The GPU is a vital component of your gaming experience, so it’s important to ensure it’s running optimally. However, this may not always happen and sometimes you may find that your game is not using your GPU.

It, therefore, goes without saying that you need a good graphics card especially when running a graphic-intensive game. Sometimes it’s your PC that is unable to detect the GPU or other underlying issues which we shall look at in this article.

Why is a game using 0 GPU?

There are several reasons why you might find your GPU isn’t being used in games. Below are some possible causes:

The game does not require the GPU – Not all games require the GPU to run. Some games only require the CPU so you need not worry in such cases.

Insufficient memory – If your PC is low on memory, your game may not be running properly and you’ll face performance issues.

Outdated OS – It is possible that you’re using a version of Windows that has not been optimized for the game hence the 0 GPU usage. You can upgrade to a Windows edition that’s best for gaming.

Too many programs running – This can happen if you have too many applications open at once and they’re using all your GPU leaving none for your game.

Integrated GPU – Sometimes, running an integrated GPU means it’s not powerful enough to run a game. An integrated GPU has very few features compared to a dedicated GPU, but it’s still capable of running games at a good framerate.

Incorrect/missing drivers – If your computer has missing drivers or incorrect drivers installed, the GPU becomes useless. If this is the case, then you will need to uninstall and reinstall the driver to correct this.

Outdated game – If you are not running the latest version of your game, it is possible that there are some inconsistencies with the current system requirements.

How do I force a game to run on my GPU?

A few preliminary checks before jumping into the slightly technical solutions include:

Check the system requirements for the game and ensure your PC meets or exceeds these requirements.

Ensure that you have enough memory available on your graphics card to run the game. Here’s what to do if your PC is not using all RAM.

Make sure the game uses the correct display settings for your system. These can be found in the options menu or by looking at this list of common display settings.

Check your GPU temperature to ensure it’s not overheating.

1. Upgrade graphic performance settings

Consequently, there’s also another straightforward and faster method of updating your drivers. When you use an automatic tool, you’re able to get the job done faster and avoid any mishaps especially if you’re not sure of the correct driver to install.

Expert tip:

3. Reinstall your graphics card  4. Enable hardware acceleration 5. Use a dedicated GPU  7. Install overclocking software

Overclocking software comes into play when using a dedicated GPU. Such programs enhance the performance of your PC and ensure that your GPU is being used for its intended purposes.

The only downside is that it comes at a cost – instability and high GPU temperature. As such, it is essential that you monitor closely using overclocking test stress software to keep your system secure.

If everything fails, you can reset your GPU especially if you’re facing compatibility issues. Alternatively, it may be time to get yourself a new GPU that’s able to meet today’s modern game system requirements.

And that’s how you ensure that your game is using your GPU to capacity whenever you’re playing games. Let us know of any additional thoughts you may have on this topic down below.

Can I Root My Phone, And More On Rooting.

However, a question which every user who desires to root his device must ask is ‘Is my device rootable?’. The answer to this question for any device depends upon the combination of the OS, manufacturer and the device itself.

Strictly speaking, when we talk about a platform as open as the Android OS, it is almost impossible for a manufacturer to make an ‘un-rootable’ device. Attempts have been made by manufacturers of some devices, such as in the case of the Motorola Droid X, where subsequent updates by the manufacturer have ended up unrooting the device.Nonetheless, it’s almost always a matter of developers finding a new security exploit to enable root-access again.

New devices are seldom ‘un-rootable’ when launched. Over a period of time, developers make root exploits available for these devices. Those devices which are on Operating Systems other than the Android OS may have limits to how much elevated access can be provided to the user.

There is no uniform method to find out if a device can be rooted or not. Apps exist which will allow users to check if their device is rooted or not, such as the Simple Root Checker, but finding out if an exploit has been discovered for your device isn’t as easy. The following three broad procedures may allow the user to find out if there exists a process which will allow him to root his device.

Google it!

As always, Google can save the day. It’s as easy as googling the model number of your device with a ‘How to root’ string attached, which will allow you to find a root exploit. For popular devices, and those which have been rooted, there would be numerous results to choose from. For example, as shown in our attached image, we googled ‘How to root N7100’ and established that many search results are found containing the necessary information.

Search on popular Forums

Forums are websites where discussions related to specific topics can be held by users who have interests in these topics. Luckily for smartphone users, numerous such forums exist where information related to their smartphones/tablets etc can be easily found.

It is very easy to learn rooting procedures for your device on these forums, or even to ask questions and start discussions associated with your device. Some other popular smartphone forums similar to XDA are AndroidCentral forums, AndroidForums, iMore forums etc.

Root Tools

There exist some software tools and app, which work on multiple device models and can thus be used to test the root exploit availability and root the device in one go. However, these tools do not merely give you the information regarding the availability of root exploits, they directly root the device, and therefore should be used only when the user is aware of the existing risks and is absolutely positive about rooting his device.

