What is Tuple Matching in Python?

Tuple Matching in Python is a method of grouping the tuples by matching the second element in the tuples. It is achieved by using a dictionary by checking the second element in each tuple in python programming. However, we can make new tuples by taking portions of existing tuples.

Tuple Syntax

Tup = ('Jan','feb','march')

To write an empty tuple, you need to write as two parentheses containing nothing-

tup1 = ();

For writing tuple for a single value, you need to include a comma, even though there is a single value. Also at the end you need to write semicolon as shown below.

Tup1 = (50,);

Tuple indices begin at 0, and they can be concatenated, sliced and so on.

Tuple Assignment

Python has tuple assignment feature which enables you to assign more than one variable at a time. In here, we have assigned tuple 1 with the persons information like name, surname, birth year, etc. and another tuple 2 with the values in it like number (1,2,3,….,7).

For Example,

(name, surname, birth year, favorite movie and year, profession, birthplace) = Robert

Packing and Unpacking

In packing, we place value into a new tuple while in unpacking we extract those values back into variables.

Comparing tuples

A comparison operator in Python can work with tuples.

It starts with comparing the first element from each of the tuples

Using tuples as keys in dictionaries

Since tuples are hashable, and list is not, we must use tuple as the key if we need to create a composite key to use in a dictionary.

Example: We would come across a composite key if we need to create a telephone directory that maps, first-name, last-name, pairs of telephone numbers, etc. Assuming that we have declared the variables as last and first number, we could write a dictionary assignment statement as shown below:

directory[last,first] = number

Inside the brackets, the expression is a tuple. We could use tuple assignment in a for loop to navigate this dictionary.

for last, first in directory: print first, last, directory[last, first]

This loop navigates the keys in the directory, which are tuples. It assigns the elements of each tuple to last and first and then prints the name and corresponding telephone number.

Dictionary can return the list of tuples by calling items, where each tuple is a key value pair.

To fetch specific sets of sub-elements from tuple or list, we use this unique function called slicing. Slicing is not only applicable to tuple but also for array and list.

Advantages of tuple over list

Iterating through tuple is faster than with list, since tuples are immutable.

Tuples that consist of immutable elements can be used as key for dictionary, which is not possible with list

If you have data that is immutable, implementing it as tuple will guarantee that it remains write-protected

Python Program To Find The Largest Element In A Tuple

One of the most common problems in computer science is the problem of searching. To check whether a given element exists in a variable is important and sometimes the item we must search for, can be the maximum, minimum, most frequent etc. in this article we will see how we can find the largest element in a tuple.

We know that tuple is a pre-defined datatype that stores heterogenous data. It is sort of a container that holds several items inside it.

We can define a tuple in python using the round brackets enclosing the data that we wish to store −

Var = (1, ‘a’, 3.7)

We can find the maximum element of a tuple in different ways. We will discuss the naïve way as well as the pythonic way to search for the maximum element.

Using For Loop

As a tuple is basically an iterable we can use the iterative statements of python to go through all the elements of the tuple one by one. That way we can determine the largest by comparing all the values.

We will use a variable to hold the greatest value at a given point in time. When the loop has gone over all the elements the variable will hold the largest element. Let us look at the algorithm for the program.


Lets look at the algorithm for the above method −

Step 1 – Create a tuple

Step 2 – Create a variable to store the max element and store the first value of the tuple in it.

Step 3 – Start iterating over the elements using for loop from the second element onwards

Step 4 – Check whether the current value is greater than the max variable

Step 5 – if yes, then update the max variable and set its value to the current variable

Step 6 – if no, then continue to the next element

Step 7 – When the program gets out of the loop, print the max element

In this method we first take the 1st element as the maximum element then we iterate over the list and compare the current element with the current maximum element and if the current element is greater than the current maximum element we update the current maximum element. After the iteration we will print the maximum element.

Using the sorted() method

The sorted() function returns a sorted list of the specified iterable object.

We can always choose from the vast set of libraries and built-in methods to easily solve most of the common problems in python.

This approach discusses the use of the built-in python function sorted(). This takes in an iterable as a parameter and returns a sorted list of its elements.

We will use this function to sort the elements of the tuple in ascending order and access the last element from the resulting list. That last element will be the maximum element of the tuple.


Step 1 – Create a tuple

Step 2 – Use the sorted function with the tuple as an argument

Step 3 – Access the last element using negative indexing and store it in a new variable

Step 4 – Print the newly created variable


Following example sorts the array using the sorted() method. In this example we are trying to sort the whole list and then print the last element of this sorted array to get the largest element.

Python also provides a method named max() to find the greatest element from the list, tuple, etc.

