Suggested January 2024 How To Recycle Your Phone No Matter Where You Live
No matter how fond we grow of our pocket computers, there comes a time in every smartphone owner’s life when it’s time to bite the bullet and opt for an upgrade. And that poses the question of what to do with your outdated handset.
Quick tip: don’t dump it straight into the trash. Electronic waste, or e-waste, can leak harmful chemicals into the environment, so you don’t want it sitting in a landfill. The best way to dispose of your device is through an official recycling program, one which will make sure all the components are dealt with properly. Unlike regular trash and recycling, you can’t put your e-waste out for curbside pickup, so proper disposal will vary depending on where you live. Read on to learn about accessible options across the US. Just remember to get rid of any private data on that device before you hand it over.Go direct to the manufacturer
Apple recycling Apple
Samsung has what it calls a Mobile Take-Back Program, which means you package your old Samsung phone up in a pre-paid envelope and send it back to Samsung. The manufacturer will dispose of the device in a way that minimizes the impact on the environment (by recycling certain components, for instance).
If your phone is LG-branded, then head to the LG Recycling Program website, enter your zip code, and you’ll be met with a list of local drop-off points where you can leave your unwanted phone. HTC has a similar scheme in the US and will accept any device, irrespective of its manufacturer.Find a local retail outlet
Best Buy recycling Best Buy
Don’t want to mail your phone back to the company that made it? You don’t have to go far to recycle your old phone in person. Retail outlets like Best Buy have thousands of stores across the US that you can visit. Best Buy’s program will accept your defunct smartphone and dispose of it ethically. In fact, you can take almost any kind of electronic device back to Best Buy and the staff will get rid of it for you.
Staples is another well-known name with a comprehensive recycling program for taking your phone off your hands. If your device is still working and relatively new, you may also get some Staples credit back that you can spend on something else. The company also gives you the option to mail in your device or drop it off in a store in person.
Another option is to use your carrier’s recycling scheme. T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon all let you return your old phones (and other electronics) to stores. Like Staples, some of the carriers will give you a trade-in value that you can put towards any new gadget you’ve got your eye on. Between carriers, manufacturers, and electronics stores, you should be able to find somewhere nearby to recycle your phone. Many of these schemes offer mail-in options too.Donate it to charity
Cell Phones for Soldiers Cell Phones for Soldiers
Some of those trade-in programs let you turn old phones into cash. But instead of spending the money on yourself, why not donate it to a good cause? Not only does the environment benefit, so do some of the people who need help the most.
The Recycling for Charities site is a good place to start: You can mail in your obsolete device and select a charity of your choice to receive the proceeds. Phones4Charity works similarly. To stay local, try chúng tôi which lets you input your zip code to find charity recycling initiatives in your area.
Most individual organizations will be only too happy to receive your old mobile phones, so if there are a few charities you’re keen to support, just ask them if it’s an option. Some of the organizations that accept phones nationwide are the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Hope Phones (also known as Medic Mobile), and Cell Phones for Soldiers.Other options, state-by-state
California recycling California State
Official state-sponsored recycling programs vary across the US, but you will always be able to find the most up-to-date information from your state’s government website. In New York State, for example, any store that sells you a cell phone is also required to accept it back from you for recycling. The same law applies in California.
Meanwhile, Washington State has an official e-cycle scheme that you can access on the web. Enter your zip code and what you want to recycle, and the site returns options for mailing in your unwanted phones. Other states, such as Illinois, provide a list of approved recyclers that you can refer to.

When most people hear the phrase “organ transplantation,” they generally think of _allo_transplantation, that is, the transplantation of organs from one person (allo=other) to a second person. Transplanted organs may come from a cadaver, as in heart transplants, or from a living donor, as with some kidney and liver transplants. Allotransplantation requires the use of immunosuppressive drugs. Patients who receive donor organs must take a special medication regimen for the rest of their lives to prevent their bodies from rejecting the “foreign” donor organs. Transplants can give many severely ill patients a new lease on life, but current immunosuppressive drugs have a number of serious side effects.
One lesser-known form of transplantation is _auto_transplantation, where a patient’s own organs are removed from their body and then retransplanted back into their body, sometimes in a different location. Hunh? Why would you…? Two examples of tissues used in autotransplantation are parathyroid glands and pancreatic islet cells.