Different manufacturers using different operating systems have varying processes to root their devices. Let us consider the case of the two most popular mobile operating systems and analyse the general methods used to root them.

Android OS

Rooting Android operating systems is fairly popular, implying that exploits can be easily found for popular Android Devices and for many of the obscure ones too. Essentially rooting an Android device includes flashing a custom recovery image.

This modified firmware update will typically include the utilities required to run apps with root access. The rooting procedure would also install a typical supervisor application, such as the SuperSU app, which can be allowed to monitor and provide root access to applications.

Apple iOS

A process used as iOS ‘Jailbreaking’ is used to provide administrator-level access on iOS devices, which is different in principle from rooting in two ways. Firstly, iOS systems have a strictly locked Boot loaders, which is not the case with Android devices where Boot loaders are either open or easily unlockable.

Jailbreaking for the iOS thus also involves completely unlocking the Bootloader. Other than this difference, the iOS does not allow unsigned apps to be installed on iOS while on the Android OS unsigned apps can be installed after checking the ‘Unknown Sources’ option from Security settings.

Therefore, Jailbreaking for the iOS typically involves unlocking the boot loader, providing Administrator rights, and allowing installation of unsigned apps from sources other than the Apple App Store.

The future of rooting depends a lot upon the manufacturers and consumer interest. Apple and Microsoft do not promote rooting – Google on the other hand releases open source codes which can be used by any developer, and promotes rooting both through its devices and through open source projects. HTC, Sony, Asus etc. explicitly provide the user with the ability to unlock devices and replace/modify the OS.

A vast majority of smartphone users and all over the world believe that rooting is completely a personal choice of the owner of the device, and manufacturers should have no say in it, nor should they be allowed to prevent the user from modifying a device he owns. In most countries, India amongst them, Rooting/Jailbreaking smartphones for personal usage is an entirely legal procedure. Therefore, smartphone users in India can seek and implement root exploits and enjoy the benefits of elevated access and permissions on their devices without any concerns.

How To Fix Game Stuttering On A Windows Pc

While gaming on Windows, it’s not uncommon to run into complications that hinder your experience. For instance, games often stutter due to various issues, and it can be a difficult task to get things running smoothly again. This guide provides you with practical solutions to fix game stuttering on Windows PCs in a jiffy.

Good to know: check out these tips on how to prolong battery life while gaming on a laptop.

Quick Fixes to Get Started

Before proceeding to the issue-specific solutions, we recommend trying these easy fixes first:

Install the latest Windows updates: updating your Windows system can often fix the issues that are causing game stuttering. We recommend installing any pending updates before trying any of the other methods described in this post.

Update your graphics drivers: your system’s graphics drivers play an essential role in running games smoothly. If your system is running an outdated or buggy version of GPU drivers, update them to the latest version.

Reinstall your graphics drivers: a faulty installation of graphics drivers may be what’s causing your games to stutter. We recommend uninstalling graphics drivers completely, then reinstalling the latest (or stable) version manually.

If you followed these suggestions, and the issue persists, continue with the following fixes.

1. Set the Game Graphics Settings Appropriately

If you’re running a game on higher graphics settings than your system can handle, you will inevitably face game stuttering. Before proceeding, check the minimum (and recommended) system requirements to see whether your PC is up to the challenge. At the same time, you should set the right graphics settings for any games with issues to avoid stutters.

Open the game on which you’re experiencing stuttering.

Set a graphics preset that’s right for your hardware, or manually set options like “Texture Quality” and more.

Also, turn off settings like “Anti-Aliasing” and “Motion Blur” to have a smoother experience on low-end hardware.

Tip: is buying a dedicated gaming laptop really worth it in 2023? Find out the answer.

2. Turn Off the Xbox Game Bar

Windows’s built-in Xbox Game Bar can cause conflicts with various games and ultimately causes stutters, followed by low FPS. Fortunately, you can disable Xbox Game Bar from Windows Settings. To completely be rid of the conflicts due to Game Bar, you will also need to ensure that automatic captures are toggled off.

Use the Win + I keyboard shortcut to open Windows Settings.

Further, turn off the “Open Xbox Game Bar” option in the top left.

Go back to the previous screen (Gaming tab) and select the “Captures” option.

Disable the “Record what happened” option.

Restart your computer to check whether the problem goes away.

3. Enable V-Sync

Vertical Sync, or V-Sync for short, is an option in games that matches the game FPS to your display’s refresh rate so that you can often fix any game stuttering issues you may be facing.

To enable it in-game, navigate to the game’s video settings, and toggle the V-Sync option. At the same time, you can enable V-Sync from your GPU app to have it turned on for all games. These steps demonstrate how to enable the feature using the NVIDIA Control Panel app.

Open Windows Search, and search for “NVIDIA Control Panel.” Select the best match below.

Close NVIDIA Control Panel, launch the game that’s stuttering, and check whether the problem persists.

