Introduction to SketchUp Rendering

SketchUp Rendering is a process through which we can represent or see a photorealistic view of our designed 3D model. By rendering, we can understand how our model will look with applied material in the real world with all the material aspects (environment, sun light, etc. )around it. There is a number of rendering plugins through which we can do realistic rendering for our model, and V-ray is one of the effective plugins in this case. With V-ray, we get high quality of rendering and use its material to improve the material’s quality that we have applied to our model. So you have to go through some settings for getting the best result in rendering. So let find those settings and the process of rendering.

How to perform rendering in SketchUp?

We can perform rendering by making some adjustments to the parameters of the V-ray plugin. Of course, there are many more things in V-ray which you have to learn gradually but let me tell you what are those parameters and settings on which you have a good command for having the best rendering effect. Before we start, let us make a simple model that we will use in the rendering process. Then, you can apply the below-discussed rendering settings on your own model.

I will first take the Rectangle tool from the tool panel, which is at the top of the working screen, or press R as its shortcut key.

Now i will make a rectangle like this and then offset it at some distance with the help of the Offset tool. I am not taking any specific dimensions for creating this model.

Now i will make a door and window gapping area in this simple house like a model.

If there is no Material Panel, you can have it by going Window menu of the menu bar and going to the Default Tray option of the drop-down list of it; then, in the new drop-down list of this, you will find the Materials option.

I will apply tile material to the wall of this house model.

Now let us move to the V-ray plugin, and you will find V-ray plugins in the Extensions menu, and in the drop-down list of it, we will have a V-ray option. You can see this option here in the list if you have installed it.

Now i will place these panels at the toolbar area like this because they are moveable.

There is one more button here in this panel: Render Interactive, which means with this rendering button, you can see live changes (that you make in your model) in your render dialog box during the rendering process of your model.

Then enable V-ray (option of Denoiser) by sliding its slider button in the On side direction.

You can play with parameters of Ambient Occlusion for having variation in output. I will leave them as it is.

One more option is Render with Chaos Cloud, which means it will render your model on Cloud so that you can connect your model render online with others.

Conclusion

Now you can understand rendering in SketchUp very well and adjust parameters of V-ray plugins for getting the best output result of the rendering process of your model. I told you just one plugin for rendering in SketchUp, but you can try other plugins for the rendering process to analyze their output quality.

Kdenlive Not Rendering Videos? How To Fix

For all its abundant features and editing options, Kdenlive can sometimes throw a wrench in the video editing process. And when problems emerge right at the point of rendering or exporting videos, things can get frustrating, to say the least.

There are a number of things that could lead to problems with rendering in Kdenlive. In this guide, we’ll show you a few fixes that can help solve problems with rendering. Without further ado, let’s get started.

How to fix Kdenlive not rendering videos [7 ways explained]

From corrupted temp files to bad environment paths, the list of possible problems is long. But besides issues with Kdenlive files and well-known bugs, bad project settings can also lead to Kdenlive failing to render your videos. Here is a look at a few common fixes for issues related to Kdenlive rendering.

Fix 1: Uninstall and then install the latest version

If you’re using an older Kdenlive version, installing and updating to the latest version can fix a lot of the problems. There have been known bugs with earlier Kdenlive versions that have caused issues specifically with rendering projects.

Select Uninstall.

Then run the setup and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version of Kdenlive. To know more about installing and setting up Kdenlive, refer to our guide on How to download, set up and install kdenlive on Windows.

Related: How to use Kdenlive on Windows: Step-by-step guide

If the update doesn’t work, then you might have to try the next method first and then install the latest Kdenlive version.

Fix 2: Delete the Kdenlive Appdata folders

Kdenlive can leave behind a few temporary file folders after uninstallation. Sometimes the incongruency between these and any newly created temporary files can cause problems, especially if you’re installing a different, newer version of Kdenlive.

