At the top, we have a Menu bar that has different menus such as File, Edit, Image, and some others. These menus helps us in the management of different parameters of this software during our working in this software. Below this menu bar, we have a bar of Properties of active tool or image through which we can manage parameters of those tools or images. Below this bar, we have tool panel a left side which has a different type of tool for making our work easy in this software, at the center we have display window in which we can see our work, at the right side we have some panels which helps in the management of different features of this software. You can reset all the sections at a different place as per your choice.

Now press Ctrl + J button for making a copy of this layer.

Now it will look like this.

Choose Red in the Output Channel option of the opened box and make the red value as 0 and blue value as 100.

Choose Blue in the Output Channel option of the opened box.

And make the red value as 100 and blue value as 0.

Now choose the Reds option from the list in Hue/Saturation box.

Decrease the value of Hue of Reds up to -40. You can see the effect on your image.

Decrease the value of Hue of Yellows up to -45. You can see the effect on your image.

Now choose Blues option from the list in Hue/Saturation box.

Decrease the value of Hue of Blues up to -60. You can see the effect on your image.

Now place an image of old television effect in this software. I have downloaded it from the internet.

Adjust the size of this image as it covers your background image like this and press Enter button.

Decrease the opacity of this layer up to 45 %.

Now a dialog box of liquify option will be open. Adjust the size of the brush according to you.

Now choose 50 % Gray option from the list of Fill box and press Ok button of this dialog box.

Set the value of noise up to 70 % in the Add Noise box and press the Ok button of this box.

Choose the Soft Light option from the mode option of this layer.

Decrease the opacity of this layer up to 53 %.

This is the final result of your Vaporwave effect.

G-code is a popular numerical computer programming code that is used in machinery and industries. Machines such as 3D Printers, laser cutting machines, vinyl printers, and cutters and machines used mills and factories use G-code. These machines are computerized and use G-code to identify the speed, variation, and nature of the material. Inkscape is a vector program that has a special extension to create and prepare G-code programming with utmost accuracy.

How to create G-code in Inkscape?

Chiefly, G-code is used by the machines to designate coordinates or vertices of X, Y, and Z positions. The main purpose of having this programming language is to command and direct the instruments such as a marker pen, or razor blades, drilling tools in mills, or cords emission tools that perform and create required results.

G-code is not a program but a code language used specifically by machines only. The Files used by G-code are determined by the projects and results that are expected out of the machines. For instance; a 3D printer will only support 3D files while a wending or cutting machine will require a 2D file.

With the 1st method, users can create G-Code for Inkscape files with the Plugins and Extensions already available in the program.

While in the 2nd method the users will require an additional program to convert and view the G-code and the output.

Method 1

Since we all know that Inkscape is not a 3d program. So, to use G-code for 3D printers we need to create a 3D effect to get the desired results. This technique is proficient but, it may sometimes be a confusing or time-consuming process for the users. Still, without utilizing any external program, Inkscape is capable to create G-code for machine purposes.

Following are the steps to create G-code in Inkscape:-

Launch Inkscape

Create a new file

Create any shape on this layer

Again add a layer and copy the same shape on this layer

The shapes should be adjusted in such a conduct that they appear as a 3D shape with hard edges.

Similarly, different boxes will be created with the other layers as well. The user can modify the settings from the boxes.

Wait for the process to be completed and you will get a program for the 3D printer to print your design.

Method -2

In this method, we will create a 2D vector shape on Inkscape, save the file in SVG format. Then, we download an additional open-source program called Slic3r to convert our file into a G-code program for printing purposes.

Following are the steps to create a G-code file:

Launch Inkscape and create a new File.

Save the file in .svg file format

This is an online website that converts the .SVG files to 3D shapes in .STL formats.

Import the .SVG File on the website, edit the depth of the shape, and export the same to .STL file format.

Next, download a third party open source program Slic3r.

Import the .STL file in the program

The file will be exported in G-Code format for printing purposes.

Conclusion

Creating programs and codes using G-code language can be a puzzle if all the steps are not performed systematically and incorrect order. Very different from other vector programs, Inkscape provides a hassle-free platform for the users to generate G-codes for 3D machine printing. Now take Ellipse or Circle tool from the tool panel or press F5 shortcut key of the keyboard then draw a circle and make a moon-like shape like this. I use the Node editing tool for editing nodes of this circle.

