Suggested April 2024 How Game Account Hackers Turn A Profit

Game account hacking is nothing new. As long as people have had online game accounts, there have been others keen to crack their security and get into it. Did you know, however, that people can actually turn a profit from hacking game accounts? This makes game hacking more than just a malicious way to steal others’ accounts; it’s potentially a way to turn a large profit!

How Can Hackers Make Money?

This may seem a little weird: after all, why would people care about an in-game account? Surely anyone who owns a copy of the game already has their own account – why would anyone want to steal one?

Invested Hours

Things become a little easier to understand when you realise that different accounts hold different weights to them. For instance, let’s say two people have an account for an online RPG. One person has just made their account, while the other has been playing for years and has a lot of levels under their belt.

The latter player has a higher value on their account than the former in terms of invested hours. At the same time, their account is more desirable and will fetch a higher price if sold on the black market.

Rare Items

Some online games have rare items that players can collect. For instance, Fortnite has cosmetic items that are very valuable to players. As such, hackers are keen to crack open Fortnite accounts and sell the goods online.

Items can be earned through luck, effort, or money, depending on the game. Either way, items have an intrinsic value to them, and hard-to-acquire items will command higher price tags.

What Do Hackers Do with the Accounts?

Because these accounts have a value to them, hackers will often sell them on the black market for real money. They’re typically sold to people who have played the game but don’t want to put in the work or the effort to reach the end results. For instance, if someone really enjoys an online RPG but doesn’t want to level their character to the maximum level, they can go online and buy a hacked account that’s leveled up.

Do They Make a Lot of Money?

Potentially! Hackers tend to attack accounts at random. Instead of locating a valuable account and trying to crack it, they’ll brute-force a wide selection of accounts and hope that the ones they get into are valuable.

If they do manage to get ahold of valuable accounts, they could turn a very tidy profit with them. The BBC reported that teen hackers made “thousands a week” by hacking Fortnite accounts. Because Fortnite items are so desirable, they can sell accounts for hundreds of pounds to eager players.

Are All Sold Accounts Hacked?

Not all! Some accounts are simply owned by players who are tired of the game and want to make a profit from the time spent on the game. However, even if someone is willingly giving up their account, the game’s developers may have rules against purchasing accounts. As such, people who buy accounts may find themselves banned from the game due to account selling.

Game On

Making a profit as a video-game-account hacker may sound strange, but it’s very much real! With gamers wanting to shortcut their way into levels and items, hackers will always have a use for compromised accounts. Now you know why hackers target game accounts.

Would you ever consider buying a game account on the black market? Let us know below.

Hackers Turn A Canon Eos Camera Into A Remote Surveillance Tool

The high-end Canon EOS-1D X camera can be hacked for use as a remote surveillance tool, with images remotely downloaded, erased and uploaded, a researcher said during the Hack in the Box security conference in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

The digital SLR camera has a ethernet port and also supports wireless connection via a WLAN adapter. That connectivity is particularly useful for photojournalists who can quickly upload the photos to a FTP server or a tablet, according to German security researcher Daniel Mende of ERNW.

However, the camera’s connectivity was not designed with security in mind, said Mende. “If a photographer uses an insecure network like a hotel Wi-Fi network or a Starbucks network, than almost anybody with a little bit of knowledge is able to download images from the camera,” he said.

Easy attack route

The camera can be accessed by attackers in a number of ways, Mende said. Because FTP upload mode sends information in clear text, credentials and the complete data transmission can be sniffed, so uploaded pictures can be extracted from the network traffic, Mende said.

The camera also has an DNLA (Digital Living Network Alliance) mode that allows the sharing of media between devices and requires no authentication and has no restrictions, Mende said. DNLA uses the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) networking protocols for discovery, and media can be accessed via HTTP and XML in DNLA mode, he said.

“In this mode, the camera fires up like a network server,” Mende said, adding that every DNLA client can download all images from the camera. Because a browser can serve as a DNLA client, it’s relatively easy to do this, he said. “In this mode, it is also not hard to get your fingers on the footage, you just have to browse to the camera and download all images you like.”

The camera also has a built-in web server called WFT server that does have authentication, he said. But the authentication method used has a 4-byte session ID cookie that can easily be overcome via brute force with six lines of Python script, said Mende.