In such a case, you will have to manually delete these temporary file folders created by Kdenlive before a new installation. The following are the folders that you need to delete:

C:Users(username)AppDataRoamingkdenlive

C:Users(username)AppDataLocalkdenlive

C:Users(username)AppDataLocalstalefiles

Once you find these folders, hold down the Shift key and then press Delete. This will delete them for good.

Note: Deleting these files will force Kdenlive to recreate them and can also help in situations where they have become corrupted.

Fix 3: Make sure you have the video in the timeline

For those who know how to use Kdenlive and other similar video editing tools, this may be an obvious thing. But many users make the mistake of importing the files into Kdenlive but not transferring them to the timeline before attempting to render. The result is, as one would expect, that nothing is rendered because there’s nothing in the timeline to render.

So, at the cost of stating the obvious, make sure you transfer your media to the timeline once it is imported to Kdenlive. Doing this is as simple as dragging and dropping them from the project bin to the timeline, like so:

Make the necessary edits, then select Render under “Project” in the toolbar above.

Fix 4: Enable proxy clips in Settings

If the source files used in the video are moved or deleted from their original location, Kdenlive can end up rendering videos that are completely white, or have missing elements. In such cases, restoring the source files to their location when they were imported and then rendering again can do the trick.

But a better alternative is to enable proxy clips for your project. This will allow Kdenlive to create proxy clips of your media so that even if you move the source clips around, it will still have the proxy clips to rely on when rendering.

Users have benefitted from using proxy clips in the Kdenlive project when rendering to bypass any issues that might be preventing them from exporting their videos. Here’s how to enable proxy clips in your Kdenlive project.

Then select Project settings.

Now when you go to render your file, select Use Proxy Clips in the “More options” section.

You will be able to render your video without worrying about moving the source files around.

Fix 5: Disable Parallel Processing

Using paralleled processing with CPUs that have multiple cores can help share the workload and reduce rendering time. But if your CPU is not multi-cored, using parallel processing can actually cause more damage to your output video, and even raise render time.

What’s worse is that parallel processes may also render disjointed artifacts instead of a whole video – something that is known to occur even with multi-core CPUs. So, the prudent thing would be to avoid it altogether. To ensure this, make sure Parallel Processing is unchecked in the “Rendering” window.

Fix 6: Ensure that project files are uncorrupted

Corrupt source files are one of the main causes of render failure, be it for Kdenlive or any other video editing app. If Kdenlive can read but is otherwise unable to parse the files in any way, rendering is not going to produce the expected results.

Even if you’re using proxy clips, you will first have to ensure that the source files which are used to generate proxies or copies are in working order.

How to tell if a file is corrupted?

One way to tell if the file is corrupt is by running it with its default application. If the file refuses to play or takes longer than usual to do so, it is quite likely a sign of corruption.

You can also check the properties of the file (press Alt+Enter after selecting it) to check its size and details. Compare this to a similar file, or a copy of the file if you have any, and check for discrepancies. If the file details are scrambled or if the size is unreasonably larger or smaller than a similar file, you’ve got corrupt files on your hand.

Fix 7: Ensure that the MLT environment has the correct codec paths

Kdenlive relies on the proper codec files to read, write, and render media files. These codecs are automatically installed upon installing Kdenlive. But if you have recently updated (or downgraded) Kdenlive, you might have to check if the paths to the codec files are correct.

Then select Configure Kdenlive.

Here, make sure that the codec executables are all in their correct location. These will be as follows:

FFmpeg – C:/Program Files/kdenlive/bin/ffmpeg.exe

FFplay – C:/Program Files/kdenlive/bin/ffplay.exe

FFprobe – C:/Program Files/kdenlive/bin/ffprobe.exe

MLT profiles folder – C:/Program Files/kdenlive/share/mlt/profiles

Melt path – C:/Program Files/kdenlive/bin/melt.exe

If there are any discrepancies here you will continue to get render issues. So make sure the paths are pointing to the files where they’re supposed to. Once this is done, Kdenlive will be able to use these codecs properly and render files without any hiccups.

