Suggested March 2024 How To Remove Contacts Suggestions When Sharing In Google Photos

Google has been integrating its services to Android for quite some years now. The latest introduction to the ecosystem includes the ability to share videos and photos with other Android devices in the vicinity using direct share. Share sheet has also received a revamped look with better contact suggestions from all Google services.

But this can be sometimes intrusive and intimidating when you press share and find all your recent contacts in one place. Here’s what you can do if you wish to remove someone from suggestions under Google Photos sharing tray menu.

Google takes into account your most contacted contacts on your local storage and the recently contacted people as well. Google also takes into account recently contacted people on Google services including apps like Google Chat, Hangouts, Gmail, Duo, and more. Using your activity data from all these services, Google suggests you contacts in your share sheet in Google Photos depending on your most contacted people.

Who can show up as suggestions?

All of your contacts stored on your local storage can show up as suggestions in the share sheet in Google Photos. This includes local contacts, Gmail contacts, Google contacts, Duo contacts and more. In some cases, if you have the spam filter enabled then Google will also suggest recently contacted services and repairmen depending on your current activity. Additionally, if you use other contact apps to get in touch with local services then you might also end up getting suggestions from all such apps.

Unfortunately, there is no dedicated way to remove contact suggestions when sharing photos in the Google Photos app. Previously you could edit your suggestions in the Contacts app but this method too is redundant with the latest version of Photos. Google Photos now uses its own inbuilt contact suggestions system and doesn’t rely on the Contacts app anymore.

Furthermore, the Contacts app doesn’t give you the ability to edit your suggestions anymore. But there is a workaround that you can use to better mask your suggestions so that they don’t encroach on your privacy.

Workarounds

There are a couple of workarounds that you can use that will essentially remove the contact from your suggestions. Please bear in mind that each of these workarounds comes with its own set of compromises. You can select the one that best suits your needs and follow one of the guides below. Let’s get started.

This is not ideal, but the best way to remove someone from your Photos suggestions. Once, the contact has been deleted, it will no longer show up in your contact suggestions. Follow the guide below to delete contacts from your device.

Open the contacts app on your device and find the concerned contact in the list and tap on it.

Now tap on the 3-dot menu icon in the top right corner of your screen.

Tap and select ‘Delete’.

Tap on ‘Delete’ to confirm your choice.

The contact will now be deleted from your device’s local storage and it should no longer show up in the share sheet.

If you regularly share content with the concerned contact then it is likely that you don’t wish to delete them from your contact list. In such cases, you can change their identity altogether. Follow the guide below to change the concerned contact’s display picture and name.

Open the Contacts app on your device and find and tap on the concerned contact in the list.

Tip: You can also search for the contact using the search bar at the top.

Tap on ‘Edit contact’ in the bottom right corner.

Delete the previous contact name and enter a new name as desired.

Now tap on the profile picture with the camera icon at the top of your screen.

Tap on ‘Select new photo’.

Now select the desired image from your local storage.

You will now get the option to crop and rotate the photo. Make the necessary edits and once done, tap on ‘Done’ in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Now tap on ‘Save’ in the top right corner.

The contact details will now be changed and the appropriate changes will now be reflected in the Photos share sheet as well.

How To Use Google Photos Locked Folder

3.7K

Earlier, if you wanted to hide photos in Google Photos, you would either archive them, put them in the trash, or use a third-party app locker. Fortunately, Google has now introduced a native ability way to password-protect photos inside Google Photos. This has been made possible with the help of the Locked folder. What is the Google Photos Locked folder and how to add photos to it? Find the answer here.

What Is Locked Folder in Google Photos

Found in the Utilities section of Google Photos, the Locked folder allows you to hide sensitive photos and videos behind a passcode. The Locked folder uses your phone’s screen lock, which can either be a password or a biometric. That is, in addition to unlocking the device, you will need to unlock the Locked folder separately.

The items inside the Locked folder are kept private and no other app can access them. Such photos and videos are also hidden from other gallery apps. You can view them only inside the Locked folder after unlocking it.

Previously, the Locked folder was only available on Google Pixel phones, but it is now available on any non-Pixel phone running Android 6 or later.

