Suggested March 2024 These Are The 7 Problems You Need To Solve Before Offshoring Software Development
The United States presents significant challenges in software development. There is currently a shortage of software developers. This means that it’s not likely you will be able to find the right team to finish your project.
You are probably also dealing with rising costs for onshore software development.
There is also the promise of low code and no-code development.
What about offshoring?
Offshoring is the process of outsourcing your software development work to people in other countries. This can help you save money and get started faster, among other benefits. Before you decide to try this method, it is important to first understand the problems and solutions.Potential Offshoring Issues
These are the most common issues that offshoring can cause and you will need to solve them.
The Language Barrier. This is an obvious problem people overlook. You won’t be able to create software for your company if none of your software developers can speak English. For most businesses, this means that you will need to find a country with a reputation for speaking English well. However, it can also increase the cost of hiring software developers. The Netherlands, for example, is the most English-speaking country in the world. However, you won’t be able to save much money by outsourcing there. You can find the right balance between a country that speaks English well and a country that is within your budget.
Time Zone and Scheduling Discrepancies. Timezones and scheduling can also cause problems. Your software developers working in different parts of the world will be 12 hours from you. This can make it difficult, or impossible, to maintain a dialogue with them during the day. Many offshoring destinations employ workers who are used to American work hours. You can compromise by allocating certain hours during the day to both foreign and domestic team members if you are unable to find one.
Salary and Wages. Offshoring software development can help you save money on your salary and your wages. However, you will also face new challenges. Do you know how to exchange your currency with theirs? Are you able to make payments in their currency? Do you have to clear any legal or financial hurdles to pay them? You have many technological options to overcome this obstacle, including banks that are experts in offshore assistance.
Code Quality. The next step is to consider code quality. Many people associate offshoring with having lower quality code. This could be due to a lack of education, different work cultures, or other factors that can hinder efficiency. This potential problem can be avoided by researching every company and every developer that you meet when searching for an offshoring partner. You can find examples of past coding and assess its quality.
Cultural Barriers. What’s the best way to manage a team that’s more relaxed and easygoing if you’re used to people who are active, ambitious, and driven? How can you get back from a social faux pas you made without realizing it? Cultural dissonance can lead to many problems. It is possible to overcome it with some research, mutual understanding, and the willingness to compromise.
Regulations and Laws. Different countries have different employment regulations. While some laws are very strict and others more flexible, almost all employment laws contain hidden complications that can make life difficult for those who aren’t prepared.
Competition. The best countries for offshore work have become so popular that there is a new problem. As more people flock to hot destinations, they become more expensive and less accessible. You need to stay ahead of the curve. The High Points
I have discussed several ways you can reduce or eliminate potential problems with offshoring. These problems, and many others, can be solved by following a few high-level guidelines:
Remain Open. Keep your eyes open, especially during the initial stages of your search. This means being open-minded, researching different options, shopping around, and being open to learning about other organizational cultures and work approaches. You will have more opportunities to successfully outsource your software development.
Do Your Research. Don’t rely on your gut instincts. Be skeptical of your first experience. Objective research is essential to back up your decisions and support your ideas. You should quantify as much information as possible, consider multiple sources, and challenge your assumptions by proving yourself wrong. You will be glad you did.
While outsourcing software development may not be the best move for every company, it might be the right thing to do if you are looking for high-quality software at a lower cost than hiring locally. These are the key issues to keep in mind. Before you move forward, make sure that you have a plan.

A bloat-free, lean Android skin
Unlike a lot of Android fanboys, I am not fond of vanilla Android. I find it too anemic for my own personal taste. I like when companies add to the Android experience by including interesting features, designs, and additional details that make Android a pleasure to use on a day-to-day basis.
Some companies take this way too far, however. A lot of Android skins I’ve used are so overblown with proprietary features and bloatware apps that you can almost feel the phone get slower as you navigate around, while some others have design tweaks that make no sense, are ugly, or both. Creating an Android skin is kind of like a delicate art.
Fast charging support
Starting in late 2023, it seemed everyone became desperate for wireless charging. Myself, I’ve never seen any need for wireless charging, as I only charge my phone in two places consistently: on my bedside table when I go to sleep and in my car. Putting a wireless charging pad in my car would be nonsensical, and I don’t mind taking the extra two seconds to plug my phone in before I go to sleep.
