Suggested January 2024 March 2023 Core Update: What’s Changed? Early Insights & Reaction

Reaction and feedback to Google’s March 2023 Core Update (a.k.a., Florida 2) is generally more upbeat than negative. A common theme among many in the SEO community is that Google’s March 2023 Core Update is behaving like a rollback of previous updates.

Interestingly, some publishers noted connections to links and their rankings.

In the weeks leading up to this update I had noticed numerous reports of aggressive spidering by GoogleBot. I don’t know if there’s a connection between aggressive spidering, links and the update. But it was interesting to see that in the lead up to the update.

UPDATE: Google Names Update ‘March 2023 Core Update’

There has been a ludicrous amount of discussion and debate about the name of this update. But now we have an official name, via Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison.

We understand it can be useful to some for updates to have names. Our name for this update is “March 2023 Core Update.” We think this helps avoid confusion; it tells you the type of update it was and when it happened.

Brett Tabke on the March 2023 Core Update

Brett Tabke is the founder of WebmasterWorld marketing forum and Pubcon Search, Social Media, Marketing Conferences. Tabke is someone I regard as one of the founders of modern SEO.

Many SEO practices we take for granted originated through ideas Brett suggested on WebmasterWorld. The acronym SERPs was invented on WebmasterWorld.

“Well, as you can tell from the Google forum, we are a little too early too tell.

Originally guidance from Google was this was going to be one of the largest updates we’ve seen in “a very long time” (their words). So far, it doesn’t appear that is the case.

In fact, I think we may be seeing a rollback of a few of the last updates.”

Tabke’s insight about the update seeming to appear like a rollback is a well-stated observation. A common theme among many publishers is how their sites are bouncing back from previous algorithms.

SEMrush on the March 2023 Core Update

I reached out to SEMrush to see if they could share any data or early findings about Florida 2. Here is their response:

Right away, I can tell you the basic things that we see in Sensor about Florida 2:

4. Most affected categories so far are Autos&Vehicles, Health and Pets&Animals

WebmasterWorld Discusses the March 2023 Core Update

“Traffic on several sites that were abused by Penguin have rebounded significantly. …I’d given them up for dead. Then noticed affiliate earnings on them this morning for the first time in a year. Traffic was way up. (400 uniques a day to 2500)”

Another WebmasterWorld member immediately responded with a similar anecdote of a formerly penalized site that has also returned to ranking again.

Then further down in the discussion, another member stated:

“…there is definitely an anchor text link element to the changes today. I have a huge amount of exact match links thanks to the copy & paste box I’ve had on my site since about 2002 that used to contain an exact match link. All my well established pages that have exact match links are getting trashed, but the new pages I put up a few months ago that have hardly any links yet are doing fine and even gaining.”

Black Hat Reaction

I would caution that correlations between anchor text optimization and ranking changes are unreliable. While it may seem like the anchor text optimization was the cause it could more likely be an issue with the quality of the site where the link was obtained.

The low quality of a link can have a delayed reaction from Google. What typically happens is the link works then it stops working as Google devalues the power of the link.

An over-optimization manual action results in a warning in the Google Search Console. Everything else is usually a devaluation of a link.

In the black hat forums, the reaction was more upbeat than down. More black hat forum members were posting gains then members who were posting losses.

March 2023 Core Update Summary

As Tabke observed, it’s still early to reach conclusions. But it’s helpful to get a snapshot of where the digital publishing community stands today in reaction to Google’s update.

Google has in the past revealed details of major changes to their algorithm. If the update formerly known as Florida 2 is indeed a major change, as was telegraphed to Tabke, then I expect Google at some point in the near future to reveal some general details of what changed.

News Roundup 15Th March 2023

This week saw Facebook’s family apps get into trouble, leaving billions of people across the world unable to access accounts or upload content.

Advertisers have shared concerns about the possible effects of Brexit in the wake of continued uncertainty.

An independent review has led to the UK government to call on the CMA to look at competition in digital media.

Finally, Facebook has removed a network of around 100 fake accounts, pages and groups after they were found to be working together to spread head speech.

Find out more about all of these stories in our latest news roundup.

Facebook outage affects billions worldwide

Wednesday (March 13th) saw Facebook and all of its products suffer the most severe outage ever. The social media platform experienced a global disruption that left it, as well as Instagram and WhatsApp, mostly inaccessible for over 14 hours.

The last time Facebook had issues like this was in 2008 when users were unable to access the platform for an extended period of time. However, this only affected the site’s 150 million users. Today, Facebook alone has around 2.3 billion users, with Instagram and WhatsApp also having a large number of followers.