Most people have four parathyroid glands, located in the neck. Parathyroid glands secrete a substance creatively named parathyroid hormone a.k.a. PTH, which regulates levels of calcium in the blood. Sometimes, parathyroid glands can become big and overactive (hyperplastic) and secrete too much PTH; with all the extra PTH floating around your body, your calcium levels get too high. The classic symptoms of patients with elevated PTH and hypercalcemia are “stones (kidney stones), bones (fractures), moans (psychiatric problems) and groans (constipation – don’t ask me, I didn’t make this stuff up!).” One therapy for parathyroid hyperplasia is to surgically remove some or all of the glands. Exploratory neck surgery can be complicated; for example, there are important nerves in the neck that help control the vocal cords. For future ease of access for follow-up, after removing all four parathyroid glands, some surgeons will retransplant one gland back into the patient – sometimes in the patient’s arm. It seems odd to take a gland from your neck and stick in a totally different part of the body, but the parathyroid gland doesn’t mind and is perfectly happy to hang out by your elbow keep on secreting PTH into the blood.
Another example of autotransplantation is pancreatic islet cell transplants. Islet cells secrete a number of hormones, including insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar. There are other types of cells in the pancreas, some of which secrete very strong digestive enzymes. In the condition known as pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas (-itis = inflammation), these strong enzymes can become problematic. The pancreas may start digesting itself. (The pancreas is notoriously vicious – a surgeon once told me, “you can operate on any organ – but the pancreas takes revenge.”)
Sometimes, the pain of chronic pancreatitis can be so bad that the only effective therapy is to have your pancreas removed. However, if you remove the whole pancreas to get rid of the scary-enzyme secreting cells, you also lose the insulin-secreting islet cells. Without insulin, you can’t control your blood sugar, and you’ll become severely diabetic, a condition sometimes known as “surgical diabetes.”
Fortunately, medical scientists have discovered a way to separate out the islet cells from the other cells in the pancreas. Basically, they smush up the pancreas and extract out the islet cells which have a different density than the other pancreatic cells. So for patients with very severe chronic pancreatitis, doctors can remove the pancreas, separate out the insulin-secreting islet cells, and transplant the islet cells back into the patient, thus performing the double service of getting rid of the pain, and preventing surgical diabetes.
Where do docs implant islet cells? Back in the abdomen where the pancreas was, right? Nope. Instead, islet cells are usually transplanted back into the liver, or occasionally injected into the kidney. You end up with a liver that acts sort of like the pancreas you lost . . . why? Again, partly for convenience. When you transplant something, it’s good to know it’ll probably stay where you put it -sticking islet cells in another solid organ means you know where to find them if you need access later.
What else is cool about autotransplantation? Since the patient’s body is already familiar with the cells, no immunosuppressive drugs (with their attendant side effects) are required to prevent rejection. If you are scalpel-sharp, you may have realized that both parathyroid glands and pancreata (yes, that is the plural of pancreas. Use it in conversation!) are both endocrine organs, that is, they secrete hormones into the blood, which is part of what gives doctors such flexibility in transplantation.
Mobile phones are definitely one of the best inventions of this century. They help us out in so many ways along with providing entertainment. But not everyone is appreciative of them being so available. Performing artists are starting to demand you “lock down” your phone in order to enter the arena. Would you lock down your phone to attend a concert?
You can’t blame them. You want people to enjoy your show, but they’re busy posting selfies of themselves to social media, chatting with their friends through text, and sometimes even playing Pokemon Go.
While Rihanna not-so-politely asked her concertgoers to put their phones away and stop playing Pokemon Go, and Adele got angry at fans for filming her concert on their phones, some other performers, such as Rihanna, want a more strict rule.
They have begun using special pouches that put your phone in lockdown. They’re not going to trust you to turn it off or put it in airplane mode. You insert your phone in the pouch and then are allowed to keep it with you so that it’s not out of your hands. If you need to use the phone, you can go outside to have a security guard open the pouch for you.
Would this method bother you? If your phone was locked up in one of these pouches so that you couldn’t use it unless you left, would you get upset? Would you prefer to use this method as long as you’re able to keep your phone on your person? Or would you just prefer not to go to concerts as long as your phone is being kept from you?

Whenever you press the “Delete” key on your keyboard, Windows deletes the file, or rather, moves the file from its actual location to the Recycle Bin. This behavior helps you to recover the file or folder if you’ve ever deleted it accidentally. However, over time, the number of files and folders in the Recycle Bin will increase. This consumes a lot of space in your C drive.
Of course, you can easily reclaim that lost space by simply emptying the Recycle Bin. But if you are like me and deletes a lot of files due to work, then it is a good idea to automatically clear the Recycle Bin at set intervals. Here’s how to automatically empty the Recycle Bin in Windows.Automatically Empty Recycle Bin in Windows
There are many ways you can automatically clean your Recycle Bin, like using a standalone third-party program, using the built-in Disk Cleanup utility, etc. However, we are going to use a simple and effective way that uses both the Task Scheduler and Command Prompt commands.
To start, search for the “Task Scheduler” in the Start menu and open it. Alternatively, you can also use the Run command taskschd.msc to open the Task Scheduler.
Here, enter “cmd.exe” in the “Program/Script” field and the below command in the “Add Arguments” field. This is how it looks like when you are done adding the fields.