How to Add Photos or Videos to Locked Folder

There are three ways to hide photos and videos in the Locked folder.

Method 1

1. Open the Google Photos app and go to the Library tab.

2. Tap on Utilities. If it’s your first time, you will see the Set up Locked folder option, tap on it.

Alternatively, scroll down and tap on Locked folder under Organize your library section.

3. You will need to unlock your device if you have a screen lock in place. In case you don’t, you will need to create it first before you can set up the Locked folder.

4. The Locked folder screen will appear. Tap on the Move items button or press the Add icon at the top.

5. Select the items that you want to add to the Locked folder and tap on Move at the top.

6. The item will appear in the Locked folder.

Method 2

Alternatively, open a photo or video in Google Photos and swipe up. Tap on Move to Locked folder.

Method 3

If you own a Google Pixel phone, you can save photos directly from the Camera in the Locked folder. This feature works on Pixel 3 and above.

To do so, open the Google Camera app on your phone. Tap on the Photo Gallery option at the top. The Save to menu will appear. Choose Locked folder.

Now, any photo or video that you capture will be saved automatically in the Locked folder. To save in the regular album, choose Photo Gallery from this menu.

What Happens by Putting Photos and Videos in Locked Folder

The Locked folder not only hides the photos placed inside it, but it also has an effect on other things as shown below.

Google Photos Features

The items added in the Locked folder won’t appear in Google Photos search, memories, movies, or albums. They will be visible only inside the Locked folder. Furthermore, you cannot move items to Trash from the Locked folder or put them in albums. The Locked folder also lacks the ability to edit pictures.

Restricts Sharing

When you add photos to the Locked folder, you won’t be able to share them either from the Google Photos app or directly through other apps. That’s because other apps cannot access the photos present in the Locked folder.

Cloud Functionality

Google Photos is used both as a regular gallery app and a cloud storage tool. However, any photo or video added to the Locked folder is stored locally on your device and will not be uploaded to the cloud. If a photo has already been uploaded to the cloud, the cloud backup will be deleted and the photo will be saved on your phone’s storage.

Data Transfer

Similarly, the items inside the Locked folder aren’t transferred when sharing with other devices using cable or USB transfers.

Screenshots

Both screenshots and screen recordings are blocked inside the Locked folder. If you try to capture either, the captured photo or video will appear black.

Uninstalling App

Generally, uninstalling the Google Photos app or clearing its data won’t affect the photos or videos. However, any item inside the Locked folder will be deleted permanently when you delete the Google Photos app or clear its data. To save them, you will need to remove them from the Locked folder.

How to Remove Photos from Locked Folder

Go to the Locked Folder inside Google Photos. Unlock the folder and tap on the photo or video that you want to move back to a regular album. Tap on the Move button. In case you want to delete the photo permanently, tap on the Delete button. Please note that the item will not be taken to Trash but will be deleted permanently.

If you want to move back multiple items, tap on the three-dot icon on the Locked folder screen. Select the items and tap on Move.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can You Password Protect a Google Photos Albums?

You cannot put a password on individual albums in Google Photos. If you want to hide a photo, you will need to move it to the Locked folder.

Can You Use a Different Password Than Lock Screen

Sadly, no. The Locked folder uses your device lock only. So anyone having access to the device screen lock will be able to unlock the Locked folder.

What’s the Difference Between Locked Folder and Archive

Archived items aren’t protected by any lock. They can be accessed by anyone and will also show up in the Google Photos’ search, unlike the Locked folder items. Furthermore, you can easily share archived photos.

Have Fun With Google Photos

The Google Photos Locked folder has been a much-awaited utility tool. Now that it’s here, you don’t need to rely on any external tools to password protect Google Photos. If you enjoy using Google Photos, check out the best tips to edit photos and videos in it.

How To Remove Enchantments In Minecraft

Enchantments in Minecraft are always fun to explore. But that doesn’t mean all of them are desirable. You can find several enchanted items in this sandbox game but with negative enchantments on them. Or, you might end up putting the wrong enchantment while learning to use an enchanting table in Minecraft. Irrespective of the way you end up with an undesirable enchantment, removing it is really easy. To learn how to remove enchantments in Minecraft, we will need to craft a grindstone. It’s the only tool you can use to remove enchantments in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions. Alternatively, you can also install Forge in Minecraft to find unique and easy mod-based solutions for the same. But most players don’t need to take that complex route. So, without further ado, let me teach you how to remove enchantments in Minecraft from tools and weapons.