This is part of the hand and I want to make them as one part because I used two different rectangles for making it so for making them one part I will select them.

I have made part of this object separately like this so that I can animate them by moving them in the desired direction. During creating any object which you want to animate make sure you have separated parts of that object which parts you want to include in animation.

Now I will take the Circle tool again and make this type of circle for giving extra effect to my animation. After making these circles select all circles and group them.

Now select this circle and make a copy of it. For making a copy of it press the Ctrl + d button of the keyboard as short cut key. I will make two copies of it and place them like this by moving them with the selection tool.

Choose a location where you want to save your png of this illustration. I will suggest making a folder for having a collection of all frames of this illustration for using them in animation. Name your illustration according to you just add a numbering letter so that you can identify the sequence of frames in the right way. I will name my work as 1.

Now you can see my work is saved at my desired location.

Now I will rotate this hand of the moon so that I will move in my animation. I will move the rotation center of the hand at the joint of the hand to the body because I want to rotate it from here. So make sure you place the rotation center point at that place from where you want to rotate any part of the object.

Now rotate another hand of it in the same way in the other direction.

I will animate the eyes of the moon also and for doing this I will rotate both of the eyes a little bit in opposite directions one by one.

In the next step, I will move the upper lip in the upper direction a little bit and the lower lip in the lower direction one by one.

And move slightly these circles in a forwarding direction one by one.

Now I will select all objects of this illustration again with the background then save it as 2 in the same way as we follow for 1 png frame.

In the next frame, I will only move circles in a forwarding direction and export it as a 3 png file.

Make changes in each frame according to your choice and save them one by one in sequence. I saved 5 frames here but we need more than it for having motion in our animation.

Now open it in the image viewer application and change each frame by pressing the forward button of the viewer application in speed and you can see your animation here. If you satisfy with this animation then take all frames of animation into the software through which you can make gifs with this frame. You can use GIMP for having gif from these frames.

Photoshop has many features and tools that you can use to add creative elements to your images, such as creating a neon effect on your text. This effect can be added to any text or shape and makes them pop by adding a glow through lighting effects. 

Adding the neon effect to your text may seem difficult at first, mostly because of the numerous steps it takes to apply the effect. However, the process is fairly simple and I have broken it down into easy-to-understand steps to help you nail this effect!

How To Make The Neon Text Effect In Photoshop

When making neon text, you need to start with a dark background to allow the text to stand out. The neon effect will get lost if done on a light background. 

So to begin, open an image for your background in Photoshop as the base to create the neon text.

Step 1: Add Your Text

To create neon text, you first need to choose a suitable text for your project. Try to avoid bold fonts as these fonts don’t work well when adding the lighting effects. For this example, I am using the free font, Library 3 AM but you can also use fonts such as Mexcellent, Hello Denver Display, or Foglihten.

Start by adding text in the middle of your canvas by selecting the Text tool from the toolbar or pressing T.

Font: Library 3 AM

Font size: 150pt (or as needed)

Font color: Blue (R0 G15 B255 or #000FFF)

Select the checkmark once you have changed the text settings. You will now have the text on the image in the correct size and color.

Step 2: Prepare Your Layers

Next, prepare the text layer for the effects that will create the neon glow. To do this, duplicate the text layer by dragging the layer to the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel or press Control + J (Win) or Command + J (Mac). 

Step 3: Add A Bevel & Emboss Layer Style

To create the glow, the text should look like bulbs or tubes that the glow is coming from. To create this look, you need to add dimension to the text. Then you can add the glow and the gradient around the text.

This will all be done by adding several layer styles to the text, starting with the Bevel & Emboss layer style to round out the text.

To add the Bevel & Emboss effect, select the Layer Style icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose Bevel & Emboss from the menu.

In the Bevel & Emboss panel, adjust the settings to create the right effect for your text. Check the box next to preview to see how the settings affect the image, so you can see how the effect works with your text.