Learn How To Create G

Introduction to Inkscape G-code

G-code is a popular numerical computer programming code that is used in machinery and industries. Machines such as 3D Printers, laser cutting machines, vinyl printers, and cutters and machines used mills and factories use G-code. These machines are computerized and use G-code to identify the speed, variation, and nature of the material. Inkscape is a vector program that has a special extension to create and prepare G-code programming with utmost accuracy.

How to create G-code in Inkscape?

Chiefly, G-code is used by the machines to designate coordinates or vertices of X, Y, and Z positions. The main purpose of having this programming language is to command and direct the instruments such as a marker pen, or razor blades, drilling tools in mills, or cords emission tools that perform and create required results.

3D animation, modelling, simulation, game development & others

G-code is not a program but a code language used specifically by machines only. The Files used by G-code are determined by the projects and results that are expected out of the machines. For instance; a 3D printer will only support 3D files while a wending or cutting machine will require a 2D file.

With the 1st method, users can create G-Code for Inkscape files with the Plugins and Extensions already available in the program.

While in the 2nd method the users will require an additional program to convert and view the G-code and the output.

Method 1

Since we all know that Inkscape is not a 3d program. So, to use G-code for 3D printers we need to create a 3D effect to get the desired results. This technique is proficient but, it may sometimes be a confusing or time-consuming process for the users. Still, without utilizing any external program, Inkscape is capable to create G-code for machine purposes.

Following are the steps to create G-code in Inkscape:-

Launch Inkscape

Create a new file

Create any shape on this layer

Again add a layer and copy the same shape on this layer

The shapes should be adjusted in such a conduct that they appear as a 3D shape with hard edges.

Similarly, different boxes will be created with the other layers as well. The user can modify the settings from the boxes.

Wait for the process to be completed and you will get a program for the 3D printer to print your design.

Method -2

In this method, we will create a 2D vector shape on Inkscape, save the file in SVG format. Then, we download an additional open-source program called Slic3r to convert our file into a G-code program for printing purposes.

Following are the steps to create a G-code file:

Launch Inkscape and create a new File.

Save the file in .svg file format

This is an online website that converts the .SVG files to 3D shapes in .STL formats.

Import the .SVG File on the website, edit the depth of the shape, and export the same to .STL file format.

Next, download a third party open source program Slic3r.

Import the .STL file in the program

The file will be exported in G-Code format for printing purposes.

Conclusion

Creating programs and codes using G-code language can be a puzzle if all the steps are not performed systematically and incorrect order. Very different from other vector programs, Inkscape provides a hassle-free platform for the users to generate G-codes for 3D machine printing. On the whole, Inkscape is an accomplished program having multiple functions and tools for every purpose.

How To Perform A Swot Analysis For Your Digital Brand

Learning Through The Example of SWOT Analysis: Nokia

In “Encyclopedia of Management Theory” Eric Kessler wrote “companies that keep analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats on a regular basis have 60 percent more chances to survive than the companies that don’t”. Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (known by its abbreviation SWOT) is one of the most renowned and used analysis paradigm for marketers.

In this modern age of communication, promotion, and marketing, we still cannot defy the importance of SWOT analysis. We have seen digital brands conducting SWOT analysis on a whole new level. Only through the SWOT analysis did digital ad agencies realize the importance of a viral post versus old practices of email marketing and press releases. Granted, that is totally a different debate, in this post we will analyze how a SWOT analysis can help  a company to devise its marketing plan according to its strengths and opportunities while tackling threats and weaknesses. So, first of all, let’s look at what makes up a SWOT analysis.

What is SWOT?

Threats (T): Elements and situations in the environment which can cause trouble to the business or brand.

Before going digging deep into the steps of conducting SWOT analysis of a digital brand, let us see how beneficial it is for the companies.