Remove Enchantments in Minecraft (2024)

We have tested the method described in this tutorial on the new Minecraft 1.18 update. So, you can rest assured while using it in your game without any trouble. While getting started, we will learn how to make a grindstone in Minecraft first. It’s the tool we will be using to remove enchantments in Minecraft. But you can also directly skip to the actual process using the table below.

Which Tool is Used to Remove Enchantments in Minecraft?

As mentioned earlier, the only tool you can use to remove enchantments in Minecraft is a grindstone. In traditional Minecraft worlds and in the real world too, a grindstone is used to polish and upgrade weapons and tools. However, Minecraft allows you to use it to grind away any enchantments on your tools too. It works on any type of enchantment equipment from swords to a carrot on a stick. Many players use this to collect XP (experience points) but more on that later. First, let’s figure out how to get a grindstone in the game.

How to Obtain Grindstone in Minecraft

Naturally, grindstones are only generated next to weaponsmiths’ houses in villages or inside the weaponsmith shelters. If you get that lucky, you can directly skip to learning how to remove enchantments in Minecraft. Such villages are not easy to come across, but you can use our best Minecraft village seeds to improve your chances. However, you can also craft grindstone in the game using the following items:

2 Sticks

2 Planks (any wood)

Stone Slab

Crafting Table

How to Make Stone Slab

The final and main ingredient you need to make a grindstone is a stone slab. Fortunately, Minecraft offers two unique ways to obtain stone slabs. However, for either of them, we need to get stones in the game. Stone can be created by heating cobblestone inside a furnace in Minecraft. And since cobblestone is one of the most abundant blocks in this sandbox game, it shouldn’t take long for you to collect and get started with making stones.

Once you have a stone in the game, you can find a village with a stonecutter in it. Stonecutters are usually easier to find than grindstones. Or, you can place 3 stones in the bottom row of the crafting table to easily craft stone slabs. This method will get you 6 stone slabs, even though we only need 2 to remove enchantments in Minecraft.

Crafting Recipe of Grindstone in Minecraft

Once you have collected all the items, you need to combine them to make a grindstone. To do so, follow the steps below:

1. You first need to place a wooden stick on either side of the first row of the crafting area.

How to Remove Enchantments in Minecraft Using Grindstone

To remove any enchantment from your tools or weapons, you just need to place them in the grindstone. There are two columns in the grindstone (see screenshot below), and you can use any of them. Just make sure that the other column is empty or has the same item in it. This process doesn’t cost anything in terms of experience, fuel, or time.

Bonus: Uses of Grindstone in Minecraft

Other than removing the enchantments in Minecraft, you can use the grindstone to:

Repair weapons and tools in Minecraft

Combining the durability of two same types of items

Increasing overall maximum durability of your equipments

Creating weapons smiths by placing grindstone in a village

How To Remove Devices And Customize The Google Home App

The Google Home app is a versatile and user-friendly application that serves as a centralized hub for managing various smart devices within your home. It allows users to control and monitor compatible devices such as smart speakers, smart displays, thermostats, lights, and more, all from a single interface. In addition to its device management capabilities, the Google Home app offers customization options to tailor the user experience according to individual preferences.

While the Google Home app provides seamless integration and control over smart devices, there are instances where removing devices becomes necessary. Removing devices from the app allows users to declutter their list and maintain a more organized and efficient setup.

How to Remove Devices in the Google Home App

Whether replacing a device with a new one, experiencing connectivity issues, or simply no longer using a particular device, removing it from the Google Home app ensures that only relevant and active devices are displayed, streamlining the management process. Additionally, removing devices can help resolve conflicts or troubleshoot problems that may arise when multiple devices are connected to the same app.

Open the Google Home app on your phone.

Locate and long-press the device that you want to remove.

At the bottom of the page, tap the Remove device button.

