Suggested March 2024 Macos High Sierra 10.13.2 Update Released With Bug Fixes

Apple has released macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 for the general public. The software update includes multiple bug fixes and is said to improve the stability, security, and compatibility of High Sierra, and is thus recommended for Mac users running High Sierra to update to.

Separately, MacOS Sierra and Mac OS X El Capitan users will find Security Update 2023-002 Sierra, and Security Update 2023-005 El Capitan available for their respective operating system releases. Those security updates are also recommended to install for Mac users running 10.12.6 and 10.11.6.

Specific issues mentioned in the release notes for MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2 include improvements for certain USB audio devices, VoiceOver Navigation for PDF files in Preview, and improving Braille displays with Mail app. Presumably the 10.13.2 final update also includes a permanent fix to the root login bug and networking bug that surfaced in prior versions of MacOS High Sierra.

How to Download and Update macOS High Sierra 10.13.2

Always back up a Mac before installing any system software update, the easiest way to do that is with Time Machine on a Mac.

Pull down the  Apple menu and choose “App Store”

Go to the “Updates” tab and choose to download and update “macOS 10.13.2 Update”

The High Sierra system software update is labeled with the update label “macOS 10.13.2 Update 10.13.2” in the Mac App Store.

Security Updates for macOS Sierra and Mac OS X El Capitan

Mac users running Sierra and El Capitan will instead find the “Security Update 2023-002 Sierra” and “Security Update 2023-005 El Capitan” available in the Updates section of the Mac App Store.

Though security updates are small, it’s still recommended to backup a Mac before installing them.

Only Getting Audio In One Earbud? Here’s How To Fix This Macos Bug.

I immediately assumed Google’s new affordable earbuds were the culprit. After all, there have been reports of connectivity issues. But I was wrong. This is not a Pixel Buds problem—it’s a macOS problem.

Users have been reporting this bug for years. Apple has repeatedly updated its operating system, but the glitch just keeps resurfacing.

How to know you’re the victim of a macOS audio balance bug

To start, remember that (sadly) we live in a world where it’s totally normal for Bluetooth speakers, headphones, and earbuds to freak out from time to time. So before you jump to any conclusions, you’re better off going through all the classic troubleshooting techniques: turning your machine’s wireless connection off and on again and disconnecting and reconnecting your gadget. If that doesn’t work, try rebooting your computer and checking for a firmware update for your audio accessory.

[Related: MacOS Big Sur has an annoying Do Not Disturb bug. Here’s how to fix it.]

With other glitches, we’d also suggest checking for a new macOS patch—and you can if you’re feeling lucky. But there are reports of this glitch that date back to the Catalina days in 2023—that’s two entire macOS versions ago. Given this precedent, our guess is that if Apple hasn’t fixed this problem yet, it’s unlikely it’ll do so with a small patch.

If none of the go-to troubleshooting methods work, you’ll need to run some basic diagnostics. To find out exactly where the problem is, try connecting your audio gadget to another device, like your smartphone or tablet. If the issue persists, you’ll know the problem is not your Mac computer. But if your earbuds or headphones work fine, you’ll need to focus your attention on your machine.

To rule out the possibility that your computer is simply not playing well with audio equipment, try pairing it with another set of wireless speakers. If you’re still only hearing from one side, you’ve found a macOS audio balance bug.

How to fix macOS’ audio balance bug

The solution for this incredibly annoying problem is surprisingly simple: just open up Settings and go to Sound. There, under the Output tab, you’ll see a slider right next to Balance. You’ve probably never even touched this option before, but don’t be surprised if you see the slider is all the way to the right or left—that’s what the bug does. Just move the slider to the center and your problem should be solved.

At least momentarily.

Some users have reported using this fix only to have the issue resurface at a later time. Some have even said this happens to them constantly and having to correct that setting over and over again is truly exhausting. If the bug just won’t go away, know that there’s an app for that: it’s called Balance Lock, and its only purpose is to lock the audio balance of your macOS machine in place. Download this free tool from the App Store, install it, and you’re good to go.