Benefits of Using SWOT Analysis

A rigorous SWOT analysis that includes feedback from numerous sources can be a very long process, but the benefits of discovering ideas and new information offer a very sobering result. There is a ore time effective option. All organizational processes, departments, and sites can initiate separate analyses and specific results can be channeled to upper management. This provides a bottom-up analysis of the organization and endows management with a detailed view of every organizational segment. By breaking down the organization and asking individual departments and managers to conduct a compartmentalized SWOT, precious time can be saved, yet still allow for a vigorous examination of the organization.

SWOT Analysis for Nokia

Nokia Corporation is world’s leading company providing mobile devices, telecom equipment, and mobile content services.

Step 1:

The first step to conduct a SWOT analysis is to know the numbers, and by numbers we mean revenues in a fiscal year. Search Yahoo Finance, Google Finance, and MSNBC for financial readings. You can also download company’s annual report from the company’s official website. When we search Nokia on these platforms we found the following information:

Recorded Revenues (December 2012): $38.808.8 million

Decrease (since 2011): 21.9%

Operating loss (December 2012): $2,961.8 million

Net loss (December 2012): $3,994.6 million (Statistical Data Source: Nokia Annual Report 2012)

Analysis: As we have learned through statistics that Nokia is facing losses, the next step is to search for probable reasons.

Step 2:

Now we use search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, and MSN with keywords like “Nokia decline reasons” and “Nokia decline” and set the time for “past month” in search tools. The results will yield several research papers and articles about the reasons behind Nokia’s decline. Skim through the articles and research paper summaries.

Analysis: Credible and authentic resources may include (but are not limited to) Harvard business review, Forbes, Inc, Time, Yahoo Finance, Google Finance, Hongkiat, and Techcrunch. Prepare a table like below and add points from your online research.

Strengths Weaknesses Diversified geographic presence Lower margins as compared to peers Opportunities Threats Positive outlook for smart phone and tablet market Declining average selling prices could impact profitability

Note: You can add as many points as you can for your digital brand in the table, however keep in mind that each point must be precise, specific, and fit in the column’s description. For example, we may replace in our weaknesses column “Weak economic outlook for the US and Europe” with “weak buying power” but in order to portray a true and precise picture to the reader of the SWOT analysis we prefer to mention US and Europe as the potential marketplace.

Step 3:

Once you are finished with the points, now it is time to elaborate each point in detail and back it up with data (financial and annual reports) and research reports.

Analysis: For the purpose of providing an example, we will take one point each from the above columns and elaborate with data and research findings.

Fairly spread business operations (Strength): Nokia has fairly spread business operations and presence in various industries. Nokia’s portfolio of smartphones covers price points ranging from around E140 ($180) to more than E500 ($643). In FY2012, Nokia’s smart devices unit shipped approximately 35 million smartphones. Nokia also offers mass market and affordable smartphones. In FY2012, Nokia shipped approximately 300 million mass market and affordable smart phone devices. (Statistical Data Source: Nokia Annual Report 2012)

Legal proceedings may affect brand image (Weakness): The company is involved in several legal and administrative proceedings which could affect brand image. For instance, in January 2013, InterDigital Technology and InterDigital Communications filed a new complaint against Nokia with the International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging infringement of a single declared essential UMTS and LTE patent, and also filed a parallel case asserting the same patent in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. Through this action, IDT is seeking to exclude certain Nokia devices from being imported and sold in the US.

Strategic acquisitions boost top-line growth (Opportunity): The company has completed a number of acquisitions in the recent past which will boost its product portfolio and provide top-line growth. For instance in June 2013, Nokia completed the acquisition of Siemens’ stake in Nokia Siemens Networks.

Intense competition in the devices and services segment (Threat): The company faces intense competition in the devices and services business. The increasing demand for wireless access to the internet has had a significant impact on the competitive landscape of the market for mobile products and digital content. Companies with roots in the mobile devices, computing, internet, and other industries are increasingly competing for market share across all mobile products and services.