What is USB Type-C? Or is it USB C?
Luckily, I only have to worry about one company releasing devices with a non-standard proprietary port (*cough* Apple Lightning *cough*), so it’s easy enough to avoid that. But until Micro-USB is absolutely 100 percent dead in the ground, I’ll always double-check to make sure a new device has a USB-C port so I can be assured I’ll get those fast charging speeds as well as fast data-transfer speeds.
Plus, I have some USB-C dongles I’d rather not have to replace.
Are Android updates getting faster? Let’s look at the data
What’s the point of making an investment like that only to find that less than a year later the manufacturer isn’t pushing software updates (or, even worse, security patches)? That’s a bad investment.
Certain companies have proven themselves when it comes to software support, including OnePlus, Essential, Google (obviously), and even Samsung (the company’s made big strides over the past year). Meanwhile, many other companies have pretty bad update reputations, including LG, HTC, and Motorola. I absolutely keep these reputations in mind before purchasing a phone.
I love using Google Pay. Nine times out of ten, if I’m standing in a queue at a shop, I already have my phone in my hand. When I get to the register, why should I put my phone away to grab my wallet instead? Paying with the phone is so much easier.
As such, I would never buy a phone without a near field communication (NFC) chip inside to enable those contactless payments.
I must admit, I’ve never used NFC to set up a peripheral, like a router or something. However, I might do so in the future, who knows?
Whatever the case, the NFC chip is an integral part of any Android smartphone, as far as I’m concerned, if only for Google Pay alone.
How much does the RAM and storage in your phone actually cost?
Ultimately, if I felt paying $1,000 for a smartphone was a fair price for that phone, I would pay it. Unfortunately, I think the Galaxy Note 9 is overpriced, and I think the Google Pixel 3 is as well. There’s not much about either device that makes me think they should be that expensive, especially when the OnePlus 6T has everything I need for hundreds less.
In the future, there might be a phone that is very expensive but offers features that justify the price. If that happens — and it meets my other six requirements here — I’ll buy it. Just as long as the price is fair. What are yours?

Buying the right Google Pixel 7 alternative
The Google Pixel phones really excel when it comes to camera quality, a clean take on Android, software update commitments, and AI-powered features. But there are some phones that do better in some of these areas, while the Google phones also have a few gaps compared to other handsets.
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series is now the top contender in this regard, trumping the outgoing Galaxy S22 line. It might not have a clean take on Android, but you’re still getting impressive cameras, a superior commitment to updates, and some handy software features. And these phones are available in more markets, to boot. It’s also worth considering the Pixel 7a if you want a cheaper Pixel experience, particularly if the phone is on special.
For a more detailed rundown of our recommendations, see our summary below. The best Google Pixel 7 alternatives
Samsung Galaxy S23 series: Samsung’s latest flagships offer superior chipsets, great 120Hz OLED screens, and versatile cameras across the board. The One UI Android skin also remains one of the most feature-packed skins around, offering features that Google still hasn’t brought to Pixels.
Google Pixel 6 series: You can do worse than the Pixel 6 phones if you want to stay within the Pixel sphere. A capable Tensor chipset enables features like offline dictation, Magic Eraser functionality, and more. You’re also getting big batteries, plenty of system updates, and top-notch camera quality.
Apple iPhone 14 series: Apple’s newest iPhones are worth considering if you want access to an even tighter ecosystem of products and services. The standard and Plus iPhones are disappointing upgrades over the iPhones 13 series, while the Pro models get all the key upgrades.
Google Pixel 7a: Don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want a Pixel? Then the Pixel 7a is worth a look. Google took the Pixel 7 concept and made some minor cutbacks in the name of a lower price tag. But you’ve still got a capable processor and that Pixel software.
Sony Xperia 1 IV: Sony’s first 2023 flagship brings an innovative variable telephoto camera, allowing you to get native optical zoom in a smartphone. Other selling points include a 4K 120Hz OLED screen, a large battery, and plenty of enthusiast-level camera features.

List price higher than Pixel 7
That’s it for our list of the best Google Pixel 7 alternatives but there are plenty of other options out there. Check out a couple of these picks below:
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 ($999 at Amazon): Wish Google had a foldable? Well, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a solid consolation prize. Expect a pocket-friendly clamshell form factor, a 6.7-inch 120Hz folding screen, and a small secondary display for notifications and camera previews. The relatively small battery is one of the few downsides to this device.