You can tweak these settings as needed, but use the following settings as a starting point:

Style: Inner Bevel

Technique: Smooth

Depth: 150%

Direction: Up

Size: 20px

Soften: 0px

Angle: 0°

Global Light: Uncheck

Altitude: 60°

Gloss Contour: Linear

Anti-aliased: Check 

Highlight Mode: Linear Light with 80% Opacity

Shadow Mode: Multiply with 15% Opacity

Next, add a Contour to the text by checking the box next to Contour on the left panel and checking the anti-aliased box. You can level the Range at 50% or adjust it as needed.

Once you have changed the settings, your text should have a rounded look with areas of white creating a highlighted look on areas of the text.

Step 4: Add An Inner Shadow Layer Style

This Inner Shadow layer style gives the inside of the text a bit of depth to create the bulb-like look.

Now use the settings below as a guide. Adjust them based on your text and the effect you want to create if needed.

Blend Mode: Screen

Color: A variation of your first color, in my case, I used #2F3BFF

Opacity: 100%

Angle: 20°

Use Global Light: Check the box

Distance: 30px

Choke: 52%

Size: 15px

Your text should have a lighter look to it with more areas of the text highlighted. Your text may vary slightly based on the settings you use to make your unique neon sign.

Step 5: Add An Inner Glow Layer Style

The next layer style to add is the Inner Glow. Keeping the Layer Style panel open, select the Inner Glow from the left menu. The Inner Glow will highlight the inside of the text slightly.

Change the following settings in the panel with your own adjustments as you would like. 

Blend Mode: Screen

Opacity: 75%

Color: A lighter version of the inner shadow color, here I used #6770FF

Technique: Softer

Source: Center

Size: 15px

Range: 50%

The text should start having a glowing look with the lighter colors you have now added.

Step 6: Add A Drop Shadow Layer Style

The next Layer Style to add to the text layer is the Drop Shadow which will separate the text from the wall, to make it look as though the neon sign was placed on the wall. To add the Drop Shadow, select the last option at the bottom of the Layer Style menu on the left.

Then add the following settings to create the shadow behind the text. Adjust the angle to best suit your text so it stands out slightly from the wall.

Blend Mode: Multiply

Color: Black

Opacity: 55%

Angle: 20°

Use Global Light: Check the box

Distance: 25

Size: 15

Your text should now look separate from the wall and have more depth. This is done by creating the subtle shadow behind the text.

Step 7: Add A Stroke Layer Style

Next, add a Stroke Layer Style to the text to add an extra glow around the text. To do this, select the Stroke option from the left-hand menu in the Layer Style panel.

Change the Stroke settings as follows, keep an eye on your own text to make adjustments as you need.

Size: 30px

Position: Center

Blend Mode: Screen

Opacity: 65%

Overprint: Check the box

Fill Type: Gradient

Gradient: Basic

Style: Shape Burst

Align with Layer: Check the box

Angle: 90°

Scale: 100%

The text will now have a glow surrounding it to create the lighting effect that makes up the neon glow. Your text should look something like this.

Step 8: Add The Gradient Lights Surrounding The Text

To complete the neon glow effect, we need to add a glow around the text to mimic the light that would fall on the wall around the lit sign. This will finish off the effect.

To add the gradient glow, create a new layer by selecting the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and placing it underneath the Text Glow layer.

Adjust the Brush tool settings in the Options bar by changing the following settings.

Size: 1800px (depending on your canvas size, make the brush as large as three letters of the text)

Mode: Screen

Opacity: 10%

Then drop the Opacity even lower to paint further away from the text, in this case, I used 4% opacity. 

Lastly, lower the Opacity of the brush layer to lighten the brush effect slightly. You can take it down to about 75%.

Now you have a lit neon sign effect on your text. The end result of the image should look similar to the image below based on how bright you want your text to look and how much fall-off of light you want to have on the wall.

How To Add Neon Glow Effects To Shapes In Photoshop

The neon effect can then be added to any type of shape you would like. If you are planning to add a shape to your text sign, then you can simply copy the settings across to the shape instead of re-doing each step. You can even save these settings and copy them to a new project to keep the same settings across multiple documents.

Once the Custom Shape tool is selected, choose a shape from the drop-down menu in the Options bar that offers various types of default custom shapes. I will select a flower shape from the Flowers group.