Wrap Up

It is essential and vital for businesses and companies to conduct SWOT on a regular basis, especially before launching a new product. Marketing professionals and students should master the art of conducting a SWOT analysis in order to be able to analyze marketing positions for their clients.  Before you make definitive decisions regarding the future of a brand or company, it is essential to make sure you have all relevant information, which as SWOT analysis can provide.

Finally, a SWOT can assist an organization in devising creative problem solving and strategic planning solutions for both short- and long-term initiatives. It can provide insight to isolate a cause, identify a problem, provide additional support for existing processes, and lead to strategic pathways for new proposals, projects, and ideas.

Learn How To Create Some Objects?

Introduction to Inkscape animation

Inkscape animation stands for creating frames for animating some objects of any illustration work that means in animation we have the number of frames which change within a fraction of time and give motion to animating object so here in the Inkscape we can create these frames by making changes in the different part of the object or different object of the illustration which we want to animate and after creating them we should need a software which converts that frames in animation that means you can make Gif by combining these frames. So let us find how we can create and save frames of an animation in Inkscape.

Now let us create some objects in which we will make variations for having frames of animation. I will make a background first. So for making it, I will take the Rectangle tool from the tool panel or press the F4 functional key of the keyboard as the shortcut key of this tool.  I am drawing a freehand rectangle you can take specific dimensions for it. I will choose the blue color as my background.

Start Your Free Design Course

3D animation, modelling, simulation, game development & others

Now take Ellipse or Circle tool from the tool panel or press F5 shortcut key of the keyboard then draw a circle and make a moon-like shape like this. I use the Node editing tool for editing nodes of this circle.

This is part of the hand and I want to make them as one part because I used two different rectangles for making it so for making them one part I will select them.

I have made part of this object separately like this so that I can animate them by moving them in the desired direction. During creating any object which you want to animate make sure you have separated parts of that object which parts you want to include in animation.

Now I will take the Circle tool again and make this type of circle for giving extra effect to my animation. After making these circles select all circles and group them.

Now select this circle and make a copy of it. For making a copy of it press the Ctrl + d button of the keyboard as short cut key. I will make two copies of it and place them like this by moving them with the selection tool.

Choose a location where you want to save your png of this illustration. I will suggest making a folder for having a collection of all frames of this illustration for using them in animation. Name your illustration according to you just add a numbering letter so that you can identify the sequence of frames in the right way. I will name my work as 1.

Now you can see my work is saved at my desired location.

Now I will rotate this hand of the moon so that I will move in my animation. I will move the rotation center of the hand at the joint of the hand to the body because I want to rotate it from here. So make sure you place the rotation center point at that place from where you want to rotate any part of the object.

Now rotate another hand of it in the same way in the other direction.

I will animate the eyes of the moon also and for doing this I will rotate both of the eyes a little bit in opposite directions one by one.

In the next step, I will move the upper lip in the upper direction a little bit and the lower lip in the lower direction one by one.

And move slightly these circles in a forwarding direction one by one.

Now I will select all objects of this illustration again with the background then save it as 2 in the same way as we follow for 1 png frame.

In the next frame, I will only move circles in a forwarding direction and export it as a 3 png file.

Make changes in each frame according to your choice and save them one by one in sequence. I saved 5 frames here but we need more than it for having motion in our animation.

Now open it in the image viewer application and change each frame by pressing the forward button of the viewer application in speed and you can see your animation here. If you satisfy with this animation then take all frames of animation into the software through which you can make gifs with this frame. You can use GIMP for having gif from these frames.

I discussed all steps here through which you can create frames for an effective animation.

Conclusion

I think you got very informative knowledge from this article for creating the animation of your desired objects of illustration. You can also use vector objects which you have been taken from the internet for this purpose just make sure you have separated parts of that object so that you can really move them for having natural animation.