From this point forward your recycle bin will be automatically emptied according to the trigger you set in the Task Scheduler.

Every time I see an announcement from someone I follow on Twitter or LinkedIn that they are quitting their day jobs to go out on their own in SEO, PPC, social, or content, I get a little jolt of joy for them.
Quitting my job to start my own business was one of the best things I did for myself and my career.
Sure, it’s scary to go from something that’s a given to such a risky place – but as one of my entrepreneur friends once told me – there’s more than enough work out there if you know where to find it.
I’ve spent my whole career working for entrepreneurs, startups, and owner-operated businesses.
I was raised in a family-owned business and chipped in on the weekends and after school to answer phones, stuff envelopes, and show my grandparents how to use Word.
Because I’ve spent most of my life seeing the inner workings of business and freelance life, I’ve collected a few of my best tips to help you avoid big mistakes in becoming your own boss.1. Stop Undercharging for Your Services
When I first opened my business, I thought that I was starting back at square one.
Sure, I had 10+ years of experience in content, SEO, and marketing, but I had zero years of experience running my own business.
I thought I had to charge zero-years-experience prices as opposed to 10-years-experience prices. People I worked with were getting a steal of a deal for comprehensive services at beginner rates.
Finally, a business coach I was working with told me, “You didn’t quit your job to work more hours for less money. Charge what you’re worth!”
Not only that but by charging too-low prices, you’re making sure everyone in the industry is getting undercut and all their services become commoditized.
When our services as marketers become a commodity, clients end up price-shopping around instead of finding the true value in what we do.
The saying goes that “A rising tide raises all boats.”
Charge a rate you’re worth.2. You Don’t Need Fancy Stuff to Do Your Job
When I first started my SEO company, I spoke to an accountant who told me that I should buy all new office equipment because it’d be covered on my taxes in startup costs.
As someone who worked from my couch and kitchen table often, I thought, sure a new standing desk, office chair, etc. would be great. Along with what the bookkeeper told me, I thought I needed certain things to be “official.”
I bought courses online to help me be a better entrepreneur. I got a business coach. I bought a bunch of books about entrepreneurship and success. I contacted a small business lawyer. I reached out to an accountant.
When I go all in, I really go all in.
And while some of these things were necessary, some definitely weren’t.
I wanted so badly to “do it the right way” that I got a little too overzealous and definitely wasted money where I didn’t need to. I still work from my kitchen table far more often than my standing desk.
If someone tells you that you need something make sure to check and double-check. Get second and third opinions and ask your entrepreneur friends, Slack groups, and Twitter chats what they’ve found they “needed.”
You can save a lot of money and run a leaner machine than I did at first by asking yourself what you really need or what you can wait to invest in for your business.3. It’s OK to Say No to Work
I talk to so many marketing entrepreneurs looking to go out on their own for freelance or open their own search-focused businesses who tell me they will take any work they can get.
I get that 100%, and I was totally the same way at the beginning. Beggars can’t be choosers, after all, and we’ve got bills to pay, right?
But as your marketing business grows, it’s important that you ensure you’re growing it with intention.
This means thinking about what:
You actually enjoy doing.
You’re good at.
You have time to do.
Find ways to build your business around your life instead of vice versa.
When you get to a point where it feels manageable, you may have a client come to you or someone may refer work to you that just doesn’t strike your fancy.
Maybe the client is in an industry that you don’t feel comfortable working in.
Maybe the time zone difference will make your life a lot more hectic.
Maybe you’re booked up right now and saying yes to one more thing will put your schedule over the top.
Maybe some discovery calls are showing you red flags that the client will not be a good fit with your working style or company mission.
Whatever the reason, it is OK to say no to work.
Every time I say no to someone, I make sure to refer that client to another SEO that I know can help them better than I could (whether that SEO is an expert in their industry, works specifically on their type of project, etc.).
In fact, saying no to work you don’t want to do will help you make room in your life and your business for the clients you do want to work with, the work you do want to do, and the industries you feel you’re an expert in.4. Delegate Things Before You Think You Need To
Whether you want to be a solo-preneur or eventually build your marketing business to hire employees, at the very beginning you may feel like you have to do everything on your own.
You don’t have to hire a full-time employee to do this. You can work with other marketing contractors to help you on a one-time or ongoing basis.
Another option is to hire a virtual assistant (VA) for a set of hours to take care of any miscellaneous tasks you have each month.
A VA is often more affordable than you think and 100% worth it.
I have a VA I work with for 8 to 12 hours a month, and she helps me with things like checking my email while I’m out of the country, setting up processes and software, automating contracts, and more.
Most VAs can learn to do anything (and often they like to, which is why they choose that job!).
