How to download the correct firmware file

This is an important part!

Be sure to check and find the correct model no. of your Galaxy A7. Then, based on your device’s model no., look for the appropriate firmware build from above.

Now that you know the model no., download the latest firmware from above for that model no. exactly.

Next, install the firmware on your Galaxy A7 by following the guide linked right below.

How to install a firmware

First, read our disclaimer, then take backup and then follow the guide below to install the firmware.

Disclaimer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup, backup, backup! Create an appropriate backup of contacts, pictures, videos, songs and other important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have a backup of all your important files. Sometimes, firmware installation may delete everything on your device! Like, when you change the CSC of your device, knowingly or not.

Step-by-step Firmware Installation Guide

Let’s see how to install the firmware on your Galaxy A7. Make sure you have more than 30% battery on your device.

Step 1. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file on your PC. See above for how to download correct firmware file for your Galaxy A7 and download links.

Step 3. Also, download Odin PC software (latest version).

Step 5. Extract the Odin file. You should get the Odin exe file (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Step 6. Disconnect your Galaxy A7 from PC if it is connected.

Step 7. Boot into download mode:

Power off your device. Wait for 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.

Press and hold the three buttons Volume down + Home + Power together until you see the Warning screen.

Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Step 9. Connect your device now using the USB cable. Odin should recognize your device. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in the bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.

If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with the device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).

You can try different USB ports on your PC too.

Load the firmware files(s) on your device. This depends on how many files you got in step 4 above upon extracting the firmware .zip file.

Case 1: If you got a single .tar/.tar.md5 file, then load this into AP tab of your Odin software. Then go to next step.

Case 2: If you got more than one .tar/.tar.md5 file, then you must be having files starting with AP, CSC, Home_CSC, BL, CP, etc. stuff. In this case, choose the files as follows. Select the firmware files as follows.

About CSC file: Using the HOME_CSC file won’t reset your device, and data on the phone shouldn’t be deleted. However, when we select regular CSC file, and it results in CSC on the device being different than that in CSC file, your phone will be formatted automatically. You can even choose to ignore loading the CSC file, that may do alright too. But if it doesn’t work out, repeat the whole process and select CSC file this time around.

Info: When you load files, Odin checks the md5 of firmware file, which takes time. So, simply wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also show up in Odin.

Go back to Log tab now, as it will show the progress of firmware installation when you hit the start button in next step.

Wait till installation is finished, after which your device will reboot automatically. You’ll get PASS message as shown below upon successful installation from Odin.

Some errors you may run into, and with respective solution.

If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do this all again. Disconnect your device, close Odin, boot device into download mode again, open Odin, and then select the file and flash it again as said above.

If you get FAIL in the top left box, then also you need to flash the file again as stated just above.

That’s it. Let the device restart automatically.

Htc U11 Review: You Won’T Buy This, But You Should

In a year where tall, skinny displays are increasingly commonplace, the U11 looks a little… wide. With the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 both adopting narrower touchscreens, and the iPhone 8 expected to do the same later in 2023, HTC’s decision to stick with a 16:9 aspect panel does leave it behind the curve. The company’s argument is that the value-add for a completely new aspect ratio still hasn’t been demonstrated, though it concedes that its stance might change over time if app design embraces taller, thinner phones.

Nonetheless, the 5.5-inch QHD display HTC selected gets no complaints. Colors are bright, though short of the punchy saturation you either love or hate AMOLED for. Brightness levels are sufficient for outdoor use. Underneath it there’s a slightly recessed, touch-sensitive home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and is flagged by Android’s back and task-switcher buttons. Would they be better served by on-screen replacements? Maybe, though then HTC would’ve had to move the fingerprint sensor and, having seen the ergonomic mess Samsung made of that on the S8, I’m somewhat reassured the U11 didn’t have the opportunity to make the same mistake.

The U Ultra charged flagship money for a mid-tier processor; the U11 doesn’t make the same mistake. Inside the glass and metal chassis is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage; there’s a microSD slot for augmenting the latter. Honestly, I’ve sworn off mobile benchmarks because they’re too readily gamed and rarely give any useful insight into how a device performs bar bragging rights on a Top Ten chart. What’s more important to me is how a phone feels day-to-day.

On that front, I can’t complain about the U11. Apps load quickly, switching between them is lag-free, and the whole phone generally feels snappy and responsive. For sure, that’s what you’d expect – what you should demand, no less – from a modern flagship running the latest silicon, but it’ll come as no surprise to Android users to hear that it’s not always the case.

I’m also pleased to see HTC embracing water-resistance, though the U11 doesn’t quite live up to the Galaxy S8 and G6 there. With an IP67 rating, it’ll handle splashes, dust, and brief dunkings in shallow water: up to 30 minutes, in up to 3.3 feet of water. No, this isn’t the phone to take into the pool with you, but it’s a valuable reassurance to have nonetheless when you realize you just dropped your expensive smartphone in the sink (or, worse still, in the toilet). [Ed: updated to clarify water resistance levels at IP67]

HTC BoomSound makes another evolution. If you were hoping for the return of the twin front-facing speakers then I’m afraid you’ll continue to be frustrated, but I’d say it’s worth giving this new iteration a chance. As with the HTC 10 it combines the earpiece and a bottom-mounted speaker, but the latter has a far larger reverberation chamber on the U11. The result is frankly astonishing levels of both volume and clarity from a phone audio system, quite possibly the best on the market today.