ASUS Zenfone 9 ($599 at Amazon): The Zenfone 9 is a decent alternative if you want a more compact flagship phone, also bringing a top-notch processor, IP68 rating, 3.5mm port, and gimbal stabilization tech. It’s $100 more expensive than the Pixel 7 though, while still missing out on wireless charging and long-term software updates.
OnePlus 11 ($996 at Amazon): If you’re not a gamer, consider the newer OnePlus 11. It improves on almost every facet of the OnePlus 10T, from a more powerful camera setup to better chipset. However, we discovered that the phone throttles badly when put through our gaming tests.
There is a reason why smart people spend so much time and money to optimize their homepage.
But as Sam Ovens explains only practice makes you self confident. Having all those benefits I mentioned above is not an easy work — it needs testing and measuring.
The framework is here though. There are some persuasion elements that have stood the test of time and make money no matter on the screen or paper (these are the same elements that old school copywriters used to produce millions of dollars). Simply use these elements on your homepage the way I explain and you’ll have your perfect homepage plus all the benefits I mentioned.
Headlines are the most important copy on a homepage. They demand a special attention because they literally make the first impression in the minds of the visitors. Believe it or not we are used to looking for the big bolded statement in the middle of the page when we enter a website.
Here’s Shopify’s headline copy:
Why use a headline, you say?
Well, headlines are not a recent creation of marketing gurus. They’ve been around for a long time — and with ample reasons. In 1983, the legendary copywriter, David Ogilvy wrote:
“on the average, five times as many people read the headlines as read the body copy. It follows that unless your headline sells your product, you have wasted 90 percent of your money.
How to persuade people to buy through your headline?
There are two steps to take:1. Study the product
In order to produce a money making headline, you need to know the features and functions of the product and its competitors in the market. Try to focus on the features that make the product unique compared to its competitors.
If your product is an email marketing tool or platform, maybe its on-site retargeting features make it unique. Or maybe it’s surprisingly cheaper than other email marketing tools.
Make a list of the features that you think make your product unique or at least make it look cool to people.2. Position the product
Once you have a list of the cool and unique features of your product, it’s easier to position your product.
What’s positioning? Ogilvy’s definition of positioning is “what the product does, and who it is for”.
Here’s an example of how Ogilvy positions the Dove soaps:
He positions Dove as a creamy soap,
“Dove creams your skin while you bathe”, for women. As Ogilvy himself says about Dove’s positioning: “I could have positioned Dove as a detergent bar for men with dirty hands, but chose chose instead to position it as a toilet bar for women with dry skin. This is still working 25 years later.”
And here’s a nice example of how SEMruch positions its product as an “all-in-one marketing toolkit” for “digital marketing professionals”:
The greatest feature of their product is that it contains all the tools a professional digital marketer needs in one place. And of course it’s positioned for digital marketing professionals. The message is clear and effective.
All in all, in order to increase sales through your headlines you first need to study the product and its competitors in the market, make a list of its cool unique features, and finally position the cool or unique features as benefits for your target customers.
Here are some bonus points to consider:
You can learn alot from the way
functions. Position your product as the sum of all the benefits that will transform people from their current self to their desired self.
Don’t be afraid of texts on your homepage when it comes to positioning your product and stating its benefits and features. Although there’s much hype about people’s preference for images, videos and stuff,
found that users noticed the value proposition more quickly and spent more time on it when it had more text.
Call to actions
If you’re spending thousands of dollars on a product and a website just to prove what a genius you are, good luck! But if you’re willing to sell more of your products and fill those bank accounts, you need to get people to do something on your website.
Call to actions (CTA’s) are the buttons that ask for those money making actions.
Above: Crowdcast’s CTA buttons
Having seen hundreds of websites with different CTA’s, I managed to categorize CTA’s into six types:
More info type
(e.g. learn more, watch now, find out more, read more).
(free account, free trial, try it for free, get started, demo, get a demo).
(app, get report, report, guide, get now).
(see solutions/plans/products, compare plans).
(including let’s reach, contact us, schedule a meeting).
To make the best of these CTA’s, have the following tips in mind:
Early immature conversions = low-quality buyers
As a rule of thumb you need to avoid too much insistence on the “Buy Type” CTA’s upfront on your homepage.