As we discussed in the above approach there are several useful methods that are built-in python and can be used to solve mostly all the common problems.

It takes in an iterable, or two or more number type objects as input argument and returns the maximum out of all the elements in the iterable.


The syntax for using the max method is as follows.

max(iterable, *, key=None) max(iterable, *, default, key=None) max(arg1, arg2, *args, key=None)

Where, a and b are values from which you need to find the maximum element.

In this example we used the max function of python to get the maximum element of the whole list at once.

NFTs are all the rage, and for good reason too. But while the idea may seem new and radical to many, gamers have been dealing with similar concepts for ages in the form of exclusive, rare, and one-of-a-kind items. So, what is the difference between an NFT and, say, a unique weapon skin in CS: GO? Let’s figure that out.

Defining NFTs

Non-fungible token (NFT) is a direct, but obscure, term that’s sure to send your head spinning. But it’s a very simple idea. “Fungibility” is a simple concept referring to many items we use every day, to explain that you can exchange an item for exactly the same thing. For example, if you were to trade $1 for $1 you would, without becoming all philosophical, have exactly the same thing. But a non-fungible object means that there is no other item that is the same; the item is unique and cannot be directly replaced. This is most easily understood in the art, as there can only ever be one original painting like the Mona Lisa.

Examples are rampant: from buying the works of now-world-renowned digital artist Beeple, the Nyan cat gif, or even a tweet off twitter. To put it bluntly, an NFT can be anything as long as it’s unique.

The way NFTs stay secure and actually prove ownership is that they are stored on the blockchain, providing a public ledger that proves ownership and any transactions that have been undertaken with the asset in question.

This means that NFTs are essentially proof of ownership of a digital, non-fungible asset—and that can be pretty much anything.

Virtual goods and games

While blockchain NFTs are relatively new, similar things have been around in games for ages. Exclusive skins in CS: GO, Path of Exile alternative art items, certain Fortnite outfits, Runescape Party hats and much more are pretty similar to NFTs.

However, there is one clear difference: these game-based items are not found on the blockchain but are instead found on gaming servers themselves. This drops their inherent value all the way down to the big old zero; given that the creators of the game could duplicate, delete, move or remove any of these items at will.

Thus, the value of these virtual goods comes from price tags placed on them either by the game-makers themselves or by players in online marketplaces. That is to say: the value is as much as anyone will pay for it. This can of course lead to purchases such as CS: GO’s infamous Howl skin which sold for $130,000 due to a number of reasons, the prime one being that it had a very low float value (which corresponds to the quality of the skin).

Of course, this isn’t too dissimilar from NFTs, as many NFTs also thrive purely on perceived value—but the difference lies in the blockchain which provides the public ledger that proves ownership, value, and the ability to make transactions. 

Existing on the blockchain also means that these items have inherent value outside of any given system. For example, if you were to put your favorite CS: GO gun skin onto the blockchain you would theoretically be able to remove it from the CS: GO context and it would retain its value. Obviously, this isn’t possible due to how it’s all currently set up, limiting CS: GO skins to remain within Valve’s ecosystem.

That said, there are certain places where you can buy and trade skins, such as Eldorado. gg. Their players can buy and sell CS: GO skins, Runescape party hats, and much more with cryptocurrency. But, while the items themselves are outside of the blockchain, they remain inherently different from NFTs.

Will gaming move towards NFTs?

According to a survey by digital media consulting firm Vorhaus Advisors, 63% of gamers say that they would spend more on virtual goods if they had real-world value and could be traded and sold for that real-world value.

On one level this is obvious: players would spend more if they are not “spending” their money but “investing” it in the digital goods which could then be sold on to make back the money. Or, in certain cases, even make a profit.

So, this all sounds great: gaming companies will just jump on board, right?

Well, there will be a tonne of teething issues before NFTs find a real home in gaming. 

First of all, selling NFTs in-game would inherently be taking away some profits from game developers. Not only would they now have to ensure certain items have inherent value, but they would be allowing players to sell their items on the Blockchain and away from in-game marketplaces. This means that those cuts that developers charge for transactions would be going elsewhere, resulting in a huge dip in profits.

Secondly, as NFTs work on blockchain, they require transactions to be verified. This incurs gas fees which would need to be paid to the miners facilitating the proof-of-work on the blockchain—hemorrhaging more money to outside sources.

At least immediately, implicating NFTs seems like a challenge for developers. But if the craze continues, we can be fairly sure that NFTs will come to gaming.