“Checking all IDs takes about 20 minutes because the web server is not that responsive,” Mende said. But whoever figures out the ID can get access to stored photos on the device and to camera settings, he said. “You could for instance make yourself the author of a photo. That would come in handy when you try to sell them,” Mende said.

Alternate hack

Attackers can also gain remote access to the camera’s EOS Utility Mode, which comes closest to gaining root access on the camera, Mende said. The utility mode allows users to wirelessly control the camera through Canon’s EOS Utility software interface, which provides Live View functionality, movie mode, and the ability to wirelessly transfer images from a camera to a remote computer.

Accessing the camera in that mode wasn’t as easy as gaining control via FTP or the session ID, according to Mende.

To access the mode, an attacker has to listen for the camera’s GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) that is broadcasted obfuscated.

The attacker than needs to de-obfuscate the authentication data, disconnect the connected client software, and connect to the camera using the PTP/IP protocol, or picture transfer protocol that is used to transfer images to connected devices, according to Mende’s presentation.

“We not only can download all the taken pictures, we can also get a more or less live stream from the camera,” Mende said. “We’ve successfully made the camera into a surveillance device.”

Attackers are also able to upload pictures to the camera in Utility mode, he said.

Canon has not fixed the vulnerabilities yet, according to Mende, who said he wasn’t able to find anyone at Canon willing to listen to him. “The camera is designed to work exactly like this. From Canon’s point of view, there is probably no bug,” Mende said.

“[But] people who use the camera should be aware of this. That’s why I’m standing here today without speaking to Canon,” he told conference attendees.

Canon EOS-1D X owners should take countermeasures to prevent the attacks from succeeding, said Mende. They should only enable network connections in trusted networks, he said. And users should always use a secure password for trusted WLAN networks, he said.

How To Delete A Tiktok Account

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat—few apps get to reach the number of users and level of recognition that these social media pioneers have among the general population. One of the few to break through, however, is TikTok, the video social media platform now loved by millions of users.

While TikTok is a new and fun platform, it certainly has its problems. Concerns about potential links to the Chinese government, as well as a number of privacy and safety concerns on the platform, are enough for some users to want to jump ship. If you’re thinking about how to delete a TikTok account, here’s what you’ll need to know.

Table of Contents

Why Should You Delete TikTok?

TikTok might be a favorite of Gen Z, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely free of problems. There are a number of reasons why you may wish to delete TikTok or, at the very least, beef up your security settings.

One of the biggest concerns is over privacy, especially over how much data TikTok records about its users. When you sign up, TikTok requires your email address, phone number, and (potentially) a link to other social media accounts. It also requires app permissions for user location, access to your contacts, and more.

If you’re worried about your online privacy, these permissions are frightening. There are also known security issues, with reported flaws in 2023 that would allow hackers to gain complete control over a TikTok account.

Some of these concerns (especially about privacy) aren’t new to social media, with Facebook users seeing similar issues. You can check how TikTok handles the data in your region by reading the TikTok privacy policy for the United States, European Economic Area (including Switzerland and the UK), or for all other regions.

If you’re keen to avoid sharing this amount of data, you’re unsure whether TikTok’s security is up-to-scratch, or you’re just not a fan of the platform, you can delete your TikTok account using the steps below.

Uninstalling the TikTok App

Before you delete your account entirely, there is another option. Uninstalling TikTok won’t stop your account from existing, but it can give you time to consider your options and think about whether you want to use TikTok in the future.

For users that use TikTok without an account, deleting the app will ensure that TikTok can’t record any other additional information about you, including information about your device or location.

Android users can remove the TikTok app by selecting and holding the app icon in their app drawer, then selecting the Uninstall option. Alternatively, search for TikTok in the Google Play Store, then select the Uninstall option.

For iPhone and iPad users, removing the TikTok app is the same as any other app removal. To do this, select and hold the TikTok icon on their home screen, then select the Delete App option from the pop-up menu.

Deleting a TikTok Account on Mobile Devices

If you don’t have your own TikTok videos saved locally, you may want to download them first.

