Set up your PC for multiple displays

Hopefully you use more than one display with your desktop and/or laptop, and you can buy great monitors on sale right now. They’re hugely productive, and if you’re worried about desk space, go vertical instead.

With Windows 11, you’ll want to do two things: “Arrange” your displays within Windows, and make sure you have your “primary” display picked out.

Why choose one over the other? Because you may instinctively know which icon corresponds to which, no matter if you wear glasses or not. But adjusting the text size may allow you to avoid paying for bifocals while still using Windows effectively.

Get the Windows 11 Taskbar the way you want it

Of all the options here, extending your Taskbar to all of your displays (red) as well as hiding unnecessary icons (blue) are probably the most important.

Skip the Start menu entirely

If you want an even faster method, simply type Win plus the number of the icon on the taskbar to launch that program—so opening the first taskbar program would be Win + 1, the second would be Win + 2, and so on. Beware, though, as Microsoft appears to have switched up how it counts the icons. On my PC, the “first” icon is File Explorer, not the Start, Search or virtual desktops icon to its left.

7 More Tips And Tricks To Master Cortana

Windows 10 is full of great features, and Cortana is definitely one of them.  You can do all sorts of things with Cortana, but you probably haven’t had the time to figure out all the things she can do. Here are seven more things you can do with her.

1. Ask Cortana to Sing for You

She can do a lot of serious and useful tasks, but she also has her fun side. Simply say, “Cortana, sing me a song” or you can use the classic line of “what does the fox say?” You’ll get a human-like voice and not one that sounds like a computer.

2. Have Cortana Do Specific Search Queries

You want Cortana to open your work folder, but until now you’ve only had her open your folders in general. With the following tip you can have Cortana open your work folder directly. Just type “Folder: Work.”

First, specify the search category and then the kind of folder you want her to open. This is just an example; you can also try options such as “Apps:” “Edge:” “Music:” “Imagine Dragons:” and so on.

3. Manually Track Your Packages

Cortana can automatically scan your emails to track packages you bought. But what if someone else bought it for you or you’re using a different email that is not set up in the email app? Not to worry, you can still track the package by adding a tracking ID.

Cortana can track your package with carriers such as FedEx, USPS, UPS, and DHL. It can also track your packages from Amazon, eBay, Microsoft Store, Apple, Target, and Walmart. Open Cortana and type in your tracking number. You can start tracking your package once Cortana validates it.

4. Have Cortana Update You with the Latest News

It can be embarrassing when your friends are talking about what’s been all over the news, and you have no idea what they’re talking about. Swipe up from the app screen, and Cortana will let you know what’s going on in the world and with the things you’re interested in.

5. Eliminate Topics You Don’t Want Cortana to Show You

Cortana wants to keep you informed, and that’s why she will show you info on all sorts of subjects. That could clutter things up since you might not be an academic fan and couldn’t care less if Cortana showed you that kind of information.

6. Turn Cortana into Your Personal Technical Support

There are things that for some are very easy while the same things for others can be tough. If you don’t want to bother your techie friend, you can always turn to Cortana. You can ask her things such as how to change your desktop background or how to change your default programs.

The nature of the question will determine if Cortana will answer it or if she will direct you to a Bing support page.

7. Disable Cortana on Your Lock Screen

Having Cortana on your lock screen can be very helpful when you want to look something up quickly. But that means someone who picked up your device can also do the same thing without your permission. That also means they can read your messages and your calendar events.

If you were ever curious and have browsed the content of your computer from time to time, you may have noticed something interesting.

Those of you that have a 64-bit version of Windows 10 installed have 2 folders labeled Programs, the only difference being that one is also noted with (x86) at the end.

Besides these 2 folders, 64-bit versions of Windows also come with two separate DLL library folders, known as System32 and SysWOW64.

Many of you may be curious as to what precisely is the purpose of these folders. That is precisely why we’ve created this article: to explain the difference between System32 and SysWOW64 folders in Windows 10.

System32 vs SysWOW64 in Windows 10 1. System32

System32 contains Windows system files, both .DLL library files used by programs and .EXE program utilities which are a part of Windows. Additionally, most of the files that are present here belong to the Operating System.

However, third-party applications can come with their own DLL files, and they can be stored here as well.

Finally, regardless of where you actually install a program, the system-wide libraries that they use ar regularly located in System32 and SysWOW64.

2. SysWOW64

The 64 in the name actually refers to the fact that it can also contain Microsoft’s Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit software, which is a part of the operating system.

This is what lets Windows to run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit version of Windows.WoW64 automatically redirects file access to ensure programs will work properly.

There are two possible scenarios when installing a program:

If you install a 32-bit program on a 64-bit version of Windows and it tries to write to the C:Program Files folder, WoW64 directs it to C:Program Files(x86)

If it wants to access the C:WindowsSystem32 folder, WoW64 points it at C:WindowsSysWOW64

On a 32-bit computer, the data is stored as follows:

Why are the names so confusing?

In the end, it seems that it all boils down to habits and hardcoding. 32-bit applications were hardcoded to use the C:WindowsSystem32 directory.

When they were recompiled for 64-bit versions of Windows, developers continued to use the C:WindowsSystem32 directory. As such, the library kept its name in order to avoid complete coding overhaul.