Make a list of everything you think is a waste of your time as a marketing entrepreneur and interview some VAs who could potentially do some of those tasks for you.Build Your Business Intentionally
Whether you just went out on your own or are thinking about quitting your 9 to 5, find ways to build your marketing business intentionally.
Think things through and do everything on purpose.
Find ways to build your business around your life and not your life around your business.
You’ll end up happier and more successful.
Learn how to mirror your Android phone screen to your Mac wirelessly or using a USB cable, and without having to root your device.
It takes just three taps on your iPhone or iPad to wirelessly mirror its screen to your Mac. The steps for reproducing your Android screen to Mac are not quite that simple, but it’s not hard either, and we will help you do that using free apps.
The process here applies to Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Redmi, Realme, Lava, Motorola, Nothing, Google Pixel, and almost all other Android phones and tablets.
Why use the methods described below
Unlike iOS, there is no native option on Android devices to mirror the screen to macOS. Therefore, some clients may need you to take significant steps before you can use them. However, with the methods we mentioned below, you:
Don’t have to root your Android phone.
Don’t have to turn off Firewall or FileVault on your Mac.
And you don’t have to reduce the overall security of your Mac.
Wirelessly mirror your Android smartphone screen to Mac
You do not have to enter developer mode for the screen cast.
You do not have to disable any security settings on your mobile phone.
I prefer this mirroring process over the wired method (explained next).
1) Make sure your Android phone and Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
2) Download the AirDroid Cast Now desktop client on your Mac and install it like any other app. Next, download and install AirDroid Cast-screen mirroring on your Android phone from the Google Play Store.
3) Launch AirDroid Cast on your Mac, and you will see the Wireless section with a QR code and a nine-digit numeric code.
4) Now, open AirDroid Cast on your Android phone and scan the QR code, or enter the nine-digit code you see on your Mac. After that, tap Start Casting.
After a few seconds, tap Start Now to allow the app to mirror your Android phone screen to Mac.
6) Now, you can tap the Home button on your phone to go to the Home Screen and, from there, go inside other apps. Everything from here will mirror to your Mac’s screen.
The AirDroid Cast app on Mac will show a thin sidebar with some handy tools. A couple of them can be used after getting the premium version, while others let you see the app settings, rotate the screen, etc.
You can hit the green button in the AirDroid Cast app on Mac to enter full-screen mode, which will hide the left sidebar.Stop mirroring
Open the AirDroid Cast app on your Android phone, and from here, you can pause the mirroring.
However, if you want to stop mirroring, tap the X button in the top left corner and tap OK on the End casting alert.
Mirror your Android phone screen to Mac using a wired connection
You can control your Android phone from your Mac while casting. For example, you can use your Mac’s mouse and trackpad to open apps on your Android phone.
You will have to enable Developer Mode on your Android phone and enable a bunch of sub-settings. Please proceed at your own risks.
You do not have to connect your Mac and Android to a Wi-Fi network or maintain an active internet connection.
A wired connection is generally more reliable than wireless methods.Step 1: Enable Developer Mode
Samsung: Go to Software information, tap Build number seven times, and enter your device passcode.
Pixel, Motorola, and other phones with stock or almost stock Android: Tap Build Number seven times until you see ‘You are now a developer!‘
Xiaomi: Tap MIUI version a few times until you see ‘You are now developer. Stop tapping.’Step 2: Enable other settings
The app we’re using below will show you which developer sub-settings to enable after you turn on Developer Mode. You will most likely have to go to Developer options in phone Settings. On some phones, the Developer options are buried under Additional settings or More settings of the Settings app. Once you’re there:
Enable Install via USB
Enable USB debugging
Enable USB debugging (Security settings)
Turn off Verify apps over USB (Note: I didn’t turn it off, and screen mirroring still worked on my Xiaomi phone.)Step 3: Get the Vysor app and open it
Vysor is a free app that allows you to share your Android phone’s screen with your computer. Get it from the Google Play Store on your phone and from the official website for your Mac.
Open Vysor on your phone and go through its initial screens. You have already enabled the settings it requires. Still, if it asks to do something else, tap Open Developer Options and enable or disable those options.Step 4: Connect your phone to your Mac
Use a USB cable to connect your Android phone to your Mac. In most cases, you do not have to pay attention to the alert that appears on your phone after connecting it to your computer with a wire.Step 5: See your Android phone’s screen on Mac and control it
Open the Vysor app on your Mac.
After that, you should see your Android phone’s screen on your Mac.
The thin row of icons on the top of the screen offers handy options to take screenshots, record phone screens, enter full screens, and more. But most of them are accessible after upgrading to the pro version. Similarly, you can also go to Settings to upgrade the mirroring quality if you have purchased a license.Stop mirroring your phone
You can simply unplug your Android phone from your Mac to stop mirroring. Alternatively, you can quit the Vysor app on Mac.