Hopefully, there will be a time when we won’t need an extra tool so our machines do what they were supposed to do by themselves. Until then, it’s good to have a solution.

Apple Macos Big Sur Will Be Officially Released On November 12

macOS Big Sur

The first and most obvious change in the new firmware is the UI change. The OS is named after another landmark in California and features one of the comprehensive changes to macOS since the days of Mac OS X. The apps now come with new color schemes, transparency effects, and rounded corners, a translucent menu bar, a new floating dock, and a new set of app icons. The update also introduces new checkboxes, sliders, sheets, sounds, and symbols as well as a brand new iconography. Buttons appear and disappear on the application window as require. The menu bar items are now more space out. Putting all together, the entire UI is completely changed from what macOS users were used to.

Safari has been further improved on Big Sur

macOS Big Sur also features improvements to its core applications. Apple’s traditional browser Safari comes with a start page featuring customizable background images and sections like iCloud Tabs and Reading list. Interestingly enough, the browser can detect when you’re on a page with non-native language and offer to translate it for you.  According to Apple, Safari is much faster now promising 50% faster performance than Chrome on frequently visited websites. That’s another feature that was a focus in the development of 2023 Apple operating systems – seamless native translation. Safari’s Tab UI has also changed with increased tab density. Users can even close a group of tabs at once. Furthermore, Safari energy consumption has been improved. The company states that it offers 3 hours of more streaming videos and an hour longer of web browsing when compared to Firefox or Chrome.

Worth noting that Apple’s Safari is also getting extensive support for extensions. It will allow developers to bring in their extensions from other browsers. Users will be able to download extensions for Safari through Mac App Storage. The company has built-in enhanced privacy features for these extensions, preventing how much access they have to your data. You can also choose to allow an extension to have access for just one day, for just one particular site, or all the time. Since we’re talking about security, Apple also placed a Privacy report button on Safari. It allows the user to know which trackers are being blocked by the browser. Safari will also check your saved passwords to see if they were involved in a data breach.

Messages receive the same treatment as its iOS 14 counterpart

Maps get a deserved revamp

Another important application, Maps, was also revamped. Just like messages, it has been updated to feature the same set of changes as the iOS 14. That includes guides for exploring places where you can use guides from other users or create your own.

It also brings a Look Around feature for a 360-degree view of destinations and indoor maps of airports and shopping centers. Cycling and Electric Vehicle trips also got some love from Apple since these trips can now be routed on a Mac and sent directly to your iPhone.

Other features include

Expanded Editing Capabilities within the Photos App

HomeKit secure video notifications

Deeper Web Knowledge for Siri

AirPods automatic device switching

Listen Now as the new Home for Apple Music

Windows 10 Slow After Update? Possible Fixes!

Windows 10 Slow After Update? Possible Fixes! Are you experiencing slow performance on Windows soon after you have updated it? This article covers the best possible fixes. Why Does Windows 10 Slow After Update? Methods To Fix ‘Windows 10 Slow After Update’

If you are facing slow working Windows 10 computers, check out these methods listed in the article below. By the end of this you’ll be sorted with the slow Windows 10 problem. Read on further to  know more.

If you are pretty sure that your Windows is performing slow immediately after installing the latest update, it is recommended to instantly roll back the update. To roll back Windows updates, you do not require to have a focused tool. Windows 10 owns a built-in utility to roll back Windows updates. Here’s how:

Head to Windows Settings from the Start Menu.

Navigate to Update & Security.

This way you can uninstall the updates that you think might be the cause of a slow performing Windows computer.

Method 2: Repair Damaged Files

Head to Windows search box and type in Command Prompt.

Select the top result and choose to Run as administrator.

Now, type in sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Wait for the process to finish. Close the cmd window and restart your PC.

Once the scan is complete, it will fix the problems that might have occurred due to corrupt files.

Here’s how to terminate these unnecessary apps and make your system perform better.

Open Windows Settings either from the Start menu or press Win + I key directly.

Head to Privacy and choose Background apps.

Now, choose which apps you can filter to run in the background app. Toggle on the apps you want in the background, else turn off all unimportant apps.

Reboot your computer to apply changes.