Issues began to arise on Wednesday afternoon and although Facebook announced on Twitter that it was working to address the issues, the apps only seemed to improve on Thursday morning.

Rumours soon began circulating on other social media platforms that the issues were caused by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. However, Facebook took to Twitter to deny that this was the case. However, the platform has yet to reveal exactly what the cause of the outage was.

“If the broader environment is disrupted then we will see impacts to the vibrancy and spend in our sector as well as disinvestment at a commercial level.”

WHO calls for stricter online ad regulations to protect children’s health

“We are using the wrong ammunition for a very significant problem. These technological innovations make our restrictions void – they no longer work in this context,” Dr Breda said at the launch of WHO’s report.

“We need to know more about children to understand how to protect them in the best possible way,” said Dr Breda. “We need to know how old they are, whether they are boys or girls, where they are from, their social economic status. We even need to know what sort of digital device they use.”

Government requests UK digital ad market competition review

UK chancellor Philip Hammond has called on the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to launch a review of the UK’s digital ad market and the dominance of Facebook and Google.

This request follows on from the results of an independent report that was commissioned by the government. The report found that tech giants do not face enough competition, which results in consumers having less choice. According to the report, the UK’s competition framework doesn’t currently suit digital markets and the economic challenges that they create on a local and global scale.

Following these findings, the independent report recommends a formal look at both tech giants to assess their market influence. It also suggested that rules relating to company mergers are needed to allow the government to have more power to step in when digital acquisitions are set to take place that could affect competition and ultimately leave consumers with less choice.

Writing to Lord Tyrie, the chairman of the CMA, Mr Hammond said: The CMA’s expertise and information gathering powers make it uniquely placed to shine a light on this sector, which has been widely described as lacking transparency, and when appropriate to make recommendations to government.”

The CMA has said that if there is an orderly exit from the EU, which will provide it with the resources, it will indeed launch a review to assess the way in which regulation can affect competition.

Facebook removes fake account network spreading hate speech

Facebook has successfully removed a network of over 100 accounts and pages that were being used to propagate hate across the UK via the social media platform. The accounts were removed due to “coordinated inauthentic behaviour” across its social networks. This is the first time Facebook has taken this action accounts based in the UK that were attempting to influence members of the British public.

According to Facebook, the pages and accounts removed were spread over both Facebook and Instagram. Some were set up as far-right activists while others were created to be their opponents.

Around 175,000 people followed the fake pages on Facebook, which had names like “Anti Far Right Extremists” and “Athiest’s Research Centre”. A further 4,500 people followed the pages on Instagram, said Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy.

He continued to say that while Facebook has been making progress when it comes to stopping this type of abuse of the social media networks, it continues to be a challenge. One of the reasons for this is the people responsible for networks like this tend to be “determined and well-funded.” As a result, Facebook needs to constantly improve in order to stay ahead of the perpetrators.

The platform also works closely with law enforcement and security experts to counter activities like this, with Mr Gleicher saying that “Their collaboration was critical to these investigations.”

Amazon Fba Income In Early 2023!

Keep reading this article to find out how you can make money using Amazon FBA and how much the Amazon FBA seller’s salary is.

What is Amazon FBA?

The famous acronym FBA stands for Fulfillment by Amazon and refers to the comprehensive sales system the American company offers its sellers.

Amazon FBA is simple; sellers send their products to a large Amazon warehouse or fulfillment center. There, they will be classified and prepared for shipment. Amazon will immediately ship the product when its sale occurs on the portal.

This is the reason why shipping times are so short. With Amazon FBA, the product is already in the hands of Amazon when a customer buys it. Therefore, to provide a more precise definition to the question of what Amazon FBA is:

FBA is a storage and distribution service that Amazon offers sellers on its platform in exchange for a fee and sales commission for each product.

What are the Ways of Making Money from Amazon FBA?

One of the most well-known business opportunities on Amazon is to sell products there yourself. The Amazon FBA program makes things incredibly easy. Amazon takes care of the storage and shipping of your products, and returns are also processed directly via the platform.

As a seller, you can start selling wholesale goods and private-label products. With the former, the competition is much greater, but you don’t have to worry about things like product design or manufacturing yourself. With private label products, you create your own products and brand. This needs more effort but also offers significantly more options and freedom.

You can also start making money with Amazon FBA using the retail/online arbitrage business model. Retail arbitrage means buying discounted products from stores like Walmart, Target, etc., and selling them at a higher price on Amazon, eBay, or any other marketplace. Online arbitrage is the same process but does not require visiting brick-and-mortar stores because you can do the whole process online.