To delete your TikTok account, open the app on your device and make sure you’re signed in. Using the menu bar at the bottom, tap the Me option.

In your TikTok profile menu, tap the three-dots menu icon in the top-right corner.

In the Settings and privacy menu, tap the Manage account option.

You can change various account settings, including your saved email address and password, in the Manage account menu. To delete your account, however, tap the Delete account option.

TikTok will alert you that deleting your account will result in your profile being wiped and any saved or uploaded videos being removed. Tap Continue to proceed with the deletion.

Once you’ve confirmed your account deletion, you’ll have a 30 day grace period. If you want to reverse the deletion, sign back in using your account details—TikTok will restore your account. However, after 30 days, the deletion is irreversible, and you’ll need to create a new TikTok account to use the platform again.

Deleting a TikTok Account on PC or Mac

Unfortunately, there isn’t an official method for deleting your TikTok account on a PC or Mac. While you can use TikTok on a PC, the browser-based version of the platform is quite basic and doesn’t offer you the ability to control your account or change any settings (including deleting your account).

One option is to potentially use an Android emulator on your PC. Emulators simulate the hardware of an Android PC, allowing you to use certain apps like TikTok on your PC without a device. However, some apps do detect emulators and block them from working to avoid spam and abuse issues.

The best (and only official) way to delete your account is via the TikTok app on a mobile device, but if you’re struggling, you may be able to request deletion by contacting TikTok directly.

Reporting a Hacked TikTok Account

The steps above assume that you have control over your TikTok account to delete it. However, if your account is compromised and you’re trying to delete it without full control, you’ll need to regain control or get in touch with TikTok’s support team.

There are a few ways to do this. If you’re still signed in to your account in the TikTok app, you can change your password (logging out other users) by selecting Me in the app menu. From your user profile, select the three-dots menu icon.

In the Settings and privacy menu, tap Manage account.

In the Manage account menu, update your password and other settings to ensure you have control over your account. This will log other devices (including hackers) out of your account.

Once your account is secure, return to the Setting and privacy menu and follow the steps above to delete your account. If you’re having trouble doing this (or if you can’t change your account email, password, or other settings), but you’re still signed in, select the Report a problem option in the Settings and privacy menu.

In the Feedback and help menu, select the Create Ticket icon in the top-right corner.

In the Your support tickets menu, explain your problem in the box provided, explaining that you’ve lost control over your account and that you’d like access to be restored (or for your account to be deleted).

For users who can’t use the TikTok app at all (because a hacker has removed their access), you can report the problem and request account deletion via TikTok’s legal feedback page.

Using TikTok Safely

Despite the privacy concerns, there’s a lot to like about TikTok, with an approach to social media that hasn’t been seen or successfully replicated since Twitter’s now-defunct Vine service shut down. If you’re keen to make your mark on TikTok, you’ll need some top TikTok marketing tips to help you go viral.

How To Turn Your Ipad Into A Mac

For many consumers these days, a Mac of any type can be a really difficult purchase to make. Some individuals find the price too difficult to look past. This makes some people feel that there are no alternatives toward getting a Mac, with some refurbished models still considered quite high. However, there is a great alternative to purchasing a Mac – get an iPad. Today, we will go over the steps to make an iPad the best Mac alternative that it can possibly be. From products to applications, you can find yourself with a “Mac-Pad” in no time.

The Hardware

A great option to look into is Apple’s refurbished service. Many consumers cringe at the sight of the word, refurbished, but it is really not as bad as you may think. Refurbished, for those who don’t know, simply is when a gadget is returned to Apple and prepared for resell. This can range on the best side as a consumer wanting a different color iPad, and on the worst side, it being an iPad with a glitch that was fixed like new by Apple.

It’s important to remember that you aren’t really sacrificing anything with such a purchase. For $419 currently for a regular $499 iPad with WiFi and 16GB, you are saving some money. In addition, Apple has the previous model, the iPad, that garners even more deals. In addition, it’s important to remember that the iPad 3 is expected to at least be announced in the coming month. With reports of the possibility that Apple will keep the iPad 2 on the market at a lower price, you can find yourself with a better deal if you wait a bit longer.