You don’t want early immature customers because they tend to leave you very soon and more often.
In one of his Whiteboard Friday videos, Rand Fishkin explains that Moz customers that convert on the first, or second, or third visit to [their] website tend to leave early and often. They tend to be not longstanding, loyal customers who have low churn rates and those kinds of things. They tend to have a very high churn and low retention.”
To avoid early immature conversions, you need to make sure you educate your visitors before they buy from you. As for Moz, people normally visit their website 8 times before they sign-up for the free trial. And Rand states clearly that for them there is a strong correlation between the time spent on the website and customer loyalty.
Have more of more info type, sample type, and join type CTA’s on your homepage rather than just the buy type ones.
Have CTA’s above the fold
A study by Nielsen Norman Group in 2010 showed that the 100 pixels just above the fold in a web page were viewed 102% more than the 100 pixels below the fold. The following aggregate heatmap from the study shows the concentration of looks in 57,453 eye-tracking fixations.
Red indicates where users looked the most; yellow where they looked less. White areas got virtually no looks. The top black stripe indicates the page fold in the study; subsequent black stripes represent each additional screen after scrolling.
If you want your CTA’s to be seen, you need to have your CTA’s above the fold as well as other places.
Have multiple CTA’s
Singularity in CTA’s has its own merits. For one thing you’re directing the attention of your visitors to do only and only one action you want them to do, eliminating the distracting factors.
But there’s one problem with CTA singularity: it resonates with only one intention.
Some other visitors might be interested in downloading a report or white paper, especially if you’re a B2B business. Be it as it may, you need to include a “download type” CTA offering a white paper, webinar, e-course, etc. to attract this kind of visitors.
And occasionally, some people who are well educated about your product might visit your website with the intention to buy straight in their first visit. You don’t want to let them down, do you?
One practical conversion-related fact about Hootsuite is that it’s main CTA is well differentiated. It’s the green “start your free 30-day trial” button sitting above the fold.
There are only two ways people would trust you. One is seeing the results you can get them, the other is your past experience. When people visit your website, the best way to make them trust you is showcasing your past experience.
Social proof is just about that and it has such a strong influence:
Over 70% of Americans say they look at product reviews before making a purchase.
Nearly 63% of consumers indicate they are more likely to purchase from a site if it has product ratings and reviews.
There are basically 6 social proof types:
You could mention the detailed success story of your clients.
You could use recommendations from your happy customers.
You could feature real reviews of your products or services by trusted sources.
Social Media: Showing how many followers you have or showing their positive posts about you is a good way to gain new visitors’ trust.
You can showcase the logos of the companies you’ve worked with or the publications you’ve been featured on.
If you have worked with an impressive number of people or have achieved impressive results with them, you can show the data/numbers on your homepage.
The most accessible social proof types are trust icons and testimonials. It’s easy to include a handful of your best clients’ logos on your homepage plus they are visual and easier to understand. Here are Kissmetrics’s trust icons featuring such classy clients as Unbounce and SendGrid:
Testimonials are also a great way to showcase your past results. Sam Ovens’s consulting training website is an interesting case here. It features over 3000 video testimonials from people who have actually taken his courses.
An impressive number of testimonials in the form of videos has a strong impact.
The question is how to make social proof more authentic? Here are some ways:
Use pictures of the people who give testimonials or get featured as case studies. A s
shows that using a picture could increase people’s acceptance of a claim
Be more specific about the person giving the testimonial:
Mention the person’s name, company, role, and if possible a link to his website or twitter handle.
Feature someone your visitors know well and can relate to:
don’t just use anyone. Testimonials and case studies work better from a famous guy.
It goes without saying that
are more believable and engaging.
Avoid the general and be specific:
a good testimonial
or case study highlights a benefit, explains how the benefit solves a problem, and is specific in the achieved results.
Link to off-site reviews:
people know that you’re only featuring a handful of positive reviews on your website. If you
link to the reviews
on another website, chances are people will trust you more.
GetResponse has almost all kinds of social proof on its homepage.
One final thought
The perfect homepage is not the one with the most expensive design, nor is it the one with lots of free stuff all over it. The elements that make your homepage perfect stand the test of time and are valuable for all aesthetic preferences.