How Much Money Do You Need to Start Your Own Amazon FBA Business?

Since the product costs vary, we can hardly determine a specific amount. It is possible to start with as little capital as $500. However, Amazon is a platform that supports serious and long-term businesses and places great emphasis on customer satisfaction. To be successful here, you need high-quality products, an operational cash flow, and the right marketing strategies, among other things.

A starting capital of $3,000 is a good starting point. With a budget of this size, you can get off to a good start and invest in growing your business right from the start.

The amount of capital required always depends on the market and demand. If a product sells particularly often, you need sufficient money to avoid going out of stock and have the ability to reorder products in time.

How Much Can You Make in the Beginning?

There is no general answer to this question. Your profits can be $500 or $1,000 per product. But it can also be $5,000 or $10,000 with a product that performs well.

So, your profits are primarily dependent on the capital that you have. Of course, many people break the mark of $10,000 or $20,000 in monthly sales faster. This is because they start with $10,000 or $20,000 capital instead of $500. This gives them greater leverage.

But how much can you ultimately make with an Amazon business? We can’t give a general answer without having exact facts and figures.

Generally, it would be best if you aimed for something between $8,000 and $10,000 in sales per product every month. That should be the benchmark you determine for yourself. But remember that the income is not generated passively.

Which Products Have More Selling & ROI on Amazon?

There are some products on Amazon that always sell. The competition here is tough, but so is the demand, so it’s easy to find a niche you’re interested in.

Here are the best products you can sell on Amazon:

1) Books

A boring category at first glance, the book business on Amazon is constantly evolving. More and more readers use devices like Amazon Kindle and subscribe to the latest hams through Amazon Prime and Unlimited.

2) Clothing

One of Amazon’s greatest assets is the freedom it gives sellers on its platform. In addition to the free choice of product images, there are also no strict regulations on prices and the tracking of sales measures from external sources. While there are strict guidelines regarding content and titles, these are easy to adhere to.

In addition, FBA storage costs are low, which allows for relatively high margins. However, we recommend good keyword research to avoid blindly fishing for customers.

3) Digital Products

In addition to books, software of all kinds sell very well on Amazon. Everything can be sold on this platform, from antivirus programs to tax filing software.

With Amazon Music and TuneCore, independent artists can release their music directly and start making money immediately.

While Amazon is not the first choice for artists who sell designs and motifs, Amazon Merch is one of the most popular sales channels for artists who want to sell their artwork.

Amazon Top Sellers Income

As an Amazon seller, your profits depend on the products, their listings, and prices. Considering this, almost half of Amazon sellers make at least $1,000 to $2,300 per month.

Final Thought

Nobody can deny that Amazon FBA is an effective way to earn extra money. However, finding products worth selling at an affordable price can take more work than it seems. If you can solve this problem, you will be successful and earn a lot of money with FBA.

You will need to spend hours each week researching and analyzing products or talking to trusted vendors to find products at reasonable prices. A good formula for success is to import products from China and sell them on Amazon, so you must know the needs of your niche market.

With Amazon FBA, you can free yourself of warehousing, sales, shipping, and customer service. How much money you can make with Amazon FBA depends on the products you buy and other factors. The average profit ranges from 10% to 20%. However, some full-time sellers have found products with profits of up to 80%.

What’s Windows 10 May 2023 Update, Version 1903, And Why You Should Upgrade?

Windows 10 May 2023 Update, version 1903, is the seventh feature update for the most popular desktop operating system. “May 2023 Update” is just the friendly marketing name that Microsoft is planning to use for this release, but it’s technically “version 1903.”

The May 2023 Update is just another update, but unlike those patches that release every month, this release includes a set of new features and improvements.

The new feature update is rolling starting May 21, 2023, and it’ll be offered as a free upgrade for devices already running Windows 10.

Microsoft will be rolling out version 1903 gradually, meaning that no every device will get the update on day one. Instead, only devices known to support the new version will get it first. Eventually, when the update has been tested a little further, and there aren’t blocking bugs, the company will continue the rollout to other computers. However, the update will not download and install automatically, the user will have to manually initiate the upgrade manually through the Windows Update settings page.

If your device is running an older version of the operating system nearing to the end of service, then Windows 10 will download and install version 1903 automatically. In the case that your computer isn’t seeing the May 2023 Update automatically, chances are that the update is currently not compatible for you. This is one of the reasons why it’s not recommended to force a new version of Windows 10, unless you know exactly what you’re doing, and you understand the risks.