The Cases: ZaggMate and ZaggFolio

The most important aspect of using your iPad as a Mac is to have the right casing. At the moment, the best company providing the most authentic iPad keyboard casing is Zagg. They have two models, the ZaggMate for the iPad 1 and the ZaggFolio for the iPad 2. Both models use Bluetooth to connect your iPad with the keyboard. The iPad itself is supported on a built-in stand, offering a laptop-feel angle. The case also has iPad specific keys and access to iPad controls like silence and volume rocker. If the $99 price tag is a little much for you, Apple also offers bluetooth keyboards for $49.99. These are the same keyboards used for iMacs, offering the exact feel as a desktop. However, you must purchase a case separately, which in the end will equal out the price.

The Applications

In addition to the hardware, you must also have the software for your iPad to match. The exact software you would need differs. Here is a nice list of almost every application on my Mac right now that has an iPad equivalent. I found a match for just about each application.

Skype for iPad

This is the obvious replacement of my Skype for Mac. All of the key features are still present with the iPad version. All you have to do is sign in with your Skype account and you can get a call started in no time. Individuals with the iPad 2 will be able to have a video conference with the iPad version of this application as well. You can hold calls with both other Skype for iPad users and Skype for Mac users (and Windows). If you want to make it into a mobile phone, a feature your laptop can’t do out of the box, then you can pay a bit more and enable landline calling with Skype. This is a Skype for Mac feature as well.

iMovie for iPad

I’m a bit surprised at how many people don’t know about iMovie for iOS, but it does exist. iMovie for iOS offers many of the same features that is on the Mac. All you have to do is drag and drop media into the timeline, tap and drag to extend or shorten clips. With an addition of photos and music, you can create a great project right on your iPad. Want to narrate a funny event? No problem, just tap to record audio, and then add it into your project. Once done, you can export your high definition project to YouTube and various other social networking websites.

Pages for iPad

Pages for iPad allows you to create beautiful documents for print and sharing on your iPad. Apple offer you with various beautiful templates to create a unique document. You can add text, change color, and even add some photos to brighten up the document. Interrupted while making your creation? No problem, iCloud will save everything you were doing and will allow you to continue when you can. You can also create charts within the application, allowing you to show the data in your paper in a much better way. Once done, you can export you document to various word processing programs, even including Word, or you can make it available online for viewing. At $9.99, this is a much economical option compared to Microsoft Office for Mac.

Keynote for iPad

Keynote is Pages for iPad’s friendly cousin. Where Pages excels in documents, Keynote impresses with slideshows and power points. You can create amazing presentations right from your iPad with Keynote for iPad. Just like with Pages, Keynote allows you to use various templates, add images and text, and even add other types of media into your project. You can have your project on an automatic loop or have it manually change slides. Your presentation can be exported afterwards to Powerpoint, as a PDF, and more. If you want a desktop quality presentation on your iPad, Keynote is for you.

Internet Service

The subject that differs the iPad from a laptop is the subject of Internet. The iPad has the option out of the box to either have a Wi-Fi or 3G option. A majority of modern laptops only have the option of Wi-Fi. Unless you have a data card, this is usually the only option you are presented with when on your laptop.

How To Turn Your Galaxy Smartphone Into A Hotspot

A mobile hotspot is an invaluable connectivity option when you need internet access quickly but can’t get on Wi-Fi. Turning your Galaxy smartphone into a mobile hotspot takes less than a minute and will allow you to connect multiple devices, including laptops, Chromebooks and tablets.

Your own private Wi-Fi access point

When you turn your smartphone into a mobile hotspot, you are essentially creating your own Wi-Fi access point using your phone’s mobile data. If you don’t have access to Wi-Fi or don’t want to connect to unsecure public Wi-Fi networks, turning on your mobile hotspot can let you (and those you choose to invite) stay connected and productive on your other computing devices. However, it’s important to limit who can connect to your hotspot by using a password so someone else doesn’t burn through all your mobile data or try to intercept sensitive information passing through the hotspot.

Turning on mobile hotspot

On the latest Galaxy devices, including the Samsung S22 series and Samsung Z series smartphones, turning on the mobile hotspot feature is as simple as pulling down your Quick Panel and tapping Mobile Hotspot. On Galaxy S22 Ultra and Z Fold4, you can even use the Samsung S Pen to do so. On some earlier Galaxy devices, you may need to open Settings and tap into the Connections menu.