Next, adjust the stroke size and color of the shape to make it more visible on your canvas. You can change these settings in the Properties panel as long as the shape is selected. I have set the stroke size at 7.41px and changed the stroke color to the same blue I used for the text.

Once the settings for the shape are correct, you can simply copy the layer styles that created the neon effect on the text and paste them onto the shape layer.

Once you paste the layer style onto the shape layer, you will notice that it has copied all of the layer styles from the text layer onto the shape layer.

You will also notice that the flower on your canvas has the neon glow effect added to it as well. You can then repeat Step 8 from earlier (painting a colored glow) if you want to add an extra glow around the flower.

Make The Text And Shape Stand Out

If you want your text and shape to stand out from the background, you can darken the background even more. To do this, select the Rectangle shape tool from the toolbar or press U.

Draw the rectangle around the entire canvas and set the Fill color to black in the Properties panel.

Move the rectangle layer below the text, brush, and shape layers so it’s only above the background layer in the Layers panel.

Then change the layer’s Opacity to 45% in the Layers panel.

Your text and shape will now stand out even more against the background, you can adjust the Opacity of the new fill layer as needed. Another way of doing this is to add a vignette to the background image.

So whether you want to add a neon glow effect to text or shapes in Photoshop, following these steps will make the process quick and easy!

How To Polarize An Image In Photoshop

Photoshop is a raster graphic software from Adobe. Photoshop offers a lot of options to enhance images and add or remove unwanted attributes. Knowing how to polarize an image in Photoshop is great. Polarizing an image is making the image look like it was taken with a polaroid camera. The image would be made to have less reflection. The polarize effect reduces the intensity of the image.

How to Polarize an Image in Photoshop

Polarizing the image in Photoshop will not make it look fully like it would if it was taken by a camera with a polarizing filter. However, the polarizing effect can make the image less intense, and reflections can be reduced. Effects in Photoshop will not look identical on every image. the colors and other things in images will make the effect look different in each image.

When the image is placed in Photoshop, it is time to duplicate it. duplicating the image helps in cases where you do not want to accidentally edit the original. Duplicating the image also helps when you use certain blend modes to mix the edited copy and the original image.

3] Desaturate the image

The next step is to desaturate the image. Desaturate is to remove the color from the image.

You can desaturate the image non-destructively by placing an Adjustment layer above the image layer. To create the Adjustment layer select the image in the layers panel then go to the top menu bar then select Layer then New adjustment layer then Hue/Saturation.

The New layer option will appear, you can give the adjustment layer a name then press Ok to create the Adjustment layer. The adjustment layer will appear above the image layer.

The Hue/Saturation properties window will appear near the layers panel. You will see some sliders, slide the Saturation slider to the left. You will see the image change as you move the saturation slider. This method of desaturating the image allows you to choose the level of desaturation that you want.

This is the image when it is desaturated.

4] Convert the image to a Smart object 5] Apply Gaussian blur filter

This step required you to add a Gaussian blur filter to the desaturated image. To apply the Gaussian blur select the image then go to the top menu bar and select Filter then Blur then Gaussian blur.  

6] Change the blend mode 7] Add Levels adjustment layer

In this step, you will want to adjust the brightness levels of the image. The way to do this is by using a Levels adjustment layer.

8] Create a clipping mask 9] Use the brush tool

This is the final polarized image.

What is the Polarize effect used for in Photoshop?

The polarize effect is one of the few effects that are equally effective with color imaging and with black-and-white. The polarize can be used to minimize or eliminate reflections in glass, and other surfaces except for metal. The polarize effect can darken skies in color photos as well as in black-and-white. it can make the skies look bluer in images. If you look at the final image above, you will notice that it has a more matted less shiny finish compared to the original.

Layers are flattened to combine them into one artwork. A Photoshop document is made up of multiple layers. Layers are like transparent pages that are used to hold different elements and effects that make up an artwork. when you are finished working on the artwork you can choose to flatten them. Flattening them will give a smaller file. You can flatten when the whole project is finished or when certain steps are finished. This means that an editable Photoshop document can contain flattened and un-flattened layers. When you save the Document in certain file formats such as JPEG the layers are flattened. Layers that are flattened can no longer be edited.