When prompted, tap Remove to confirm.

By removing unnecessary devices, users can optimize their experience and focus on controlling the devices that are actively in use.

How to Reorganize and Customize the Google Home App

Customizing the Google Home app allows users to personalize their smart home experience and tailor the app’s interface to their preferences. With the option to customize the app, users can optimize their interaction with smart devices, ensuring that the most frequently used features and controls are easily accessible.

Whether rearranging device tiles, creating custom room groups, or setting up routines and shortcuts, customization empowers users to create a personalized and streamlined interface that aligns with their unique needs and usage patterns. By customizing the Google Home app, users can enhance convenience, efficiency, and overall satisfaction in managing their smart home ecosystem.

Create a New Room

Creating a new room in the Google Home app enables users to categorize and organize their smart devices based on their physical location or function. Users can efficiently control and manage multiple devices within a designated space by assigning devices to specific rooms, enhancing convenience and simplifying their smart home experience.

Open the Google Home app on your phone.

Locate and long-press any device listed in the app.

Tap Room.

Scroll down to the Create new section.

Select one of the pre-created room suggestions.

You can also scroll to the bottom and tap Add a custom room…

Enter the name of the room.

Tap the Save button in the top right corner.

Of course, this isn’t something you’ll need to mess with unless you add an addition to your home. But more than likely, you’ll find yourself creating a new room in the Google Home app when you start adding devices and accessories to a room that didn’t already have any.

Move Devices to a Different Room

Moving a smart home device to a different room in the Google Home app allows users to update its location and ensure accurate device organization.

Open the Google Home app on your phone.

Locate and long-press any device listed in the app.

Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.

Tap Room.

Select a different location under the My rooms section.

Tap the Save button in the top right corner.

By easily reassigning devices to the appropriate room, users can maintain a well-structured and intuitive layout within the app, making it more convenient to control and manage their smart devices according to their desired locations.

Add Favorites For Quick Access

Another great feature of the updated Google Home app is the new “Favorites” tab. This is the first screen you are taken to whenever you open the app, giving you quick and easy access to the smart home devices you control most. Plus, if you have any security cameras, you can add them to your Favorites page and take a quick glance at them.

Open the Google Home app on your phone.

Tap the Favorites tab in the bottom toolbar.

At the bottom of the page, tap the Edit button

Tap the checkbox next to the devices that you want to favorite.

Once selected, tap the Save button in the bottom right corner.

The new Google Home app also makes it easier than ever to rearrange the layout of devices from the Favorites page. All you need to do is tap the Reorder button at the bottom of the Favorites screen. Then, drag and drop the devices in the order you want them to appear.

Check the “Linked To You” Section

You may have skipped over or forgotten to add a smart home device to a specific room. This doesn’t mean those accessories and devices aren’t available, but they aren’t currently assigned. Thankfully, there’s a dedicated section for these types of accessories, and here’s how you can move them to their appropriate rooms:

Open the Google Home app on your phone.

Tap the Devices tab in the bottom toolbar.

Scroll to the bottom until you reach the Linked to you section.

Long-press the device you want to move.

Tap the Settings button in the top right corner.

Tap Room.

Select a different location under the My rooms section.

Tap the Save button in the top right corner.

This is a nice way to keep your Google Home app clean and organized. Plus, you might find some older devices that are no longer in use but still appear in the app. The “Linked to you” section is quite convenient, so long as you remember to look for it if you can’t find a recently added device.

How To Download All Google Photos & Videos At Once

But since there are no good free alternatives – at least we’re yet to find one with the same search power and editing tools – there’s a good argument for accepting that you’ll have to pay to use it once you’ve used up the storage space Google gives you for free.

In any case, you’re here because you want to download your Google Photos, and that’s precisely what we’re going to show you how to do.

Of course, it isn’t entirely obvious how to do this, which is also why you’re here. We’ll explain how to download just some photos and videos or absolutely everything you’ve got on there.

How to download some photos from Google Photos

This is the simpler task of the two, which is why we’re explaining this first. The process is the same whether you’re downloading photos or videos from Google Photos.

