yellowsn0w iPhone 3G baseband unlock released

After surprising iPhone 3G owners with the news that the yellowsn0w baseband unlock would, in fact, work with the latest 02.28.00 baseband (released as part of firmware 2.2), the team have now released the software itself.  The yellowsn0w app itself launches whenever the iPhone boots (together with when there is a baseband reset at any point) and, after initial install, works invisibly.

In order to use yellowsn0w to unlock the iPhone 3G, you’ll need to be running the latest firmware and then use QuickPwn on your handset.  SIMs with embedded application menus, such as those used in pre-pay contracts which add “Top up credit” style menus to the handset may cause issues, which can be fixed by removing and replacing the card at each boot.

The unlock about to be released works exclusively with baseband 02.28.00. This baseband is provided by the latest firmware update (2.2) from Apple.  You’ll need to upgrade to this release using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to activate etc. There are plenty of tutorials about this on iclarified, bigboss, and other established tutorial sites.  Because it works on 02.28.00, it is available to everyone on the planet.  This means we don’t need to unnecessarily expose holes in earlier basebands, which is an important concern.

The application is a small daemon that is launched on boot.  It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset.  You won’t notice anything about it other than that your third-party sim now works.  It’s a small program and unobtrusive.  There is no GUI (this is by design).

There are Cydia and Installer sources available, so use whichever you are comfortable using.

yellowsn0w is completely removable through Cydia, the command line, and iTunes.

There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus.  These menus are usually items such as “top up” “get credit” etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes.  Removing and reinserting the SIM once after reboot (give it about 10 secs after you see the slide to unlock widget) fixes this issue.  We’re working on a better fix.

For those of you using SIM cards without STK menus, the application has some optional arguments that will make the unlock much faster for you.  So either experiment on your own (use “yellowsn0w -h” for usage) or wait for a customization writeup.

After you install yellowsn0w via Cydia, you should return to the Cydia main menu then reboot your iPhone with the 3rd party SIM installed.  Wait for the slide to unlock screen, then wait 10 or 15 secs more.   If you don’t see your carrier name pop up, then remove your SIM, reinsert it, and wait 10 secs more.  This is the step we’ll be working on eliminating next.

The application is version 0.9.  This is considered beta software, and you use it at your own risk (you know the score).  We guarantee that it’s not perfect and will require tweaking.  Welcome to the cutting edge.  (It’s a good thing these are just temporary RAM patches!)

The application is released on a non-commerical basis.  Please do not accept pirates and scummy ripoffs of this software. We license this software for single use and in a non-commerical environment (meaning you can’t charge for it). The techniques and methods used are not to be used by third party companies.

Attacks Against 3G Mobile Networks

Mobile 3G network attacks are attacks that are specifically targeted at 3G mobile networks. 3G, or third-generation, mobile networks are the third generation of mobile communication technology and are used to provide wireless data and voice services to mobile devices. There are several types of attacks that can be launched against 3G mobile networks, including eavesdropping, man-in-the-middle attacks, denial of service (DoS) attacks, malware infections, and interference with communication signals. It’s important for mobile network operators to implement security measures to protect against these types of attacks and keep their networks secure.

Types of 3G Mobile Attack

There are several types of attacks that can be launched against mobile networks −

Eavesdropping − This type of attack involves intercepting and listening to the communication between two parties without their knowledge.

Man-in-the-middle attack − In this type of attack, an attacker intercepts the communication between two parties and poses as one of the parties, allowing them to alter the communication and potentially steal sensitive information.

Denial of service (DoS) attack − A DoS attack involves flooding a network or device with traffic, making it unavailable to legitimate users.

Malware − Malware, or malicious software, can be used to compromise the security of a mobile network and steal sensitive information.

Interference − Attackers can interfere with the communication between two parties by disrupting the signals used to transmit data.

Rogue base stations − An attacker can set up a fake base station to intercept communication between mobile devices and the legitimate network.

SMS spoofing − Attackers can send text messages from a fake or spoofed sender, potentially tricking users into divulging sensitive information or downloading malware.

Location tracking − An attacker can track a mobile device’s location by accessing the location data transmitted by the device.

It’s important for mobile network operators to implement security measures to protect against these types of attacks and keep their networks secure.

How to secure Mobile 3G network traffic

There are several measures that can be taken to secure 3G mobile network traffic −

Encryption − Encrypting the communication between devices and the network can help prevent eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle attacks.

Virtual private networks (VPNs) − VPNs can be used to secure the communication between devices and the network by creating a secure, encrypted connection.

Firewalls − Firewalls can be used to block unwanted traffic and protect against DoS attacks.

Antivirus software − Antivirus software can be used to detect and prevent malware infections on mobile devices.

Network segmentation − Segmenting the network into different sections can help prevent an attacker from gaining access to the entire network if they are able to compromise one section.

Regular software updates − Keeping software up to date can help fix known vulnerabilities and prevent attacks.

How to protect mobile data from network attacks

Here are some steps you can take to protect your mobile data from network attacks −

Use a strong, unique password for your device and don’t share it with anyone.

Enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.

Use a virtual private network (VPN) to encrypt your internet connection and secure your data when using public Wi-Fi.

Keep your device’s operating system and antivirus software up to date to fix known vulnerabilities.

Avoid accessing sensitive information on public or untrusted networks.

Don’t jailbreak or root your device, as doing so can remove important security measures.

Consider using a mobile security app to provide additional protection for your device and data.

By following these steps, you can help protect your mobile data from network attacks and keep your device and information secure.

How To Unlock Agents In Valorant?

Valorant players have to master two types of skill set to play the game optimally. The first is obviously gun skill and the 2nd one is mastering the different agents.

Agents are the core mechanics of Valorant and there are many of them in the game, with Riot releasing news one frequently.