Configure your mobile hotspot

If you are using the feature for the first time, open the Mobile Hotspot menu to configure your settings before turning your hotspot on. Here are some recommended steps to configure your hotspot:

Change the name of your hotspot to make it easily recognizable to you and anyone you plan to invite to use it.

Unless you want everybody nearby to have access to your hotspot, you should set a strong password that will be required for any devices attempting to connect. While you can change security from WPA2 to “open,” it’s strongly recommended to keep a password on your hotspot to protect you and any friends or colleagues connecting. As WPA3 support becomes more widespread, consider opting for that upgraded security protocol.

The latest Galaxy devices have an Auto Hotspot feature that allows you to automatically share your phone’s internet connection with other devices signed into your Samsung account or part of your account’s family group. You can invite specific people to join that group.

Another helpful configuration is to set a timeout on your hotspot to preserve battery life and enhance security. This can be accessed in the options menu at the top right. The hotspot will turn off after a designated period of time during which there are no connected devices.

For extra security, you can hide your hotspot so other users can’t try to connect to it. This setting is found in the options menu under Configure Mobile Hotspot.

Sharing your mobile hotspot

In addition to using the family sharing feature within Auto Hotspot, you can also quickly share mobile hotspot access using a QR code. Once your hotspot is turned on, just tap the QR code icon at the top right and your colleague or friend can scan it on their device. With the QR code, they’ll be able to connect immediately, without even entering your password.

Wi-Fi tethering

Many Galaxy devices also enable Wi-Fi sharing. Although you may primarily use a mobile hotspot when you don’t have Wi-Fi access, there may be instances where your device is connected to Wi-Fi and you want to share that connectivity with other devices. One benefit of Wi-Fi sharing via your phone is that you do not have to directly share the original Wi-Fi access point’s password. To do this, go into the options menu at the top right and turn on Wi-Fi Sharing.

Using a mobile hotspot for business

Mobile hotspots can keep employees productive while on the go. For example, if you send a field worker to visit an offsite building, they can easily stay connected to the main office with a mobile hotspot. Even if they go to a location without Wi-Fi access, they can set up a mobile hotspot in a few steps and continue working online as if nothing is different. This equates to less downtime and backtracking in the short term and higher levels of productivity in the long run.

How To Use A Kindle Without An Amazon Account

Kindle devices are actually pretty cheap in comparison with many mainstream tablets. If you’re looking for a less expensive tablet or want to read non-Kindle ebooks, you really don’t need to connect your Amazon account. While Amazon wants you to in order to buy a Kindle-full of ebooks and magazines, you can use your Kindle without an Amazon account.

Why Should You Use a Kindle Without an Amazon Account?

When you first use a Kindle, you’re asked to connect or create an Amazon account. One of the reasons Kindles are cheaper is that Amazon offers them at a discount with the hope you’ll spend money on Kindle ebooks, apps, magazines, and more. You may even subscribe to Kindle Unlimited.

However, you can actually skip this step. If you just need a basic tablet for reading free ebooks or ebooks from other sites and services, you can still use a Kindle. After all, they are designed specifically for reading.

If you don’t connect your Amazon account, you won’t be so tempted to spend money every time Amazon has a discount ebook deal. Plus, Amazon won’t be tracking your reading habits to personalize your account.

Another benefit is you can easily give a kid a cheaper Kindle, or even an older device, to serve as a low-cost tablet for school or entertainment. Without an account, they’re not making purchases without your permission. This is also a great way to give a friend or family member your old Kindle for use.

What Can You Do without an Amazon Account?

Before you use a Kindle without an Amazon account, know the limitations. Without an account, you can’t buy or access Kindle ebooks and freebies. All the Kindle reader features that are specific to just Kindle books (such as interactive features provided by the author) won’t work. Instead, you’ll just have a standalone e-reader and tablet.

You also won’t have access to the Amazon App Store. Instead, you’ll need to sideload apps from a third party. Additionally, some of Amazon’s preinstalled apps won’t work.

Open the menu in the top-right corner and tap “Settings.” Choose “Security & Privacy.”

Select “Install unknown apps” and choose Silk Browser.

Toggle “Allow from this source” to On.

How to Prevent Signing into Amazon During Setup

If this is a new Kindle or one that’s already been deregistered from another account (more on that later), this is a simple way to skip the account registration step.

You’re asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network immediately so that you have Internet access to connect to Amazon. Select “Setup Wi-Fi Later.”

If you already connected to your Wi-Fi network before you read this section, don’t worry. Turn off your router temporarily, restart your Kindle, and repeat the above.

Deregister an Amazon Account

If you no longer want your Amazon account linked to your Kindle or have a secondhand Kindle, deregister the existing Amazon account.

Start the Kindle as usual, open the menu at the top right, and tap “Settings.” Select “Your Account.”

Tap “Deregister Device.”

Tap “Deregister.”

This leaves the Kindle without an account.

Finding Ebooks for Your Kindle

While you won’t be accessing Amazon’s store for ebooks, you’re free to download documents and ebooks from other sources. Upload personal files and ebooks you already have on your computer, such as PDFs, EPUBs, docs, and more.

Amazon has numerous free Kindle ebooks to download, but you don’t have to give up free books even when you use your Kindle without an Amazon account. There is a wide variety of platforms that offer free ebooks to use on any device.

We already have two great lists of free ebook resources (though both do include Amazon as an option, so you can skip over that one). First, check out our list of 10 ebook download libraries. Second, if your Kindle is for a child, try our list of the best sites to find free ebooks for kids.

Another great option is your local library. All you need is a library card to borrow ebooks. Your library has to be partnered with an online service first, though. OverDrive and Hoopla are the most common. They’re free to use. There’s also SimplyE, which goes through The New York Public Library. Check with your library to see if they have any free digital options available.

Another option is to get free, discounted, or regular-priced ebooks from other bookstores, such as Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and chúng tôi (Use the app only on Kindle Fire or download the non-DRM content.) You can sideload the store’s reading app, if compatible, to read purchased books from a different marketplace.

Wherever you download books from, make sure to do it legally. Don’t download copyrighted books from shady sites, or you could end up with malware on your device, corrupting all your books.

Kindle File Format Support

Natively, Kindle devices support the following file formats:

AZW and AZW3: proprietary Amazon file type. Amazon is switching to AZW3 for most Kindle books, slowly replacing AZW and MOBI.

MOBI: a file type developed by Mobipocket. This is just as common as AZW and AZW3 for Kindle books.

TXT: a simple text document format.

PDF: Adobe’s portable document format, which many DRM-free ebooks, documents, and other content are formatted in already.

As you may notice, the popular EPUB format isn’t compatible with Kindle devices, but don’t worry – you just have to convert the file first for it to work fine with your Kindle.

Converting Files for Kindle

You have several great options for converting files for Kindle devices. The most powerful and useful by far is Calibre. Not only does it help you convert files, but it’s an ebook library management software for desktops and mobile devices. You can use it keep track of your files and transfer items from your desktop to your Kindle. For the purposes of this post, I’ll be using Calibre for converting and transferring files to a Kindle.

However, several other options you may prefer to try include:

Ebook Converter (Android-only): quick and easy way to convert free and DRM-free ebooks for Kindle.

File Converter (iOS / Android): Great overall file converter. It’s not just for ebooks. It handles a variety of document formats, images, videos, CAD drawings, and more. It’ll also compress files. I’d recommend this if you need a converting tool that can handle most anything.

Online-Convert: ideal if you want to convert ebooks online without downloading any software. Only DRM-free files are supported, of course. You only have to sign up (which is free) if you want to save your conversion settings for future use.

Setting Up Calibre to Work with Kindle

While the other tools I mentioned are great for converting ebooks, that’s all they do. They don’t offer the option to transfer to your Kindle or keep track of your files. If you’re like me and have an overflowing ebook library on your computer, you need a way to manage the chaos. It also lets you transfer ebooks to your Kindle device.

Start by downloading Calibre on the system of your choice. It’s available for Windows (32-bit/64-bit), macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and as a portable version for USB drives. The latter works well to take Calibre with you to use on other computers.

Launch the installation wizard and choose a location for your Calibre library. It’s fine to keep the default. Alternatively, you can set up a cloud-based library.

Select the ebook device you want to use with Calibre.

If this ever changes, just run the Welcome Wizard again from the “Preferences” tab of Calibre. Choose “Amazon” from the Manufacturers list, then choose your device. Kindle Basic works well as a generic option.

You can set up Calibre to send books to your device via email using your Kindle email (which you don’t have since you don’t have an Amazon account). Skip this step for now and just choose “Next.”

You’ll see a Congratulations message and can start using Calibre.

Convert and Transfer With Calibre Software

When you open Calibre the first time, you’ll need to add your books. I’m using the Windows desktop version, so your interface may look slightly different, but the steps should be similar.

Go to “Add Books” and select the books you want to add. You can select as many books as you want at one time.

Either convert one or multiple Calibre ebooks at once. Select “Convert books.” If you use the arrow beside Convert Books, you can choose the Bulk option.

I’ll keep it simple and just convert one at the moment. I’m converting an EPUB to AWZ3. In the conversion window, select “AWZ3” from the “Output format” drop-down box.

Make any necessary changes. For most ebooks, you probably won’t have to do anything unless any details are wrong, such as the title or author. Then, press “OK.”

Choose where you want to save your newly converted book, and you’re done. But, of course, that doesn’t get the ebooks on your Kindle – yet.

Transfer Calibre Ebooks to Kindle

Now that your ebooks are in the correct format, it’s time to move them to Kindle. There are three main methods that don’t involve using email.

USB Cable

When you’re finished, expand the “Device” tab and choose “Eject device,” then enjoy your ebooks on your Kindle.

Content Server

By using the content server method, you don’t need a USB cable. You’ll just need to use the same Wi-Fi connection for both the device using Calibre and your Kindle.

Open your Kindle’s browser and enter the IP address and port number in the address bar in the following format:

192.168.1.210:8080

This lets you browse books in your Calibre library from your Kindle’s browser.

Select a book and choose “Download.” It’ll download and be ready to read within seconds.

Email

While you might not have a Kindle email address, you likely have an email address. You can send newly added books to your email address automatically or manually, then use your Kindle browser to sign in to your email account and download the book to your device. It’s the more time-consuming process but works well for transferring small amounts of books/documents.

Open the “Preferences” tab and select “Sharing books by email” under “Sharing.”

Select “Add” to add a new email address. Enter your email address in the Email field and add “AWZ3” as the format type. If you don’t want a Calibre ebook to automatically send, uncheck “Auto Send.”

Frequently Asked Questions 1. Can I use Google Play Store on Kindle?

Yes, but you’ll first need to enable your device to install apps from unknown sources. (See the beginning of this article for the steps.) Older Kindle devices (over five to six years old) might not have this option.

Then you’ll need to download the following:

Google Account Manager

Google Services Framework

Google Play Services

Google Play Store

Please note that not all apps in the Google Play Store will be compatible with your Kindle.

2. What if my Kindle doesn’t have Wi-Fi?

If your Kindle only has mobile data, or the Wi-Fi doesn’t work any more, you can still use it as an ebook reader. You’ll need to use Calibre’s USB cable transfer method to get books onto the device, though.

3. Can I format a Kindle if I don’t know the password?

Yes. If you want to start from scratch or someone gave you a device, and you don’t know their login in order to deregister it, you can format the device.

Start the Kindle and try logging in five times.

On the fifth try, you’ll get the option to reset your password (which requires an Amazon account) or factory reset.

Tap the Factory Reset option to format.

4. What if I don’t have a computer to transfer books with Calibre?

Since it is available for Android and iOS, you can use your mobile device instead. You can also choose to store your ebooks and documents on Google Drive, Dropbox, or another cloud-based service. Then, as you add books to your cloud drive, just visit the drive on your Kindle’s browser to download the books directly.

Wrapping Up

It’s surprisingly easy to use your Kindle without an Amazon account. While you can’t download Amazon Kindle ebooks, there are numerous free options available that allow you to transfer directly to your device.

You can also use your Kindle to subscribe to and read books using a Kindle Unlimited alternative.