Huawei and its online-centric sub-brand Honor do not have an impressive track record when it comes to the availability of the latest updates. After having struggled in the past few years, Asus finally appears to be coming back to solid ground and two devices which have helped it regain its popularity are the ZenFone Max Pro M1 and the flagship 5Z. Naturally, these are two deserving candidates for the update along with just one more device. The list includes:

Oppo wasn’t very well known outside Asia until the launch of the slider camera phone – Find X. The brand was also a part of Android Pie’s developer preview testing but it didn’t attract a lot of attention. So far, there’s only one phone which has been promised to get Android Pie and that is Oppo R15 Pro which got the DP builds.

Vivo Motorola

Since the launch of the very first G-series smartphone, Motorola has adopted a stock Android route but updates haven’t followed through very quickly. Motorola has promised it will begin working on the Android Pie update shortly but has not updated on the list of devices which will be getting the update. However, it’s easy to expect these devices will make it:

Samsung does not believe in following trends. Updates are seemingly not a priority for the company and it is still working to update a long list of devices to Oreo. Don’t worry if your phone is not on the list as the benevolent developer community should soon bring official support for most of the devices. Only a day after the official launch, Android Pie was unofficially launched for more than 20 devices and you can check out the list here.

Download Canada Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 Update

We just brought you the news that Android 5.1.1 update has been released for the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Canada.

Now, we have full firmware available for you to download, with an installation guide to help you update to Android 5.1.1 manually.

Do note that it won’t be easy too root G900W8VLU1COI4 firmware on Android 5.1.1, as you will need a custom kernel for this. So, until a custom kernel comes out, flashing only SuperSU via TWRP recovery won’t work.

But yes, once a custom kernel supporting root access comes out, you will be definitely able to root your Galaxy S5 on G900W8VLU1COI4. We will update this page when a custom kernel is available, so be sure to check that.

Backup!

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1. Download the firmware file and Odin PC software from above.

Step 4. Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 chúng tôi (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Step 5. Disconnect your Galaxy S5 from PC if it is connected.

Step 6. Boot Galaxy S5 into download mode:

Power off your Galaxy S5. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.

Press and hold the three buttons Volume down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.

Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Step 8. Connect your Galaxy S5 now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your device. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.

If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).

You can try different USB ports on your PC too.

Step 10. Make sure Re-partition check box is NOT selected, under the Options tab. Don’t use PIT tab either. Go back to Log tab btw, it will show the progress when you hit start button in next step.

If you get FAIL in the top left box, then also you need to flash the file again as stated just above.

That’s it.

Enjoy your Galaxy S5 on Android 5.1.1 update, here’s hoping performance of the device is improved as well.

Well, root access isn’t available for OI4 update as of today, the 15th October. So, you can’t root build G900W8VLU1COI4 right now, but be assured that once root is available, we’ll let you know.

We need to wait for custom kernel supporting root access actually, and once that is available, we can install that first, and then flash SuperSU to gain root access. Let’s hope it becomes available soon enough.

I9300Xxdlh8: Latest Android 4.1 Update For Galaxy S3

With just a day to go before Samsung will supposedly be rolling out the official Jelly Bean Android 4.1 firmware update for the Galaxy S3, another Jelly Bean firmware has leaked for it, having the version number XXDLH8, which indicates Samsung is working very hard at getting the update out as soon as possible.

If you have the T-Mobile Galaxy S3, you can try out its leaked Jelly Bean firmware → here.

With each firmware leak, people have noticed bug fixes and performance improvements, so if you’ve been trying those previous leaked firmware out, you should also try out XXDLH8.

Keep in mind that this is a leaked firmware, so it might have some serious issues or bugs, which might make it unstable for every day use, so you should wait for the official update to come out if you’re not comfortable with manual flashing. But you can still try it out, as you can always flash back to an Android 4.0 firmware later if needed.

Let’s take a look at how the XXDLH8 Jelly Bean Android 4.1 firmware can be installed on the Galaxy S3.

Compatibility

This guide to install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware is compatible only and only with the international Galaxy S3, model number i9300. It’s not compatible with the US variants or any other device. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About phone.

How to Install i9300XXDLH8 Jelly Bean Android 4.1 Firmware on Galaxy S3

Filename: I9300XXDLH8_I9300OXADLH8_I9300XXLH8_BTU.zip

Extract the I9300XXDLH8_I9300OXADLH8_I9300XXLH8_BTU.zip file to obtain the following files:

Note: If you don’t get the Odin3_v3.04.zip file after extraction, you can download it here.

Extract the contents of the Odin3_v3.04.zip file to a folder on your computer. Odin is the software we will be using to flash the firmware on the phone.

Now, turn off your Galaxy S3 and wait for some 5-6 seconds after screen goes off to allow it to shut down completely.

Then, put the phone into download mode. To do so, press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Home + Power till the screen turns on. Then press Volume Up to enter download mode. You can flash a firmware only from download mode.

If you don’t get this message, make sure you installed drivers correctly (using Kies or directly) as given in step 1. If it still doesn’t work, try changing to another USB port on the computer and also use the USB ports on the back if you have a desktop PC.

Important! Do not make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required files as given in step 11. Leave all other options as they are. Make sure Re-Partition check box is NOT selected.

What to do if Odin gets stuck or doesn’t do anything: If ODIN: 1) gets stuck on setup connection, or 2) at any stage of this process after you’ve hit the Start button, and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, or 3) if upon completion of the process you get a FAIL message (with red background) in ODIN, then in all these scenarios, do this: disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery for 4-5 seconds, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 7.

So, perform these steps for doing a Factory Reset:

Boot into 3e recovery mode — turn off the phone by removing and re-inserting the battery, then press and hold Home + Volume Up + Power keys together till you see the Samsung logo, and then let them go of keys to boot into recovery. Once you are in recovery mode, use volume keys to move the selection up and down and home/power key to select the option.

Go to Wipe data/Factory Reset and select it. Select Yes on next screen.

Then, select reboot system now to reboot the phone, which will now restart/boot properly.