In the previous lesson in this series on image size, we learned how to resize images for email and for sharing online using the Image Size command in Photoshop. In that lesson, we saw that by changing the number of pixels in the image, the image size in megabytes also changed. More pixels meant a larger file size, and fewer pixels made the file size smaller.

But how does that work? What does the number of pixels in an image have to do with its file size? In this quick lesson, I’ll show you exactly how pixels and file size are related, and how the colors in your image also play an important role. By the end, you’ll know how to easily figure out the size of an image on your own, and you’ll know exactly where that image size number comes from in Photoshop’s Image Size dialog box!

To follow along, you can open any image in Photoshop. I’ll use this photo that I downloaded from Adobe Stock:

Where to find the current image size

To view the current size of your image, go up to the Image menu in the Menu Bar and choose Image Size:

This opens Photoshop’s Image Size dialog box, with a preview window on the left and the image size options along the right. The preview window was added in Photoshop CC:

The current size, both in pixels (px) and in megabytes (M), is found at the top. The number next to the words Image Size shows the amount of space that the image is taking up in your computer’s memory. And below that, next to the word Dimensions, is the width and height of the image in pixels.

In my case, my image is taking up 42.1M of memory. And it has a width of 4700 px and a height of 3133 px. In a moment, I’ll show exactly how the image size and pixel dimensions are related:

How pixels and color affect the image size

To really understand how the number of pixels in an image affects its file size, we also need to know how Photoshop displays the colors in your image. That’s because pixels alone don’t create the file size. Much of the size comes from the way Photoshop displays the color of each pixel.

Most full color images use what’s called RGB color. RGB stands for “Red, Green, and Blue”, which are the three primary colors of light. Every color you see in your image is made by mixing some combination of red, green and blue together.

Then I’ll switch over to the Channels panel, which you’ll find next to the Layers panel. And here we see the Red, Green and Blue channels that Photoshop is using. The RGB channel at the top isn’t really a channel. It represents the full color image that we’re seeing on the screen:

All colors in your image are made by mixing red, green and blue.

How do color channels affect image size?

Each of the three color channels (Red, Green and Blue) takes up exactly 1 byte in memory for each and every pixel in the image. For example, if your image contained 10 pixels, each pixel would need 1 byte for red, 1 byte for green and 1 byte for blue, for a total of 3 bytes.

Of course, most images contain millions of pixels, not just 10. But the amount of memory that each pixel needs doesn’t change. It’s always 3 bytes for every pixel; one for red, one for green and one for blue.

How to calculate the file size

So to figure out the file size of an image, all we need to do is take the total number of pixels, multiply it by 3, and we have our answer! Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Find the total number of pixels in the image

First, we need the total number of pixels, and we find that in the Image Size dialog box. I’ll re-open it by going back up to the Image menu and choosing Image Size:

And again, we see in the Dimensions section that my image has a width of 4700 px and a height of 3133 px:

To find the total number of pixels, multiply the width and height together. In this case, 4700 pixels x 3133 pixels = 14,725,100 pixels. That’s a lot of pixels. But as we learned, the pixel count alone isn’t the whole story.

Step 2: Multiply the total number of pixels by 3

Remember that each pixel in the image needs 3 bytes in memory; one for the Red channel, one for the Green channel, and one for the Blue channel. So to find the total file size, in bytes, multiply the total number of pixels by 3. In my case, 14,725,100 pixels x 3 bytes per pixel = 44,175,300 bytes.

Step 3: Convert the image size from bytes to kilobytes

We have our total file size in bytes. But a byte is a very small unit of measurement, so it’s not very practical to refer to the size of an image in bytes. Instead, we usually talk about image size in either kilobytes or, more commonly, in megabytes.

One kilobyte is equal to 1024 bytes. So to convert bytes to kilobytes, divide the total number of bytes by 1024. With my image, 44,175,300 bytes ÷ 1024 = 43,139.94 kilobytes (or KB).

Step 4: Convert the image size from kilobytes to megabytes

Even kilobytes is too small of a measurement type to be very practical for most images. So instead, we usually refer to file size in megabytes. One megabyte is equal to 1024 kilobytes. So to find the total image size in megabytes, divide the number of kilobytes (43,139.94) by 1024, which gives us 42.1 megabytes (or MB, although for whatever reason, the Image Size dialog box shortens “MB” to just “M”).