Valorant players have to unlock agents in order to use them in games.

New players only have 5 default agents unlocked and they have to unlock the rest if they want to play them.

Unlocking agents in Valorant is pretty simple and here I will show you how to easily do it.

Remember that you can unlock all the agents in Valorant without spending anything, but you can only unlock them one at a time.

This makes it important to focus unlocking on the ones you really want to play in games. The best way to make this decision is the Practice mode.

Players have access to all the characters in the Practice mode, so you can try out the skills or move sets and decide which one suits you bets.

You can also check the meta characters used in competitive and can decide on the one you like.

Unlocking agents in Valorant is easy but a time consuming process if you want to do it without spending money.

There are 3 ways you can unlock agents in Valorant. Here I have discussed this in detail:

The easiest way to unlock Agents is reaching the leveling to 5 and the 10. Leveling to 5 and then 10 will give you 2 free agent unlocks. You can basically use them to unlock any agent you want instantly.

Leveling to 5 is very easy and 10 isn’t all that difficult. For new players, this is a good way to quickly unlock their favorite agents.

But you only get to do it twice on level 5 and 10, so you need to make up your mind on which 2 agents you want to unlock quickly using it.

This is the main way for unlocking agents on Valorant for free. What you need to do is head to the agents section and select the agent you want to unlock.

You will see a Contract option. Accept the Contract and play games.

You will get XP for playing games which will be added to the contract. At level 5 of the contract, the character will be unlocked and you will be able to use them in any game mode.

Finishing the entire contract will also unlock new skins and items connected with that agent.

Something you need to keep in mind while using contracts is you can only have one contract running at a time.

Also, you need to finish atleast level 5 of the contract before changing to another one.

The third way of unlocking new agents on Valorant is using real world money. Contract of Agents can be purchased using V-points, which is an in-game currency.

To get V-points, you need to spend real world money. Buying contracts is very efficient as long as you have the funds for it and it also helps support the developers.

If you are planning on some serious grind and still want to unlock all the characters, then this the way you need to do it.

Android Nougat For Nexus 5 Released Unofficially!

Update [October 05, 2024]: Sprint has come out with an update for its Nexus 5 with new software version M4B30X, that brings the October patch to the device.

Did we tell you that Nexus 5 will so, so definitely, get the Android Nougat update, even though that would be 100% unofficial build. Yes, that time we’re talking about CM14 ROM doing the job, which it will, but we already have an pure AOSP Nougat ROM for Nexus 5 with us, one that when installed, brings Android 7.0 update to the device right now.

Some bugs are part of the update, of course. Some serious bugs, we mean, but we’re sure these are momentarily issues with the ROM, that would go away soon as development continues as fast and furious pace. You can find the ROM here, but once again, know that it’s not a daily driver at all as of today, August 25.

Let’s talk at some more length about the whole Nexus 5 Nougat update situation.

Because Nexus 5 is more than two years old by the time Google released Nougat update — it’s actually almost three years old, you know, even though fondly remembered by all of us — the update river has all but dried up for the device, except for some occasional security oriented ones.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow was officially the last update for Nexus 5 from Google. Period.

Read: HTC Nougat update release

Yes, Nexus 5 will live on. Because Android is an open-source project, under which Google shares the code publicly with the world, developers can pull that Android 7.0 code and create a Nougat ROM all by themselves.

Which they have done, and the result is the AOSP Nougat ROM we talked about in the opening paragraphs of this article. And even the Nexus 5 CM14 is under development, along with CAF version.

Nexus 5 CM14

Even though Android Nougat came to Nexus 5 via a simple AOSP ROM first, the ROM carrying the light for long would be CM14, or CyanogenMod 14. As many other ROMs would use CM14 as base, and would bring in extra features and customization options than stock AOSP ROM.

We expect the unofficial build of Nexus 5 CM14 to arrive by the end of August, or in first week of September, and official build by September end, that should be stable enough for daily usage.

Well, Nougat for sure in all its upcoming version like Android 7.0.1 or Android 7.1. But we also fully expect from developers to give Nexus 5 a breath life with Android O updates too, via an AOSP ROM like the one that appeared today carrying Nougat update. Speaking of Android O, we think it will have one certain new feature, called the Navbar Tuner, which is also available for testing as beta release.

But with Android O, the ROM stability and fine tuning could become issue, by sheer reason of Nexus 5’s age and its old hardware. Beyond Android O, it’s hard to say how developer love Nexus 5 would get, but even if it does, there won’t be a good stable ROM enough to be used as a daily driver. But anyway, your Nexus 5 will be more of a Hall Of Fame material than your daily usage device, right?

Do let us know if you or anyone among your family members (your grandma?) and friends use Nexus 5? And how glad you will to install Nougat update for their device?

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta And Air 2 Released

Adobe have pushed their Flash Player 10.1 Beta out of the door, together with Adobe AIR 2, with the Windows version of the new Flash runtime supporting H.264 hardware acceleration.  The Mac and Linux 10.1 prereleases are yet to support that, and so far there’s no sign of a smartphone release as Adobe promised back in October; Adobe have confirmed, though, that the webOS beta for the Palm Pre and Pixi will appear sometime this year.

Probably the most significant aspect of the new Flash Player 10.1 Beta is that netbooks using NVIDIA’s Ion GPU will now be able to use that video hardware to decode H.264 content.  Previously such machines did well in terms of local HD content playback but less impressively for streaming content; now full-screen YouTube HD videos should be far more watchable.

There’s also multitouch support for compatible applications (and assuming you have multitouch-capable hardware, of course).  Both Flash Player 10.1 Beta and Adobe AIR 2 can be downloaded from Abobe Labs.

Press Release:
