Within Settings, you’ll only find a simple measure of total screen time and how much each app has depleted battery life. Further controls are available via Microsoft’s Family Safety app, but screen time can only be accessed if you set up a separate child account and device.
By contrast, Android and iOS let you set app limits and provide lots of data about your own device by default. Becoming aware of where your time is being spend is a useful step towards reducing screen time – something many of us are trying to do.
However, alongside the limited built-in tools, there is a third-party app available for Windows 11 which offers some additional functionality. It doesn’t quite compare to what you’ll find on a smartphone, but it’s a significant improvement.
In this article, we’ll run through the three main ways you can check and manage screen time on Windows 11.
How to check total Windows 11 screen timeAs its name suggests, ‘Screen on’ serves as a measure of the total time your device’s display has been switched on. It’s not a completely accurate measure of how long you’re staring at it for – you may leave the screen on while away from your desk or sofa – but it serves as a useful guide.
To access it on Windows 11:
The graph is useful for battery life info, but below it you’ll find a figure for ‘Screen on’. This is set to the last 24 hours by default, but you can choose the last 7 days if you prefer

How to check Windows 11 screen time per appMicrosoft only provides data for battery usage per app, rather than screen time. That won’t be of any use if your device is plugged in, but the timings are generally accurate if you’ve been running on battery power.
To view it:
From the drop-down box next to ‘Sort by:’, choose ‘In use’
Each app will now be sorted by the amount of battery power consumed in the time specified above – either 24 hours or 7 days. See the ‘in use’ time in brackets for a guide to screen time

But while many Windows 11 devices can last a full working day, most people will plug them in at some point. That makes the data much less reliable, but a third-party app makes things easier.
How to check Windows 11 screen time using a third-party appMicrosoft is yet to make a dedicated version of Android’s Digital Wellbeing app, but developer Alexandra Sava has.
Despite being limited to data from the last seven days, it offers Android-style graphs and pie charts for exploring where your time is spent. You can also set individual app limits, tag apps as one of six categories or choose to include any from the data.
Here’s how to get it:

Once installed, the app will open automatically to the home screen you see below. It sometimes takes a while to update with the latest data, but should be generally accurate

In order to collect screen time data, Digital Wellbeing for Windows stays running in the background. It means that when you try to open it, you’ll see a message saying ‘Application is already running. Check your notification tray’.

There are a few different features within Digital Wellbeing that you can customize to fit your needs. For a brief overview, keep reading.
Digital Wellbeing App timersIf there is a specific app that you can’t force yourself to stop using or cut back on, this feature is excellent. You can allow yourself a particular amount of time each day on various apps. Once you’ve hit your screen time limit for the day, you cannot use that app until the timer resets at midnight.
How to set app timers:
Open the Settings app.
Select Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
Hit Dashboard.
Tap on Show all apps.
Find the app you want to set a timer for.
Select the hourglass icon to the right of the app.

For starters, you can turn Do Not Disturb mode on, set the screen to grayscale, and keep the screen dark. Bedtime mode allows you to pick which of these features are activated. You can set the times and days you want to use bedtime mode, and it’ll automatically turn on and off, so you don’t even have to worry about remembering it. Additionally, you can make it so that Bedtime mode only turns on while the phone is plugged in during charging.
How to set Bedtime mode:
Open the Settings app.
Select Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
Hit Bedtime mode.
Select what you want the phone to do during Bedtime mode. Tap Next.

Of course, you can turn Focus mode off and on whenever you please. So it will ultimately be up to you to exercise willpower and not turn Focus mode off until you finish your task. When all of your apps are grayed out, it serves as a reminder that you need to focus. Hopefully, that will motivate you to keep screen time to a minimum!
How to use Focus mode:
Open the Settings app.
Select Digital Wellbeing and parental controls.
Hit Focus mode.
Tap on Show all apps.

Digital Wellbeing is a great way to monitor your child’s screen time. To use the parental controls through Digital Wellbeing, you must download the Family Link app from the Google Play Store. You’ll have to set everything up on your phone, and then on your child’s phone.
Once everything is set up, you can monitor your child’s screen time, set time limits for them, disable their apps at bedtime, and more.
FAQs
There are multiple reasons why spending too much time on your screen isn’t the best use of your time. For starters, too much screen time is usually linked with health issues. This is generally because we don’t tend to be physically active if we stare at a screen all day. Not to mention screens tend to affect our sleep. Also important is the fact that it eats your time, though. Instead of endlessly scrolling through social networks, you can spend that time with your family, working, exercising, and more.
There is no magic number of hours that can be considered healthy for screen time. According to the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, adults should limit their screen time to less than two hours a day (outside of work). Otherwise, people should spend that time exercising or doing other activities.
How To Record Your Screen In Windows 11
In the not-too-distant Windows past, a third-party app was your only option. These days, there are three separate tools built into the user experience.
But not just have one? As it turns out, each has a specific purpose, but also its own limitations – so it’s important to choose wisely. Here’s everything you need to know about screen recording on Windows 11.
How to record Windows 11 screen using Snipping ToolThe Snipping Tool has been part of Windows since 2002, but it was only with the release of Windows 11 that it gained screen recording capabilities. It’s very easy to capture and share footage this way, but there’s one big drawback: it doesn’t include audio.
If that’s fine for you, here’s how to use it:
Open the Snipping Tool app – the easiest way is by searching for it next to the Start menu

Hold and drag to select the area of the screen you’d like to record

Perform the action that you’d like to record, pausing at any time if you need to
Play back the recording and make sure it’s what you were looking for
This is an MP4 file, so it can be viewed via any app which supports that format.
How to record Windows 11 screen using ClipchampMicrosoft bought the Clipchamp video editing software in 2023, before adding it to Windows 11 a few months later. The app includes a powerful screen recording feature as one of the capture methods, and it supports audio too.
However, the free version of Clipchamp limits you to 30 minutes of video at up to 1080p resolution. For anything more, you’ll have to pay for an ‘Essentials’ subscription or get Microsoft 365. If you don’t mind that, here’s how to use it:
Open the Clipchamp app – the easiest way is by searching for it next to the Start menu
If this is your first time using Clipchamp, sign in or create an account. You can skip most of the setup
Anyron Copeman / Foundry
From the screen that appears, select the ‘Record & create’ tab on the left side
Anyron Copeman / Foundry
Choose between just your camera, just your screen or both
Anyron Copeman / Foundry
Accept relevant permissions when prompted
Choose your microphone and camera (if applicable), then hit the big red button to start recording
Give the app download permission, then make any edits you’d like
How to record Windows 11 screen using Xbox Game BarThe Xbox Game Bar was added to Windows 10 as an easy way to capture gameplay, but it can be used to record your screen and audio. However, the caveat here is that it just records the entire screen, with no way to select a specific tab or window.
Here’s how to use it:
Open the app/s you want to record and make sure they’re on screen
Use the Windows Key + Alt + R shortcut, which will begin recording immediately
Once again, this is an MP4 file that can easy be shared and played on other devices.

How To Check Wifi Password In Windows 11
We don’t always remember all the passwords we use in our daily digital routine. We most certainly can’t always recall the passwords of all the WiFi networks we have ever connected to. If your device is set to connect to a WiFi network automatically when in range, you don’t need to enter a password every time your device is switched on and is near to the WiFi range. It will automatically connect to the WiFi network when it is in range.
Because of that, we often can’t recall the WiFi password when we need to enter it on another new device. How do we find out the password of a WiFi network your computer is already connected to? This short guide will show you how to check the WiFi password in Windows 11.
How to find your WiFi password on Windows 11This guide is assuming you have a Windows 11 computer that is already connected to a WiFi network and that you want to find and see the password of the WiFi network so that you can use the password on another device.
To check the password of a WiFi network your PC is connected to in Windows 11, follow the steps below.
2. In the Settings window, under “Network & internet”, scroll down and select Advanced network settings.
3. Under Related settings, select More network adapter options. This will open the Control Panel’s Network Connections window.
You can then use the password on your other device to connect to the same WiFi network. In most cases, you don’t have to worry about the security type and encryption type of the WiFi network. Your device will usually be able to automatically detect and use the correct security and encryption type for the WiFi network.
Check WiFi password through Router/ModemAnother method is of course to check the WiFi password directly from the router’s settings. This requires users to know how to access to the router to be able to see or change the password of the WiFi network.
Generally, you can access to your router by accessing to the default gateway IP address, which is usually 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 127.0.0.1, etc. These are just some of the commonly used gateway IP addresses for most home networks.
Once you have the IP address, you can then enter it onto your web browser’s address bar to open your router’s web interface. You also need to know the login credentials to your router. The router’s login details are usually provided either by your ISP or whoever helped setting up your network. You can also try to check the router and see if there is any label that shows the login details.
Once logged in to your router, look for options called Wireless, Wireless Settings or something similar. From there look for the WiFi settings that show both the WiFi name and its password. If there is a checkbox that says “show password” or “show characters”, be sure to enable it to make the password visible.
For some routers, because of security reason, the routers won’t show the password. But they will allow you to change the WiFi password to a new password.