So, while NFTs and rare in-game items are quite different, it seems like we’ll probably be stuck with just the latter for now—leaving the control with developers. However, as DeFi becomes more and more mainstream, it’s fair to say that there’s a good chance we will see gaming utilizing the blockchain in the years to come.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat—few apps get to reach the number of users and level of recognition that these social media pioneers have among the general population. One of the few to break through, however, is TikTok, the video social media platform now loved by millions of users.

While TikTok is a new and fun platform, it certainly has its problems. Concerns about potential links to the Chinese government, as well as a number of privacy and safety concerns on the platform, are enough for some users to want to jump ship. If you’re thinking about how to delete a TikTok account, here’s what you’ll need to know.

Why Should You Delete TikTok?

TikTok might be a favorite of Gen Z, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely free of problems. There are a number of reasons why you may wish to delete TikTok or, at the very least, beef up your security settings.

One of the biggest concerns is over privacy, especially over how much data TikTok records about its users. When you sign up, TikTok requires your email address, phone number, and (potentially) a link to other social media accounts. It also requires app permissions for user location, access to your contacts, and more.

If you’re worried about your online privacy, these permissions are frightening. There are also known security issues, with reported flaws in 2023 that would allow hackers to gain complete control over a TikTok account.

Some of these concerns (especially about privacy) aren’t new to social media, with Facebook users seeing similar issues. Uninstalling the TikTok App

Before you delete your account entirely, there is another option. Uninstalling TikTok won’t stop your account from existing, but it can give you time to consider your options and think about whether you want to use TikTok in the future.

For users that use TikTok without an account, deleting the app will ensure that TikTok can’t record any other additional information about you, including information about your device or location.

Android users can remove the TikTok app by selecting and holding the app icon in their app drawer, then selecting the Uninstall option. Alternatively, search for TikTok in the Google Play Store, then select the Uninstall option.

For iPhone and iPad users, removing the TikTok app is the same as any other app removal. To do this, select and hold the TikTok icon on their home screen, then select the Delete App option from the pop-up menu.

Deleting a TikTok Account on Mobile Devices

If you don’t have your own TikTok videos saved locally, you may want to download them first.

To delete your TikTok account, open the app on your device and make sure you’re signed in. Using the menu bar at the bottom, tap the Me option.

In your TikTok profile menu, tap the three-dots menu icon in the top-right corner. 

In the Settings and privacy menu, tap the Manage account option.

You can change various account settings, including your saved email address and password, in the Manage account menu. To delete your account, however, tap the Delete account option.

TikTok will alert you that deleting your account will result in your profile being wiped and any saved or uploaded videos being removed. Tap Continue to proceed with the deletion.

Once you’ve confirmed your account deletion, you’ll have a 30 day grace period. If you want to reverse the deletion, sign back in using your account details—TikTok will restore your account. However, after 30 days, the deletion is irreversible, and you’ll need to create a new TikTok account to use the platform again.

Deleting a TikTok Account on PC or Mac

Unfortunately, there isn’t an official method for deleting your TikTok account on a PC or Mac. While you can use TikTok on a PC, the browser-based version of the platform is quite basic and doesn’t offer you the ability to control your account or change any settings (including deleting your account).

One option is to potentially use an Android emulator on your PC. Emulators simulate the hardware of an Android PC, allowing you to use certain apps like TikTok on your PC without a device. However, some apps do detect emulators and block them from working to avoid spam and abuse issues.

The best (and only official) way to delete your account is via the TikTok app on a mobile device, but if you’re struggling, you may be able to request deletion by contacting TikTok directly.

Reporting a Hacked TikTok Account

The steps above assume that you have control over your TikTok account to delete it. However, if your account is compromised and you’re trying to delete it without full control, you’ll need to regain control or get in touch with TikTok’s support team.

There are a few ways to do this. If you’re still signed in to your account in the TikTok app, you can change your password (logging out other users) by selecting Me in the app menu. From your user profile, select the three-dots menu icon.

In the Settings and privacy menu, tap Manage account.

In the Manage account menu, update your password and other settings to ensure you have control over your account. This will log other devices (including hackers) out of your account.

Once your account is secure, return to the Setting and privacy menu and follow the steps above to delete your account. If you’re having trouble doing this (or if you can’t change your account email, password, or other settings), but you’re still signed in, select the Report a problem option in the Settings and privacy menu.

In the Feedback and help menu, select the Create Ticket icon in the top-right corner.

In the Your support tickets menu, explain your problem in the box provided, explaining that you’ve lost control over your account and that you’d like access to be restored (or for your account to be deleted). 

For users who can’t use the TikTok app at all (because a hacker has removed their access), you can report the problem and request account deletion via TikTok’s legal feedback page.