4. Disable Startup Applications

Most Windows PCs have several startup applications enabled that automatically launch every time you’re booting your computer. We recommend disabling the automatic startup for applications that don’t always need to be running to improve gaming performance.

Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to launch the Task Manager.

From the left navigation pane, select the “Startup apps” option. If you’re running Windows 10, select the “Startup” option from the top navigation bar.

Repeat the previous step to disable all unimportant apps.

Close Task Manager, and restart your PC to check whether anything has changed.

5. Reinstall Windows

The quality of a Windows installation has a significant impact on the overall system performance, including games. A bad install will negatively affect all apps and may cause game stuttering on top of poor system performance and occasional slowdowns. Likewise, if your PC often runs into errors or has sluggish performance, you should consider a fresh installation to keep your PC in an optimal state for the best experience.

Use Microsoft’s Media Creation tool or create a bootable USB drive to reinstall Windows on your system.

Tip: if your Windows machine is facing slowdowns and low performance, you may want to consider cleaning up and freeing up your Windows “C” drive.

Fixing Game Stuttering on Windows

It’s often difficult to pinpoint the root cause of game stuttering issues on Windows PCs. However, trying the fixes we discussed in this guide should help you overcome this problem so that you can enjoy an overall smooth gaming experience. To avoid such issues in the future, we recommend keeping your PC up to date, only keeping the applications that you need, and running scans for optimal performance. Likewise, you may want to learn to optimize your Windows PC for gaming to get the best possible gaming performance if you play many games on it.

How Do I Input A String From The User In Python?

In Python, there are several ways to input a string from the user. The most common method is by using the built-in function input(). This function allows the user to enter a string, which is then stored as a variable for use in the program.

Example

Here’s an example of how to input a string from the user in Python −

# Define a variable to store the input name = input("Please enter your name: ") # Print the input print("Hello, " + name + "! Good to see you.")

Output

The above code generates the following output for us −

Please enter your name: Max Hello, Max! Good to see you.

In the code above, we have,

Define a variable to store the input − name = input(“Please enter your name: “)

In this step, a variable named “name” is created to store the input from the user.

Prompt the user to enter their name − input(“Please enter your name: “)

The “input()” function is used to display a message to the user, asking them to enter their name. The message, “Please enter your name: “, is passed as an argument to the function.

Store the user’s input in the “name” variable − name = …

The result of the “input()” function call is stored in the “name” variable. This means that the user’s input is now stored in the “name” variable, ready to be used.

Print the input − print(“Hello, ” + name + “! Good to see you.”)

In this step, the “print()” function is used to display a message to the user, using the value stored in the “name” variable. The message, “Hello, [name]! Good to see you.”, is passed as an argument to the function. The value of “name” is concatenated with the rest of the string using the “+” operator.

It’s crucial to remember that the output of the “input()” function will always be a string, even if the user enters a numerical value. If you need to use the input as a number, you’ll need to convert it to the appropriate data type (e.g. int or float).

Example

Here’s an example of how to input a number from the user −

# Define a variable to store the input age = int(input("Please enter your age: ")) # Print the input print("Wow, you are " + str(age) + " years old!")

Output

The above code generates the following output for us −

Please enter your age: 24 Wow, you are 24 years old!

From the above code,

A variable named “age” is created to store the input from the user.

The message, “Please enter your age: “, is passed as an argument to the function.

Since the “input()” function always returns a string, we need to convert the user’s input to an integer using the “int()” function. This allows us to store the user’s input as a number, rather than a string.

The result of the “int()” function call is stored in the “age” variable.

The “print()” function is used to display a message to the user, using the value stored in the “age” variable. The message, “Wow, you are [age] years old!”, is passed as an argument to the function. The value of “age” is first converted to a string using the “str()” function and then concatenated with the rest of the string using the “+” operator.

It’s also possible to assign a default value to the input, in case the user doesn’t provide any input. This can be done using the “or” operator and a default value −

Example # Define a variable to store the input name = input("Please enter your name (or press enter for default): ") or "Max" # Print the input print("Hello, " + name + "! Good to see you.")

Output

The above code generates the following output for us −

Please enter your name (or press enter for default): Hello, Max! Good to see you.

Here in the code above,

A variable named “name” is created to store the name input by the user.

The message, “Please enter your name (or press enter for default) − “, is passed as an argument to the function.

The or operator is used to set a default value for the name variable. If the user presses enter without entering a name, the input() function will return an empty string. If the user’s input is an empty string, the or operator will evaluate to the default value, “Max”.

The result of the input() function call, or the default value “Max” is stored in the name variable.

A personalized greeting is printed, using the name variable. The + operator is used to concatenate the string values, creating a single string to be printed.

Conclusion

To summarize, receiving a string from a user in Python is a simple task that can be accomplished by making use of the readily available “input()” method. Regardless of whether you need to collect a string or a numerical value, it is effortless to convert the input into a suitable data type and save it in a variable for future reference.

The “input()” method is a convenient tool for obtaining information from a user and storing it for later use in your code.