While you can use cryptocurrency to make purchases, most people treat it as a long-term investment. However, to avoid risk it is important to know which top 10 cryptocurrencies have high potential in upcoming 2023 and beyond.

Ethereum started a strong increase above the $1,600 level against the US Dollar. ETH is up over 15% and might even clear the $1,700 resistance zone. The second largest cryptocurrency undoubtedly finds its place in the list of the top cryptocurrencies worth investing in. There are many reasons why this altcoin has grabbed attention. Its potential applications, particularly the smart contracts that automatically execute when conditions are met, are one of the top reasons.

After everything is trading in red in the crypto space, Dogecoin price made a refreshing spike and may even more than double in price by the end of 2023, according to analysts’ long-term price forecast. Being the original and top meme token, Dogecoin is killing it in the crypto game. DOGE has seen a slight gain of 0.5% as seen in the past 24 hours. As of press time, DOGE is currently trading at $6.2. Dogecoin is currently the world’s 10th largest crypto in terms of market cap. USD Coin

Cash Bitcoin Cash’s supply is capped at 21 million coins. It also reduces the rate of mining by almost 50% every four years, which indicates that its circulating supply also keeps decreasing. Due to coin burns, its market value has witnessed a price hike.

Fix Common Problems With Macos Time Machine

Time Machine is a great, convenient backup tool, but it doesn’t always work perfectly. Fortunately, the most common problems have relatively straight-forward solutions. Here are some fixes for common problems with macOS Time Machine.

Time Machine won’t back up

After updating to Sierra or High Sierra, some users find that Time Machine simply won’t back up. Fixing the problem requires an SMC reset and a PRAM reset.

SMC Reset

1. Shut down your Mac.

2. If you can remove the battery or disconnect the power cable, do that. Wait ten seconds before proceeding.

3. If you cannot disconnect the power, use a keystroke instead. After your Mac shuts down, press Shift + Control + Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the Power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for ten seconds.

4. Plug the power cable back in or replace the battery if you removed it.

PRAM Reset

1. Turn on the computer.

2. Press and hold Command + Option + P + R. Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts again and you hear the startup chime twice.

3. Continue booting as normal.

Drive is read-only

If your drive’s permissions have been damaged, you will often be prevented from writing to the disk. To address this problem, you can try to repair the problems with the disk. The simplest method requires diskutil in Terminal. Keep in mind that this can be a result of early problems with the disk itself. It might indicate that there’s a problem with the drive. You may need to consider replacing the drive if this problem appears more than once.

1. Open Terminal from “Applications/Utilities/” or type “Terminal” into Spotlight.

2. List the attached disks by typing diskutil list.

3. Locate the partition used for Time Machine. Find the device and disk number, formatted like disk1s5, as in our example.

4. Verify the volume by typing diskutil verifyVolume [volume name]. In our example we would use diskutil verifyVolume /dev/disk1s5.

5. If you find any errors, run disktuil repairVolume [volume name].

Time Machine hangs on “Preparing Backup”

One of the most common bugs in Time Machine involves hanging on the beginning of the backup process.

If the Time Machine process is starting or appears to be lagging, open the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences.

Look for the text underneath the Time Machine progress bar.

If the backup is progressing properly, it should show the number of items remaining to be processed. That number should be steadily, if slowly, increasing. If you don’t see that number increase over 30 minutes, you’ll need to take action.

Troubleshooting the Problem

1. Uncheck the box next to “Back Up Automatically” in the Time Machine preference window. This will disable Time Machine and stop any backup processes.

2. Make sure Spotlight is not indexing your backup by adding your Time Machine volume to the Privacy pane of the Spotlight preferences window in System Preferences.

3. Find and remove the “.inProgress” folder. You’ll find that folder in the “Backups.backupdb” folder on your Time Machine drive. It will have a name like 2024-05-04-175540.inProgress. When you find that folder, delete it.

4. Turn Time Machine back on.

Time Machine is extremely convenient, but it can be a troublesome backup tool. While it has become more reliable since its introduction, problems still occur. Time Machine shouldn’t be your only backup tool, but it is useful as part of your backup process.
