a lanyard loop, Find My access, and an extra 30 hours of play back.

Apple Pencil 2 returns to all-time low of $85

After Apple just launched Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on iPadOS devices earlier in the week, Amazon today is rolling out a fitting markdown on the companion Apple Pencil 2. The popular accessory has been deemed a must-have by practically any iPadOS user, and now you can score an even better price. Typically fetching $129, right now the stylus drops to $85 at Amazon. That’s stacking up to $44 in savings alongside delivering a new all-time low. This is an extra $4 below our previous mention and the first time it has dropped below $89.

Compatible with everything from the just-released iPad Air 5 to the Pro models and even Apple’s compact iPad mini, Apple Pencil 2 elevates the experience be it for drawing, taking handwritten notes, or just getting more precise input. Its refreshed design magnetically snaps onto the side of your device for storage and also in order to recharge for a streamlined package. There’s also the unique new hover features that are rolling out to the new M2 models.

Twelve South’s annual Memorial Day sale is live with 20% off everything

The Memorial Day savings are now beginning to roll in, and Twelve South is the first of our favorite Apple accessory makers to get in on the action. Taking to its own online storefront to kick off its best sale of the year, the company is now taking 20% off everything. There’s no code needed to see the discounted prices, and shipping is free across the board. The last sitewide sale we saw for comparison was back on April Fools’ day at 12% off. A favorite from the sale has one of Twelve South’s newest releases marked down to the best price ever. The new HiRise Pro stand for MacBooks just launched earlier in the year and is now down to $80 from the usual $100 going rate. It’s $2 under our previous mention, still one of the first chances to save, and lower than ever before.

The HiRise Pro MacBook stand is Twelve South’s latest addition to the lineup and can adjust from 2.5 inches all the way up to elevating your machine 6 inches off the desk, with a tilted design. On top of being able to hold everything from M1 MacBook Airs to 16-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro models, there’s also an integrated spot in the base that hides below the metal and vegan leather-trimming for putting a MagSafe charger. This helps streamline your workstation with a hidden iPhone 14 charger. Best of all, this is the second chance to save since first hitting the scene earlier this year and is a new all-time low. We further break down what to expect in our hands-on review.

iOttie’s just-released MagSafe car chargers see first discounts from $35

Amazon today is now discounting two of iOttie’s just-released iPhone 14 accessories for the very first time. Kicking off the savings, the new Velox Pro MagSafe Car Charging Mount falls to $65. It’s down from the usual $75 price tag it just launched with last month, and is landing as the very first discount at $10 off. Arriving as iOttie’s most capable MagSafe car mount yet, the brand starts its latest release off with a dashboard design. It has a suction cup base that adheres to your car and features a swivelling base with adjustable telescoping arm. Affixed to the end is the actual MagSafe mount, which is seeing a big upgrade over previous chargers from iOttie. It now comes equipped with what the brand calls CryoFlow cooling, helping keep your iPhone 14, as well as 13 and 12 series handsets running cooler while charging with the 7.5W magnetic Qi pad. We further break down what to expect from the experience in our launch coverage, too.

On the more affordable side of the new debuts, the iOttie Velox Mini Mount brings much of the same MagSafe features to your car in a more compact design. It normally sells for $40, but is now seeing its very first discount down to $35 courtesy of Amazon. The mount trades in the more flexible design of its dashboard counterpart above, instead opting to rely on an air vent mount design. This lets it rest on any ride’s air vent to position your iPhone 14 within view of the road. It sports 7.5W charging feature, though you will have to supply your own USB-C car charger.

Govee’s just-released HomeKit RGB lightstrip with Matter sees first discount

Earlier in the week, Govee launched its very first smart light strip equipped with Matter support, and now Amazon is pairing that new release with its very first discount. The smart home accessory now sells for $50. That’s down from the usual $60 price tag that it just debuted with, delivering $10 in savings and a new all-time low along the way.

Aside from just being the first accessory in Govee’s stable to arrive with Matter support, the new lightstrip also packs out of the box HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Assistant support. That lets you bring all of the multicolor accent lighting to your prefered digital assistant, with the 6.56-foot strip pairing right to your Wi-Fi. Perfect for making your gaming rig a bit more worthy of the battlestation moniker, this accessory is also notable for just adding some ambiance to shelves, behind a desk, or anywhere else in your home that could using some lighting. We break down the full experience in our launch coverage, which takes a closer look at why this lightstrip is more vibrant than previous Govee releases.