How to download all Google Photos (and videos)

Downloading everything photos from Google Drive is quite simple, but the option isn’t in Google Photos.

Instead, you’ll need to use the amusingly titled Google Takeout service.

Google Takeout lets you download data from any of Google’s service, including your Chrome history, Google Play activity, Google Play Books, Hangouts history and much more, such as Photos.

You can do this in a web browser on a phone as well as on a desktop computer.

1.

Deselect everything

2.

Select Google Photos

3.

Select or deselect albums

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

If you want to to download everything, skip this step.

Now you will see a list of all your albums. If you haven’t separated all your pictures into albums (because who has time for that?), Google will automatically separate them by year. You might see albums and years.

4.

Scroll down and confirm

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

Scroll to the bottom of the list of all services and select Next Step.

5.

Choose export settings

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

In the export settings you can choose how often you want to download all your Google Photo content. You probably want the default Export once option here.

6.

Choose how to download

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

You won’t download the photos directly. The options are to email download links to yourself, or export everything you’ve selected to another cloud storage service. Currently, the options are Dropbox, OneDrive (Microsoft) and Box.

You can also add them to Google Drive, but this seems like a strange choice when the photos are effectively already stored in your Google account.

Here, we’re using the email option.

7.

Choose download size

8.

Wait!

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

Your files will now begin exporting. This can take a long time – as the message says – even days. So you won’t be able to download your collection immediately. You’ll get an email when the export is complete.

9.

Email notification

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

This is what the email will look like when it arrives. You can now download each exported zip folder to your hard drive.

Also note, you should get a security authorisation email from Google to confirm it’s you requesting to export your photos and not someone else. You may need to authorise it before you’re able to download your photos and videos

Note: the download links expire after one week.

10.

Export complete

Somrata Sarkar / Foundry

Once the export is complete, it will appear under the Show Exports option in Google Takeout.

What Is Google Photos Chat

Earlier in 2023, Google proudly declared that Photos had crossed the sacred 1 billion users milestone, becoming its ninth product to do so. Most smartphone users already know all about the blessing that is Google Photos. But if you’re only finding out about the free app, there are a couple of things you must know.

First, it is one of the most versatile gallery apps out there, fully capable of whatever stock gallery app you’re using. And second, it offers unlimited free storage for your photos and videos, as long as your photos and videos don’t go above 16MP and 1080P, respectively.

The two aforementioned factors have already made Google Photos one of the most-used applications in the world, but Google still believes there’s room for improvement. In an attempt to make the Photos app more social, Google is introducing a new private messaging feature on all platforms — Android, iOS, and Web. And this piece is all about exploring whether this addition is making the already great Photos app even better.

What is Chat in Google Photos

Google Photos automatically backs up all the photos in your stock gallery app, but there are still some photos, usually shared on instant messaging services, that don’t make their way into Google’s repository. So, in an attempt to remedy the situation, Google has introduced private messaging in the app, which would allow you to share your photos with any individual or group in a heartbeat.

What can you share in Chat

Everything you can store, you can share. Yes, that means both photos and videos. To share a video, simply follow the steps mentioned in the previous section.

What’s the quality of photos and videos

Google Photos will maintain the default backup quality. If you were backing up in High quality, your photos will be shared in high quality, as well. If you had opted for Express, your photos will have a lower resolution.

How it is different from live albums, shared albums and shared libraries

As Google clarifies, this new private messaging option is a lot more straightforward and social. Most of us like to have the option of sharing instantaneously, especially when we are considering a single snap. Creating a shared album or shared library, with pre-selected participants, can feel a lot more tedious on such occasions. Google has understood the need of the hour and wishes to rectify it with the help of this reworked messaging option. Select a photo, choose participants, open a thread — it’s that simple.

Can you group share in this?

Yes, group share has also been made simpler in Google Photos. At the time of sharing a photo/video, simply pick the participants, add an optional message, and start chatting. You can also add participants by tapping on the ‘+’ icon adjacent to the last group member’s name.

How to download photos and videos from chat?

Saving a photo/video from a private conversation is also pretty straightforward. Simply tap and hold a photo, go to the three-dot menu, and save to device. The photo will be ready for offline viewing in your gallery.