Windows 10 May 2023 Update version number

Following the same version scheme as earlier versions, this new release will be known as “Windows 10 version 1903,” which indicates the year and month of the completion of the development, not the release date.

Windows 10 May 2023 Update installation

When the “May 2023 Update” arrives, and it’s compatible for your device, you’ll receive a notification from Windows Update to install it as a regular update (but it’ll take longer to install because a complete reinstallation is required).

In the case that you don’t want to wait until it becomes available automatically, it’s possible to install the new version using the Media Creation Tool and Update Assistant. You can also download the Windows 10 version 1903 ISO file if you want to take that path (when available).

Windows 10 May 2023 Update reasons to upgrade

While it’s a good idea to upgrade to the new version for its new features, you also want to install this release to get the security enhancements and improvements to make sure that your computer and files are safe and secure.

Alongside the security improvements, this new version brings a little bit of everything, including incremental changes and big new features. Perhaps the most significant changes with the May 2023 Update are Windows 10 splitting Search and Cortana into two separate features, and the addition of a new true system-wide light theme, which extends to the Start menu, taskbar, action center, and flyout menus.

Windows Sandbox is another big feature that introduces a lightweight isolated environment to test untrusted applications without affecting your device or files. Basically, it’s a tiny installation of Windows 10 of around 100MB in size, enough to install and run classic applications separate from the main installation.

In order to reduce issues while installing updates, starting with the May 2023 Update, there’s a new feature called “Reserved Storage,” which sets aside part of the system storage for updates. When a new update is available, Windows 10 will delete the files on the reserved storage automatically allowing updates to install successfully.

Additionally, it’s now possible to set up and sign in with a security key using the Windows Hello settings in the Settings app.

There’s a new feature that detects and fixes common problems on your installation of Windows 10 automatically, and this update delivers a new Emoji panel that includes symbols, such as for punctuation, currency, geometric, math, Latin, and language symbols.

You can learn more about all the new features and improvements coming this year in this guide.

Windows 10 May 2023 Update block automatic install

Although the Windows 10 May 2023 Update is meant to improve the overall experience, new releases are known to have bugs and many problems during the initial rollout.

If you want to avoid possible errors and other issues, it’s always a good idea to defer Windows 10 feature updates for at least a month or two until you know for sure the update is stable and working correctly. However, if you’re thinking on upgrading as soon as it’s available, you can refer to this guide to upgrade without problems.

How High Capacity, Top Speed Ssds Changed The Enterprise In 2023

Thanks to emerging trends like the Internet of Things (IoT), Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), data mining and edge computing, along with mandates such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), 2023 saw the evolution of solid state drive (SSD) needs from security protocols to higher capacity growth in data centers.

Because of these changes in the hard drive space, enterprises are consolidating digital information — whether in a private data center or public cloud — and enabling storage opportunities for data lakes or other repositories.

More Room for Performance Improvement

A major focus has now turned to SSDs as costs continue to drop and capacity improves through Quad Level Cell (QLC) technology, which stores four bits per cell instead of three and offers improved cell density.

Performance requirements continue to drive adoption of faster and larger SSDs. Content delivery networks (CDNs) are transitioning from 1080p video to 4K (3840×2160) to 8K (7680×4320), with the bits per color moving from eight to 12 to 16 to support high dynamic range (HDR) as well. This involves streams increasing from 6Mbit/s for 1080p to as many as 100Mbit/s for 8K HDR video. Data mining, online transaction processing, real-time systems and other new technologies require as much throughput and the lowest seek times possible.

New Products Mean New Capabilities

Samsung released a number of new products in 2023, including Samsung Enterprise SSDs like the 860 DCT, 883 DCT and new NVMe products like the 970 EVO and 970 PRO, 983 DCT and 983 ZET. These new SSDs offer higher capacities, faster response times and higher transfer rates than previous drives, while reducing costs, lowering energy usage and increasing drive lifespans.

As the year progressed, product shortages and price increases turned to sufficient supplies of hardware and price declines. Samsung launched the new Samsung Data Center series to unlock new growth opportunities in servers and storage systems. Also launched was the QLC product, which will transform the industry by delivering affordable SSDs to the market that offer a real apples-to-apples competitor to hard disk drives. The continuing shift from SATA to NVMe/PCIe for high performance drives also offers substantial performance increases for gaming and data storage systems.

Long-Term Storage Dilemmas Solved by New Partnerships

For Samsung Data Center products, the year included some notable partnerships:
